A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

I'm here 👋🏼

I'm still doing okay. Decided to treat myself to a cupcake tonight. Was looking forward to it all day and was determined to savour it. I ate it in 3 bites 🤣

Thanks shiny for starting a brand new thread.
Your porridge sounds so good for this time of year. I hope you are enjoying it.
I have had a good day. Work was very busy so only grabbed a satsuma until getting home at 7. Dinner was quorn, broccoli coconut curry with half a lentils pouch. Two biscuits after and a packet of snack a Jack's 😊

Can I join
my BMI is in the 50 range ,I’ve a lot to loose ,made it to tier 3 with nhs ,first appointment (towards surgery )in March …but I desperately don’t want surgery,I like being able to eat .
i used food as my crutch my whole life ,I’m nearly 50 ,and a bmi of 50 and things look bleak.
i just need to learn to eat normally ,to not binge when things go wrong ,to not overeat when things go good .
pits a mountain to climb ,probably the hardest thing I’m ever going to have to do in my life ,I’m scared i can’t do it ,I’m scared food means to much to me .
im swimming every day ,but I actually put a whole stone on over the summer ,the summer holidays are a nightmare for me ( 2 dc with autism won’t leave the house so I’m stuck in with them )
just currently trying each day to do the best I can
every diet I’ve ever tried I deliberately sabotage due to ( i believe PDA tendances )

I feel like I’m only living half a life ,and I don’t know how to start to live a full life .i go to bed at 6 / 7 pm at night ,so I don’t eat anything else ,knowing I’m to lazy to come downstairs for food even if I’m hungry .some nights I skip dinner and choose to go to bed hungry in the hope the scales show a loss in the morning.
I’ve told myself ,if I’ve not lost a significant amount of weight by the time for surgery comes ,I will have to have it

Joining the new thread, welcome @Autumflower
Strict diets never work for me, I just obsessively think about whatever I'm not allowed. Maybe you'd be better with smaller changes to begin with

Welcome @Autumflower

I think a lot of us can relate with the relationship between food and our feelings in different ways. It does seem like a massive mountain when you look at the big picture but when I'm struggling I take it down to the basics and think about one day at a time. That way if I have a bad day, I can hopefully draw a line under it and put my focus on making the next day better. I've been ill recently and getting better now, so while I'm not counting all my calories again just yet, I'm trying to make small changes so I can get properly back on things next week.

One of my DCs has autism too so I understand how that can affect things for you getting out or needing to be there for them, even if it's at your own expense. Swimming every day is great though, there are more school days than there are holidays so it'll still help even if you need to take that break every time DC are off school.

I follow the TwoChubbyCubs page on FB and there's one thing they've said that's stuck with me, and it's that when you're starting out (or restarting) then keep a note of everything you eat. Even if you're calorie counting and have 2000 calories a day but you eat twice that, seeing it written down can help you to make small changes, and as Echoes has said too, it's easier at first just with those small steps to try and keep it up. I'm trying to remember to do that when I have bad days so hopefully at the next bad day I'll stop and think before I eat.

We all know how hard it can be though and that's why I've loved having this group. There's support even when things aren't going to plan. Flowers

Thankyou ,what a lovely kind welcome message .
im going to read through the first thread ,to hopefully get some ideas ,
I can’t imagine I will be much support to anyone at the minute, but having others in the same boat always helps x

Welcome @Autumflower
I am currently doing calorie counting on an app called fat secret. I have tried every plan going but this is working at the monent for me.
Have you tried an app like this?
Could you have something like beans on toast in the evening so your not feeling hungry.

As long as we can help you @Autumflower then don't worry. Everyone here has had their ups and downs so far and it's everyone else here that has kept me going and trying to stick to things as much as possible.

Like Sunshine I'm calorie counting but I'm using the NutraCheck app which I really like. I've managed to adapt it so I get more calories on a Saturday so if I go to the football or out to the pub I'm covered a bit more then. I can't remember how I found that feature but it's definitely helped me as I would often go over on a Saturday and just say "fuck it" for the Sunday too and it often snowballs from there.

I haven't tracked my calories today but meals were:
Breakfast: porridge
Lunch: ham salad sandwich with salad cream
Dinner: chicken and broccoli pasta

There have been some snacks too so I'm just trying to focus on getting more veg and fewer snacks for now. I've been drinking tea non-stop all day too - dash of semi-skimmed milk and no sugar so that's not too bad calorie-wise for me. I've had a few lozenges too which I would have felt guilty over when I was on SW, that's one thing I hated about it, when you're ill it's surely better to have things that help you instead of constantly worrying about syns in them. But then I never did count anything like that when I was ill as I knew it was temporary. Blush

I didn't make Pilates tonight as I've just been exhausted from the bug still wearing off but it's probably a good thing as I would have been way too tempted to buy a bottle of wine on my way home.

