Monday weigh-in for those over 14 stone

Hello All,

I really need to work up my motivation to lose weight at the moment and although I do daily personal weigh-ins I think some accountability would really help!

Would anyone like to join me?

I'm around 16 stone at the moment so it would be great to hear from others who want to lose weight but not necessarily slim from size 10 to an 8!

@Shanners79 one if the things I find helps is to just say I'm feeling a bit crap so I will treat myself. Sit down and enjoy the one chocolate bar. Yes it's 250 calories for a double decker but "allowing" myself the treat means I'm
Less likely to binge. It's a mind game really. If I "give in" to the craving it feels like a failure so I'll just say fuck it and eat more.

It doesn't always work. But it's fine to have a bad day and start afresh.

That doesn't always work either!

But honestly if I never ate any chocolate I would fail very quickly!

Rumourhasit1 · 01/03/2023 18:27

Doing ok so far, positive is I don't think I am getting the grumpiness that I normally get when healthy eating (I'm sure my family is relieved).

Negative - my stomach has been rumbling all day... I think from the increase in veg rather than hunger.

Has got any ideas for quick dinner meals? I have been eating a lot of stir frys which I think are going to get boring quickly!

We had dinner out last night and I had a Korean BBQ chicken breast burger. It sounded amazing with kimchi and pickled cucumbers. It didn't live up to its promise - I had two bites and thought it wasn't actually worth my calories or my gut health and nutrition to eat it. Previously I would just have eaten it as I was hungry.

I just had a quick Italian salad when I got back.

I'm now in a head space where I will only eat something if its going to add proper nutrition to my body, or if it's something I really want and it will enhance my life to eat it - hence I had an amazing cream cake the other day, it was from the artisan bakery near us and it was sublime, it really made my day to eat it!

I've ben using the Zoe program and it's really made me stop and think about food and whether it will make my health and my life better if I eat something.

I really like this approach - nutrition or enhancement. I'm guilty of just eating rubbish if I can't be bothered and it doesn't do either.

I've had a good day - huge bowl of Greek yogurt with fruit and seeds which was lovely and got some chicken and veg in the oven with a jacket potato.

Hope everyone else is feeling positive

Has anyone read On Eating by Susie Orbach? I try to think about this approach often. I'm struggling to sum it up so here's some blurb...
Eating is pleasurable, eating is delicious, eating is sensual' says Susie. But for so many of us eating is associated with anguish and abstinence. From the first page this little book shows us how to think and feel differently about what we eat. So that we eat when we are hungry, eat what we want to eat to satisfy us and stop when we are full. Each page contains an easily absorbed bite-sized statement to transform eating that hurts into eating that nourishes and calms. This book isn't magic but it feels as if it is

I've not heard of that but might have a look into it.

It sounds similar to some podcasts that I listened to a while ago (after a recommendation on another thread) that I've been meaning to find again, you've just reminded me to look and they were called 'Freedom from the Diet Cycle' by Paul Wistuba. I only it listened to the first few but they seemed good so think I'll give them another listen!

imnotthatkindofmum · 02/03/2023 23:21

Had a bad day today. Actually it was all good until I started eating biscuits. Not even sure why tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

New day tomorrow!!

linziere · 04/03/2023 20:16

Really fancied a takeaway tonight but money being one issue and calories being another, we did a "fakeaway" off Pinch of Nom so it was cheaper and I feel like I've indulged my craving. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm so hoping the scales are kind to me on Monday!

Springinthecity · 04/03/2023 20:24

I have just read On Eating @themuminator

I‘m finding it kind of terrifying to follow after years of dieting.

I weighed myself this morning to “face the worst” after days of not dieting. I had actually lost a pound. I couldn’t believe it. I know a pound is nothing / fluctuations etc but compared to what I thought I would have gained by eating what I want and not following a diet is really incredible to me.

I think the principles in On Eating have stuck in my mind. Really thinking about what I'm eating, does it give me joy, and trying to stop eating the moment I'm full or the food doesn't satisfy me any longer.

Maybe something is sticking if you haven't really dieted for days yet you've still lost?! That's great news.

TinyChoices · 06/03/2023 06:51

I've lost weight but only as a result of a few small tweaks - especially as I was away at the weekend. I certainly won't continue to lose if I don't start making more changes this week...still can't complain and I'm glad I've started WI again.

