The Last Diet - anyone tried it?

Peae · 31/01/2023 19:37

I can't even remember why I bought this, I've read so many "not-a-diet", "no-more-dieting" books. But I'm surprised to say that I'm finding it really, really good. Has anyone else tried it?

(It's The Last Diet by Shahroo Izadi and I'm listening to it on Audible).

So happy it's working well for you Peae

I have listened to her on several podcasts & one thing really resonated - she said "if you would put ice /lemon in your guest's water why don't you do that for yourself?"

Ice & nice glasses & a tomato salad (rathe than just tomatoes) with meals has been the result so far - gutted the library doesn't have the book but I'm definitely going to buy it.

Peae · 24/06/2023 19:40

I’m definitely gone through a rough patch. Work stress combined with some time off means I’ve made all sorts of bad decision-making. But I’ve finally spotted the self-sabotage and I’m working through the book again.

So, no weight loss successes to report, but reflecting on the beginning of the year’s responses I’ve made some big improvements in terms of what I eat.

Rereading the book, I realise I have let the self-compassion slip a lot.

Onwards & upwards with compassion then Peae 💐

I have the book now, actually I've had it for several days but just couldn't bring myself to even open the package until today🤦🏻‍♀️ no idea what that was/is about... (the only thing I could think is maybe it feels like the very last chance??)

Especially weird as any book usually has be ripping the packaging off with glee!
Anyway planning to read /work through slowly

hope works gets less stressful

NatashaKayC · 25/06/2023 14:44

I’m taking her live class this upcoming wednesday. took the other book’s class yesterday.

Is this her "masterclass"?

I'd be very interested to hear how you feel it compares to reading the book if you'd be kind enough to comment after.

Openmouthinsertfood · 25/06/2023 21:08

Ok, got to page 2, and have just ordered the book! :) It arrives tomorrow so I should hopefully start reading it tomorrow night.

NatashaKayC · 26/06/2023 18:47

it is 3 straight hours of her guiding you to actually do (or at least start) putting on paper the steps/maps. As she explains in real time why each is important and what it is intended to do.

NatashaKayC · 26/06/2023 18:49

Doing the Last Diet Masterclass tomorrow.
Got the books and the audio books. Determined to somehow get to it.

I downloaded the book after reading this thread last night. I’ve not reached the first exercise yet, but it’s raises some good point. Stand out phrases are “temporary mild discomfort to achieve long term goals” as being kind rather than having a “treat” as being kind to yourself and making the same choices you’d want a daughter or sister to make in that position.

looking forward to doing more unpicking on reasons why I overeat and make bad choices as I go along. Like a lot of people on here I’m ok during the week but then make rubbish choices of a weekend

Orchidgal · 27/06/2023 12:58

Well done with your weight loss Peae! And well done for sticking with it and always going back to the book, even when you fall off the wagon. You’re clearly committed to the programme long term, great that you want to share that experience, the author should pay you commission, haha! ;-)

TheCatterall · 27/06/2023 13:18

@NatashaKayC definitely up
for a zoom call to work through that. Her IG post was somewhat of an eye opener to me and rather poignant. I‘m a total newb to the author and this thread having just found it today. The book is now on order!

Peae · 27/06/2023 19:11

It's lovely to have a busy thread :)

I have quickly got back to it, checked the scales despite what I said, and I'm pretty much back to where I was. I've been typing up some worksheets for the book's exercises and printed them out. Now, each morning before work I'm spending ten minutes in my car filling them out or reading the book.

Great!!!! this weekend?

Openmouthinsertfood · 01/07/2023 19:21

Ok, so I'm up to the making the plan chapter. I think this book is more for people who haven't started yet, or keep starting! I have found some good insights (I can identify with a lot of what the author is saying.), like I was surprised by just how much I didn't like my own body! Trying to turn that around now. I have found it useful, and will reread once I finish, just to really 'get it.'

Peae · 01/07/2023 21:26

I think this book is more for people who haven't started yet, or keep starting!

I think definitely the latter (hence the title). What do you mean by the former?

OP posts:
Openmouthinsertfood · 02/07/2023 20:46

Sorry, I meant people that haven't decided on a plan of action. Like what kind of diet and (Self imposed) rules they are going to stick to, what they are going to eat, what exercise to do etc.
It must work though I weighed the Friday before last and was disappointed to only have lost 1.7 lbs. Last Friday I lost over three and got down to the next stone bracket and wasn't excited! (Not basing happiness/self worth on the scales.)
I also found the chapter on movement/exercise good. I could emphasize with the author about really not liking it! I am stating very slowly and working up (Have anaemia, non medicated subclinical thyroid and take two medications that have a sedative affect.). Today I did 5 minutes Tai Chi and was also much more active than usual.
What do you and others do for self care?

Peae · 02/07/2023 21:03

I’ve really found the change in self-care important because I noticed how much I rely on food to soothe or distract myself from difficult thoughts and situations.

I’ve started really mindfully moisturising my face and bought a beautiful hand moisturiser for work. I am mindful at looking after my oral hygiene and feet care(!).
I prioritise taking time in the garden when it’s sunny. i close my eyes and think I could be a millionaire with no money worries; she’d be sat in the sun enjoying just the same few moments I am.
I plan nice days out at the beach or in woodland or a spa, and enjoy having them to look forward to.
I’ve also noticed how much better I feel when I see friends and have a really good, authentic catch-up.

I too would like to hear about others’ self care.

Ahh, things haven't been great here. I've had a really anxious and stressful time at work the last couple of weeks, and my Last Diet's gone to pot as I comfort eat my way through it.
I've plateaued recently, meaning I'm only down about 5lb on the start of the year. I'm feeling pretty rubbish. There's a growing whisper in my head telling me that I can't do it, that I know the evidence shows that with every attempt to lose weight most of us end up putting it all back on, plus some. I look down at my tummy and I don't think it's ever been so round or tight before :(

It's not just my diet that I seem to be failing at. There's also my exercising, my job and a close relationship.

I want to get back on the horse tomorrow, but I'm feeling pretty fed up tonight :(

Great!!!! this weekend?

So sorry @NatashaKayC - I didn’t see your comment. I only get notifications about direct tags and new comments from OP in threads.

I must admit I’ve slipped with reading it this last two weeks as work got me all excited - new business launching. But happy to do a WhatsApp or zoom chat for some team support and accountability. :)

GoatsareGOAT · 14/07/2023 21:05

Aww be kind to yourself Peae! You can do this.
It's just a detour & you'll get back on the path. Can you do something nice for yourself this evening? Do you like a bath or can you ask someone for a hug?

WRT the diet stats I've decided I'm going to be that 1 in 4000 people that actually loses the scary amount of weight- someone has to be that person 😃

NatashaKayC · 15/07/2023 13:10

Beautiful! ladies!
No worries I got caught with things too. Being excited about a new business I think is part of TKM. Enjoying things and being present.

Different strokes for different folks, if this diet isn’t helping you any more, switch to something different, there’s no end of weight loss programmes out there!

I’ve found ‘Embrace You’ an excellent book for helping me understand my emotional relationship with food. Highly recommend!

I found last night’s “cathartic release” very helpful.
I went back to The Last Diet and noticed the bits I’d stopped doing. Also looked at some supportive resources. Back on it today and if I’m not exactly feeling optimistic I am definitely feeling positive and back in control.
