A motivational thread for home exercisers!

Hi everyone

Thought i'd start this thread to try and give and receive some motivation to do some exercise at home.

I need to get off my enormous behind and actually do some exercise now that the conservatory has been set up with a TV and video/DVD player. I also have a step and weights too and it has been known for me to actually get very fit by doing my Step videos and using my hand weights a few years ago!

I haven't exercised for bloody months and months - probably at least 18 months. DD is now nearly 9 weeks so it's about time i started to get into shape, even just a little. My doctor told me i couldn't diet because i'm BFing but i most certainly can stop buying the choc chip muffins that i buy every day!

So basically i'm not dieting as such, just trying to cut out all of the crap food i've been eating lately, and to do a bit of exercise too.

Oh and in case you are wondering, I have 7 stone to lose. Yikes. A mountain to climb, but i'm doing to do it in baby steps, particularly as I will be TTC DC3 at the end of the year!

So far I have the following DVDs/Videos:

Cher - A New Attitude (dont laugh! It's a good basic step work out!)

Keli Roberts Step Video, the title of which escapes me at the mo, but she is the trainer in the Cher video.

Karen Amen - Crunch abdominal video (VERY good!)

Billy Blanks - Tae Bo 1 DVD. Also a very good DVD because the work out only lasts 25 minutes so you are more likely to be able to fit it in during the day. Although the work out is short and sweet, it seems to condition you very quickly.

I love step aerobics so would love any recommendations anyone has for new workout DVDs or Videos, from basic to advanced.

Please help with your support and I will do the same for you!!

Good plan. Good luck!

spokette · 19/02/2008 09:26

So who has been exercising?

I did the Pump it Up work out volume 4 DVD yesterday and it was soooooo hard. I sweated and ached but I feel great.

Planning to go to the gym this afternoon and planning a 2 mile run tomorrow morning.

I'm in the zone and I am keen!!

RGPargy · 19/02/2008 09:39

Wowsers, well done!!!!

I've done absolutely zilch exercise so far. I actually did think about doing it this morning tho, if that counts lol.

Cant do any til i have an empty house tho so hopefully it'll be tomorrow (and providing the baby sleeps long enough!).

Spokette you are putting us all to shame! I did manage to do Davina's cardio box (from my 3 30 min workouts) yesterday. And am contemplating blowing up the excercise ball that's been sitting in a box in the under stairs cupboard for the last year! RGP did u manage to get any exercise done yesterday?

RGPargy · 21/02/2008 11:00

Well done, JMB!!

No, i didn't do any exercise yesterday. Shame on me!

DD usually has a good nap in the mornings and this morning after she went off to sleep i decided to make a brew and then the thought occurred to me that i could actually be exercising instead of stuffing my face with tea and toast so you never know, i might actually get my kit on tomorrow and who knows where that might lead!!

Last week: 4 x30 mins sessions: tae bo vol 1, charlie brooks' b4 and after (just the warm up, combat and cool down sections), and Davina's Pump and cardiobox sessions. so far this week have done davina's core stability, on monday, and want to do at least 2 more sessions.
Have to do it while DS sleeping as he is obsessed with switching the tv and dvd player on and off which is really not helpful, oh and of course climbing all over me, pulling on my legs etc!
my top tip for the week: buy some new exercise clothes - new look have some surprisingly nice tracky bottoms for £6 - it somehow makes you feel more positive about/ keen to work out, or at least that's what I found - compared to my manky, saggy old trackies!

RGPargy · 28/02/2008 08:34

Wow, that's brilliant, well done!

I'd have to do mine while DD is sleeping too, but her "routine" has been up the bloody spout this week, typically, although i've actually been out every day this week so far so today is the only day i am indoors and have to catch up with the housework. That'll burn some calories anyway.

I know it seems like i'm making excuses, and i probably am, but i'm getting my hair done tomorrow so that'll make me feel a bit more positive about myself and might even kick my ass into gear.

I haven't even tried on my work out gear since God knows when, so i reckon i should try them on soon just in case they dont fit anymore lol

RGP, am trying to think of ways to help you take that first step! Why don't you try (maybe on Monday?) putting on your exercise clothes when you get dressed first thing, then when DD drops off for a nap you can just get going straight away without having to faff around getting changed etc, by which time she'll have woken up again! Also maybe have the DVD already in the DVD player so it's ready to go.

Spokette, well done you .

RGPargy · 28/02/2008 21:42

That's a good idea and it's what i used to do years ago. I found that if i had my exercise stuff on, it would be a constant reminder to actually DO some exercise! I might will do that on monday.

Glad to be of use

Jacksmybaby · 03/03/2008 20:42

Well?

RGPargy · 03/03/2008 21:38

Nope. Didn't happen. I was getting picked up at 10.30am this morning so i just didn't have time. However, I might be able to give it a go on Thursday (I'm busy tomorrow and weds mornings).

OP posts:
spokette · 04/03/2008 08:14

I went to the gym for a one hour session last Thursday but nothing since then because I started my period. Planning a return to the gym tomorrow and Thursday.

RGPargy, good luck for Thursday! I will be willing you on.

RGPargy · 04/03/2008 22:21

Thanx Spokette - i'll be listening out for your wills, IYKWIM

Get yourself down the gym now, young lady!!

OP posts:
Jacksmybaby · 05/03/2008 08:10

Spokette, one of the reasons I started exercising was to combat bad PMT and period pains, and I really find it does help to do some GENTLE (pilates-style) exercise at that time of the month, why not give it a go?
RGP, adding my wills to Spokette's for u!
p.s. last week managed x5 but was feeling a bit over keen! This week, x2 so far and hopefully one more tomorrow.