1 6/3/23: 16 st 9.0 lbs/233.0 lbs/105.7 kg/39.1 kg/m2 (1.6 lb/0.7 kg loss)
0 27/2/23: 16 st 10.6 lbs/234.6 lbs/106.4 kg/39.6 kg/m2

linziere · 06/03/2023 08:31

27th Feb @ 17st 3lbs
6th March @ 17st 1lbs

Happy with that but hopefully next week, I'll be below 17st!

grosslyunfair · 06/03/2023 08:37

14st 4lbs last week
14st 3lbs this week

Bit disappointed but also know I've had more slips and been less active this week. As a pp said I need to do more than token tweaks to start shifting more.

Rumourhasit1 · 06/03/2023 08:41

27/02 249.4 lb
06/03 246

Food wise I have done ok 95% of the time. On the one meal I didn't stick to the plan - it wasn't worth the calories.

Increased exercise

However I do like a glass of wine / g&t in the evening and have had something 4 days. Aiming to cut this down to 3 days this week.

WelshNerd · 06/03/2023 08:45

17lb 2 - 1lb off.

Not sure how I managed that tbh with the week I've had. Another busy week this week so likely no gym and quick food..

ChunkaMunkaBoomBoom · 06/03/2023 08:50

well, I kinda lost all track for various reasons so despite being quite active, am the same as last week! 254. Not the end of the world, today's a new day.

forgotname · 06/03/2023 09:01

06/03/23 106.6kg

27/03/23 107.7kg

Moving in the right direction 🙏🏾 wasn't 100% clean but i tried

imnotthatkindofmum · 06/03/2023 09:11

I've found my people! Loving that most people haven't been 100% and happy with small weight losses. There's nothing more demotivating when you've only lost 1lb and everyone else is perfect and losing loads in the first week. It takes me time to get into a diet and I have lots of recent bad habits to break. The first being buying snacks "for the kids" then eating them all 🤦🏽‍♀️ they don't even need them!

Anyway I lost 1lb

First weigh in 15st 12lb
Week 1 15st 11lb

Onwards!

grosslyunfair · 06/03/2023 09:51

@imnotthatkindofmum I'm trying to take the view that it's a marathon not a sprint! It took me years to get to this weight and I'll have to change lots of small things to get out of it. So I'm aiming to improve one thing each week and just be generally more aware. I think I have more chance of getting it off and keeping it off if I try and build habits one step at a time than doing my usual starve for a month, drop a lot, have a bad few days and give up and put it all back on again!

I like the accountability of a weekly weigh in. I'm a daily weigher so I see how it fluctuates through time but having a set point is helpful to see progress.

Ambertonix · 06/03/2023 10:06

14st 3lbs this morning down 4lbs from last week but im not expecting that every week. No taste or smell has meant that food just hasnt interested me this week but it is beginning to come back now so i need to be careful. Happy with that for now though.

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 06/03/2023 10:32

I've also bought the Susie Orbach book. Lost a pound this week so now at 14 stone 9. I've not done as much exercise as I should so pretty happy with that

themuminator · 06/03/2023 10:37

Well done everyone. I totally agree that it's nice to be among a group of supportive people and to take this seriously but gently for the long run.

I'm 1.5 ish down from last Monday. I'm happy with that. It was 2, but a weekend blip added half a pound back on again!

Gym induction today 😬

Onwards 💪

Rosesandstars · 06/03/2023 15:23

Well done everyone!!

I'm down almost 2lbs from 16st 2. It was my birthday this weekend and we have two cakes in the house so I'm happy with that! But the cake is calling and my faulty logic is 'Oh, it's a whole week until my next official weigh-in, might as well indulge!'- I'm going to have to ignore the binge gremlin!

@linziere , which fake away did you cook?

OP posts:
linziere · 06/03/2023 15:50

@Rosesandstars it sounds boring but it tasted amazing - it was a mushroom and broccoli stir fry. It tasted just like we'd ordered a Chinese takeaway. If that doesn't float your boat for a birthday tea, there are loads of fakeaway recipes on Pinch of Nom - their salt and pepper chips are lovely. Deffo save room in your calorie budget for a bit of cake though!!

SeaweedShowerGel · 06/03/2023 16:19

Well done on all those losses.

I'm logging my weight even though I have weighed in today heavier than last week. Reasons - essentially had 1 decent day and then rest of week just back to the usual - not sticking to my fasting regime, made puddings three times this week and have eaten too much white carbs, not slept well for about 5 days due to stress, haven't done any exercise, also got raging PMT and water retention.

This week, I plan to stick to 18/6 and do my 6 miles walking each day.

Start: 15st 3
Current: 15st 4.8

freshstart49 · 06/03/2023 16:20

Iv done it again yoyoyoyo a weekend of fun 🤦‍♀️ but I recognise the yo-yo now !