Wow I have lost a stone!!! I can't believe it!
Start weight 18.9
Current weight 17.9
I have been very strict this week so I need to make sure I don't ruin it this weekend.
How is everyone else doing?

@Sunshineandrainbow well done ☺️ it's lovely to hit the stone marker. I most definitely have not been strict this week had takeaway or eaten out every night this week 😂 not showing much movement on the scales yet but I think it will in a couple days. Social lives are not your friend on a diet

Report
ShinyPikachu · 28/11/2022 14:09

Huge well done @Sunshineandrainbow

I hear you on the social life/diet balance @Echoes89

Despite that I managed to lose 1lb this week though. I was meant to be tracking again from today but it's been an unexpectedly crazy one with family but I'm going to go log everything I can remember so far. I'm a little worried with more and more social things coming up in December but I guess I just have to be stricter on the other days around the days/nights out.

I've also got some good news, I'm done with physio and I'm walking around like normal now. It still occasionally aches but not to the point I can't walk normally. I'm still to do modified moves at Pilates (the instructor has been brilliant about this) until I feel confident that I won't hurt my ankle again but hopefully that's me fully on track and not having to restart my weight loss yet again.

I'm going to start posting my weight weekly and will try to remember my daily calories/meals too. I need some more accountability and if I'm sharing it more then I'll definitely be thinking about what I'm having I hope!

Start weight: 19st 11.6lb
Current weight: 19st 6.9lb
Loss this week: 1.0lb
Total loss: 4.7lb

@ShinyPikachu well done on losing 1lb thats brilliant.
We have had a birthday in the house and three meals out, need to be extra strict now for the rest of the week.
Enjoy the special meals coming up and just limit in between. Weight watchers used to do a plan where you could save points up so think of it like that.
The most important thing is not to think oh well I have two meals out this week so I may as well write the week off!

Report
ShinyPikachu · 29/11/2022 08:35

Yeah definitely. NutraCheck has a way to take calories from the other days and use them on a day you know you'll need more if you set it up in advance so I think every week I know I've got something on I'll sort that out on the Monday. Even just 100 calories from every other day gives an extra 600 for a meal out which I know can make a huge difference.

That's a great idea shiny, I had vegan spag bol (Bella Italia) at one of my meals and it was 500 calories I am not vegan but it was the better choice and it was so good. I am aware I am definitely making better choices. Yesterday my kids had pancake stacks and I had a simple bagel, obviously had two mouthfuls of nutella pancakes that Dd insisted I tasted!!!!

@Sunshineandrainbow thank you 😊 this is the most weight I've ever lost. Years ago I set my weight goal as 12st 7lbs and it felt impossible. Now it actually seems in reach. Comfortably buying size 16s, would love to be a size 12 eventually. Need to take a leaf out of your book this weekend and choose the healthier option when I go out for food this weekend and not cave and get the greasiest thing on the menu 😂

Report
Sunshineandrainbow · 01/12/2022 10:02

Absolutely you will crack this @Echoes89
I think looking at the menu before you go is a good idea and not being swayed once there. I also think its really important if you really want something have it but make sure the rest of the day is super strict. In the past I have had the mind set that oh well I am going out for a high calorie meal today so I may as well write the day off and stuff my face, that day would often turn to a week or more.

I maintained this week. The scales said 0.1lb down but the app they link to had no change and I go by the app since that's what's recorded so it must have been close.

It's been a busy week with a lot of socialisation and very little control over food for that so I'm fine to not have gained at least.

How is everyone else doing?

I've decided that I'm going to try to maintain until the rest of the year. I've got a lot going on, and with Christmas coming up I feel like I can't give weightloss my full attention any more. I'm not giving up - I still really need to lose more and will be back on things in January. I definitely don't want to gain anything as I've worked so hard to get where I am. I couldn't imagine being this weight last year, and I'm looking forward to what next year will bring!

OMG I still can't believe what happened today. I needed a new shirt for work as mine are a bit big (I haven't had new ones since I started losing weight). I was handed a size M and I was thinking "there's no way this will fit!" But they insisted I try it on.

Well, it fit perfectly. I've gone from an XXL to M!

That's awesome, bet you were chuffed, you've lost so much, I think with such a major weight loss it must be hard to take into account how much smaller you are even when you see the scales go down
