“I started Ozempic last night” THREAD FOUR

Can’t believe we’re on thread 4

welcome back to previous posters, and welcome to those who are new or interested.

a few of us have been on Ozempic with a range of experiences for a few months now, so if you’re interested in how it goes in the early days, the earlier threads might be a good place to start.

I’ve been on it for about 6 months now and have lost around 20lbs. It has been effortless. I used to be ravenously hungry all the time, and now I’m not. I had very mild side effects at first (just some nausea), but none now.

most of us have referral codes for various providers, so if you are starting, do ask on the thread and someone will PM you.

I’m starting tomorrow! 😳

Did anyone else start in the 80-85kg range? How much could I expect to lose in the first three or four weeks?

Will it be very noticeable to DH that I’m ‘off’ my food?

I thought it was really obvious but my dh didn’t notice 🙄
I mean, he knew I was on a diet but wasn’t surprised I was barely eating anything. Maybe your husband is a bit more observant though.

For those that are already using Ozempic, how long after your first shot did you start to feel the effects (loss of appetite/fullness)? I have just received my first pen but wondering if what I will experience at first will be placebo effect or actual effect. 😊

I took my first dose at 10.15am it didn't work immediately but by dinner time I found a smaller than usual portion filled me up. The following morning I was woken up by indigestion and the food noise had gone. By day 3 I had full appetite suppression.

For some people though, they didn't feel any appetite suppression until they were on 0.5mg dose, and some until they were on 1mg. I'd say feeling the effects of it in week 2 and it wearing off in week 3 until they were at a therapeutic (1mg dose) were fairly normal and is expected. You may get lucky though!

Adarajames · 15/03/2023 21:34

Do any suppliers sell one pen at a time? I know will be more expensive that way, but I just can’t afford £150+ in one go? 😠

Are you getting confused with Saxenda? One pen of ozempic is £150ish.

stairgates · 15/03/2023 21:49

Has anybody any experience of using it while having IBS? Did it make symptoms worse?

Look at Juniper which is ozempic it says?

Adarajames · 15/03/2023 21:51

*looking at

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 15/03/2023 21:58

You asked if any suppliers sell one pen at a time, they all sell them one pen at a time - that is all you can buy. One ozempic pen is £150ish. You buy the 0.25pen first, then next you buy the 0.5pen theme eventually the 1mg pen. Each pen is £150 and last 4-6weeks.

Saxenda is £150 for four pens, but you inject daily - that's why I wondered if you'd got mixed up.

Adarajames · 15/03/2023 22:04

I’m very confused with it all now! 😶

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 15/03/2023 22:07

It's an expensive drug, if you cannot afford the monthly £150 - which I get, I've had to make sacrifices - could you perhaps get it prescribed when the NHS launch it? You'd need to ask your GP to refer you to weight management clinic.

ErmineAndPearls · 15/03/2023 22:32

@RainyDays8 I started 5 weeks ago at 80kg. I’ve lost 6kg in that time, but I’ve heard of people losing almost twice as much. I’m happy as long as my weight is going down.

ErmineAndPearls · 15/03/2023 22:33

Sorry, I’ve lost 6lbs, so around 3kg

What is this one then?

GLP-1 medication Semaglutide (Semaglutide)

I’m speaking to my Dr on Friday, one of the diabetes medications helps weight loss I’ve read, so hoping to talk her into it!

Just had a look to place orders at both Manual and Juniper and on both websites it is impossible to opt out of the £49 monthly coaching plan now, taking the monthly cost to £199. Is that coaching plan + additional cost simply something I have to accept?

Ozempic is a semaglutide. It's sold in pens that contain 4 doses and cost £150 each. So one pen is £150 and contains 4 doses. You can't buy the doses separately.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 16/03/2023 06:14

@Adarajames are you diabetic? If not you won't be able to get it this way yet via the NHS.

Twiglets1 · 16/03/2023 06:34

Adarajames · 15/03/2023 22:04

Basically, you will have to pay the £150 in one go and in return you will get 1 pen. The pen will last you 4-6 weeks.

Twiglets1 · 16/03/2023 06:36

Though if you are diabetic @Adarajames you may get it free on the NHS

No. Some companies like Mayfair don’t include coaching, you just buy the product (though Mayfair seem fairly expensive). Just do some research and shop around. Not everyone will need or want the coaching.

DyanDeutsch · 16/03/2023 07:50

Just a quick tip for those that intend to travel to Europe on holiday. You can get an EU prescription from an online doctor such as Mobidoctor (tell them you already take this and you want to pick some up in Europe because it's cheaper). The cost for 3 pens is 220EU which works out to be around £65 per pen (size of pen is irrelevant). The challenge would be keeping them cold but if you had a fridge and then a cool bag for the journey home you should be ok.

It's just something to think about for the future if you're planning a trip.

My first order from My Juniper is arriving today 🙌🏼 I'm all at once nervous and excited 🤣

Yea hugely worse but there are levels of tolerability.

Some people get so sick that they have to give up the treatment but others can carry it through and treat the symptoms such as increased constipation with an internal showers (google it) and other treatments. You have to try it and see xx

Mine is also arriving! When are you going to do your first dose?

Thank you @ErmineAndPearls that’s great.

So I did lots of reading last night and this is my understanding:

While using the drug, it’s imperative to use it alongside lifestyle changes. By this, they mean increasing movement and decreasing calorie input. And without these changes, the weight will simply go back on once the medication is stopped - whether that’s in months or years. I, for example, tend to lose weight on 1,600 calories, but I struggle with willpower (sugar addiction) and sticking to it. Where this drug helps is it will dampen my appetite through a hormonal response and through physically keeping my stomach full for longer. I will still have to reduce calories but this drug will make it easier to do so. I will feel less hungry and will want smaller portions at mealtimes. Is that about right?

I’m also hoping it’ll reduce my sugar cravings but that might be a miracle too far!

Me too!
I'm not going to take my first dose until probably Tuesday night though. Bit wary of side effects ruining weekend plans and I'm also working in the office Mon/Tues so would rather be at home in case I feel sick.

Have they recently changed as I got my fist pen via Manual and didn't take out the coaching plan?
