"I Started Ozempic Last Night" THREAD THREE

1000 replies

Athena51 · 16/02/2023 08:44

Starting a new thread as we are dangerously close to finishing thread two. So great to have this supportive community to share our experiences of taking Ozempic for weightloss.

"Old-timers" and new starters all welcome!

I don’t think @Cherryonthetop2019 was meaning to be judgemental or critical of other users. I think maybe the tone didn’t land quite right and that’s why it came across as such. (I don’t know her and have never come across her some have no reason to defend her before anyone starts thinking we are best buds!)

I think it is hard when you are taking Ozempic under careful medical monitoring because you worry that people are ordering it off the internet; (some of them) not understanding how it works in the body and about GLP-1 and it’s receptors. Other threads on here see it as a ‘golden ticket’ to weight loss which it isn’t because if you don’t have a problem with GLP-1 in the first place then you don’t need it and it will be just extra GLP-1 mimicked that your receptors can’t take it. Thing is, many people who have tried many times to loose weight do in fact have a problem with GLP-1. That said, people are all grown adults and allowed to consent to their own medical treatment and it’s their choice whether to read up on it or not so I can’t personally get too upset about it. Plus it’s not really any of my business.

I wish everyone, regardless of where you are sourcing your meds, a safe, happy, healthy journey.

@Athena51 what an achievement! I do feel it has given me mental space/leg up to get my nutrition in order. Im no longer craving unhealthy food and am making better food choices. Hope it works out for me as it has for you. I need to lose 3 stone to be bang in the middle of normal bmi. Not looking to be supermodel thin just healthy enough to enter my 40s and so on. Currently almost 37 yo.

@Twiglets1 it is so nice to finally sit and watch some tele without thinking about raiding the cupboards for crisps and choc late at night. Sometimes even a second helping of dinner!!

Mumsdaword1 · 25/02/2023 19:06

@ILostMyself sorry i had replied but didnt tag you, it is there somwhere. My first time actually posting. Sounds like we are having a similar experience. Hope the cinema trip goes well. I think popcorn is high in fibre?😁

I'm usually one for robust debate but I think this topic (or at least this thread) is not one for that! It's a really difficult issue for many and taking this drug (at great expense too!) is, as people have said, often the last resort! I'd already accepted being obese as I didn't want to feel bad about myself forever, but at the back of my mind were struggling to fit in size 14 jeans as a small woman, approaching 50, menopause, heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver, trying to stay healthy/alive for my kids etc etc etc. So no judgment or discouragement needed here, thanks!

Oops ... I had popcorn at the cinema today, just didn't want anything else. Only managed half the usual amount.

Down another couple of pounds this week for a total of 18.2lbs lost in 8 weeks. Delighted!

Had some digestive issues this week going up to the 1mg dose - constipation, took a ‘mild’ laxative which I must have been very sensitive to as it had quite dramatic effects! 😬Had to take immodium to balance things back out.

concentrating on getting more fibre from natural sources now so I don’t have to ever use a laxative again!

Agree- this is such a nice supportive thread, not the place to debate the morality of using medication to help manage/treat obesity.

That's amazing well done. Sorry to hear about the side effects of the higher dose though!

themuminator · 25/02/2023 23:19

End of day two for me. I've kept my calories light, under 1400 both days. I think I'm feeling some mild effects... I've been able to stay away from the sweet things. Maybe just psychosomatic.

Day 3 will be the test, it's often where I start 'cheating' in a diet. I'm feeling good though and glad to be in this generally supportive place!

I’m pretty disheartened by Cheryl’s post too. It’s worrying to hear that the appetite suppression may not last. It’s given me breathing space to actually deal with the reasons I emotionally eat.

I've been taking it for a year and I still have strong appetite suppression. Not as much as at first but still strong enough to enable me to easily stick to a good calorie deficit. I haven't gone above 1mg either (I split doses and take 0.5 every 4 days). Someone's negative view is not necessarily the truth for everybody.

I think it’s the case that no diet is ever going to suppress appetite forever but what the Ozempic “diet” can do is reset our unhealthy habits, give us a much needed break from the food chatter and shrink our stomachs - the rest will be down to us when we stop taking it. If you are reflecting on the reasons you emotionally eat then that is a big step forward & more likely to change your relationship with food long term than simply counting calories etc.

Inkpotlover · 26/02/2023 07:02

As someone reading this thread from the sidelines while debating whether to start Ozempic and also having genuine concerns about the points Cheryl has raised, I'm not sure her comment was out of order, just blunt in its delivery. Another thread was started a few weeks ago to talk through those concerns but regular posters on this thread jumped on to protest/argue the other side, so I guess that's why people assume they can also counterpoint on this thread. Maybe the answer is to let others have their debate separately if you want the same for yours?

I started on Friday morning and both Friday night and Saturday I have been EXHAUSTED.

I'm hoping I have a big rather than this being the result of the injection.

Otherwise no other side of effect apart from very slight nausea in the evenings (which helps not want any evening snacks)

Exhaustion is a common side effect that several people have commented on. I assume it’s temporary but I personally was struggling to stay awake until 9pm (mind you I do also wake up early about 5am so it’s a vicious cycle)

OneAndDon3 · 26/02/2023 07:52

I found the exhaustion an absolute bastard for the first week or so. Then it started to pass.

Myfirstbornisacollie · 26/02/2023 08:21

Hi 👋
I think I may have posted on a previous thread months ago but need to start increasing motivation!
I started at BMI 30 last July and have lost 2 stone steadily dropping from a size 16 to a 12 (fairly tall)
A lot of my overeating was emotional, life stress and ozempic has been amazing for regulating my approach to reducing portion size and stopping snacking. I haven’t really made a conscious effort to change my diet as it was pretty good, quantity had always been my downfall. I think I need to start looking at my diet and reducing carbs increasing protein now to push for the last bit of loss and start exercising more to tone although I’m restricted due to chronic back issues
I don’t want to lose much more as being mid 40’s and peri- meno don’t want to swap chubby for wrinkly. Friends and colleagues have started saying’ you don’t want to lose more do you??’ It’s hard to know if some are being genuine or a bit envious 🫣
ive been at 1mg for 6 months so I’ve just ordered to try 1.5mg, I tend to inject every 10 days or so rather than weekly as the effects last
anyway enough waffle, good vibes to all!

Thank you, that’s reassuring. I’m hoping with wegovy on the horizon that might help too. I think the appetite suppression has just given me so much head space to address my over eating. I’ve shared elsewhere so I’ll share here that I’m also an alcoholic, I’ll be three years sober in April. So when I stopped drinking it seems like I replaced it with food, my “treat” was food and oh boy did I treat myself often! I would tell myself it was ok to eat whatever I wanted so long as I wasn’t drinking and that was true in the first few months of recovery but not three years on! I did really well from March 2022, I lost a lot of weight on my own but over Christmas I completely fell off the wagon and really struggled to get back on. I (like most people probably) always get a bit low after Christmas and I HATE January/February when it’s dark and cold and no one has any money! So I kept eating to cheer myself up. My two biggest binge eating triggers are boredom/loneliness and depression. Ozempic has silenced that food chatter and allowed me to deal with those, I’ve taken on an extra day at work and I’m going for walks. I’ve also restarted my cross stitching hobby! I’m just really grateful to be able to try something to help get this last 2.5st off AND help me address my emotional eating. I’m

Prettybubblesintheair · 26/02/2023 08:36

Sorry just to clarify I fell off the healthy eating wagon, not the sobriety one!

Thank you for sharing your experience. That sounds so positive. I agree that size 12 is a good healthy size to be. I think people are mainly genuine when they comment on a weight loss being “enough” though no doubt some are a bit jealous also. Keep up the good work 😀

You are amazing to have addressed your issues so well. To have given up drinking and now be working on your emotional reliance on food (shared with many including myself). Be kind to yourself, January & February are indeed the hardest months but Spring is just around the corner 😀

Lndnmummy · 26/02/2023 09:13

@Prettybubblesintheair congratulations on your wonderful achievements! So happy for you! I am speaking to a psychiatrist at the moment who specialise in eating disorders/addictions and she told me that food and alcohol addictions are often interlinked. What you are achieving is amazing! Keep going!

For anyone disheartened by the previous poster on this thread I would say try to not lose heart. I wouls have loved to get this medication on the nhs but not all of us will be able to. I am sure my private presciber has prepared me as well as her nhs one.

I am finally feeling better today after 7 days of hell. I will hold off another dose for a couple of more days and go back down to 0.5ml and see how I go.
