Ah thank you DL will go and get lots of veg later and whip up a batch. Perhaps that will magically make me stop eating bourbons and hot chocolate at every opportunity?!

discoverlife · 04/02/2008 16:26

If you really need a chocolate hit, get some chocolate options hot drinks. They can really take the edge off a chocolate craving and in this weather are a great comfort zone drink.

Tomato and roasted red pepper soup.
Cut the flesh off a red papper in large chunks (cutting the 'cheeks' off is best). Lay the pepper skin side up on a roasting tray and spray with spray lite or smear a very light film of oil on them. Grill on high until parts of the skin are black/ burnt. Take them from under the grill and pop them straight away into a plastic bag or wrap in cling film and keep sealed for about 15 minutes. After this time the skins should just slide off, leaving the yummy flesh. Add the flesh to a basic tomato soup. Or peel the skin off and add slices to a salad.

pollywobbledoodle · 04/02/2008 21:12

evening all
i find most veg soups can be lifted by putting a drizzle of that herb and chilli oil you put on pizzas in the pan

am back on that waggon again....didn't realise it had a circular route currantbunmum!

with the help of paul mckenna i am thinking about my intake more (you know what is good for you, he says in a drawly manner on his hypnosis cd....i assume he does mean in the long term!) eating only when hungry(on the whole....the choc slipped under that barrier) and savouring by eating slowly etc

brekkie....meusli and yoghurt
lunch......2 crumpets and spread, banana
eve........2 sausages, mash, onion gravy, braised red cabbage.
2 squares dark choc

belcantavinissima · 04/02/2008 22:07

back from weight watchers and not only have i not lost anything this week, i have put on a pound so am gutted.

f@ing cake! its all the cakes fault.;

squilly · 04/02/2008 22:13

Hi everyone...

It sounds like all posters this last few days have been doing a fabulous job. It's so inspiring!!!

Right....today has consisted of:-

Brekkie - Just Right, Milk & two tonnes of blueberries, raspberries and grapes

Lunch - Just right, milk & half tonne of blueberries, raspberries and grapes

Snack - Packet of baked crisps

Eve - WW ready meal (mushroon risotto...one of my faves, only 5.5 points) with steam fresh veg (from a packet, thus highlighting the laziness of my evening) and 2 slices of WW bread.

I actually sat through my dd having a Maccie D's after swimming and didn't even think about what I was missing. Partly cos the Last Maccie D's I had made me hugie and partly because I'm definitely on diet mode.

I love the soup recipes discoverlife. Are they WW? Apparently soup is the meal of the week according to our illustrious leader on Friday. I'm WAY too lazy to make soup, even though I know it's easy and a great way to fill up with few points. I'd rather do my mushroom thang!

Right ho everyone. Have a good night tonight and a great day tomorrow!

fedda · 04/02/2008 22:27

Hi, Jahan, I had some oat cakes with my soup and also with my cappa. i had a lot of soup today and 3 cups of tea with jam (sorry, I can't resist it, it's made with concentrated grape juice instead of sugar). i had also 2 apples, I feel I have eaten enough if not more then i needed.

susiecutiemincepies · 04/02/2008 23:10

Hey all

Have been ok today. until just now....

brunch: small bowl honey nut fitness with skimmed milk
Dinner: Roast chicken leg with parsnips, and mashed carrot and swede.

ok, now for the naughty bit.. have just made a (small) cup of white chocolate with cinnamon, hot choc. Its made by 'The chocolate alchemist'. You make it 'short' style. One part hot choc flakes with 2 parts milk. Its SO rich, but delicious. It thickens as it comes to the boil and the choc flakes melt. hmmmmmm . So, i'm having a medium sized cup.

polly Paul mackenna does talk alot of sense in his think yourself thin, ( or what ever its called I mean, its not scientific to stop eating when you are full, but the amount of times I just carry on, and on and on... the whole mental issue with leaving food on your plate, I just fine so difficult. If you consciously think to yourself, am I full, and stop when oyu are, you DO decrease your intake considerably! Also, after a while, you just give yourself less... according to my brother anyway. He swears by it working.

To all of you who are havign a bad day or two, dont worry! you can get back on track. the best thing you can do IS get straight back on track, and not think you have written off the whole week by having a bad few days. htats the easiest mistake to make. you think to yourself, oh well, i've blown it now start fresh next week, and actually end up eating worse than you would ever normally been there done it got the t-shirt.!

Also, you then have an unhealthy attitude to food itself. you see it as a bad, devil thing. When its not really. Just get back on track as soon as you can, and you will be fine. I promise.

discoverlife · 04/02/2008 23:36

Uh oh! Popcorn. Half a large bag. The worst of it is, I didn't really taste it, Wahhhhhhhh! I was just sticking my hand in the packet and grabbing a handfull at a time.

LoveMyGirls · 05/02/2008 08:18

Hi everyone,

The meal last night was gorgeous!
Had steak with shake and steak instead of peppercorn sauce ( which would have needed milk and butter) i replaced the fried egg with a grilled tomato for me and the jacket pots with bacon and mushroom and cheese - i didnt mix any cheese in with mine just sprinkled a little bit on top and i cut all the fat off the bacon, i used fry light on my potato wedges but pudding i had half a slice of new york cheesecake (a whole slice is 26g fat!) with strawberries and melon and sprinkled 2 ferreo rochers on the top

I'm definitely being good now!! (dp said i should stop eating cake now because my belly is looking a bit podgey again - erm well that would be because it TOTM!!!!)

It's wet out so exercise will be limited today, think i'll have to resort to cleaning to burn some calories - at least the house will be clean!! Will try walking tomorrow!!

MrsFish · 05/02/2008 08:20

I have had an awful week, back on it today though, will write off this last week and pray for a stay the same week

Jahan · 05/02/2008 10:54

Fedda - sounds good and healthy. Looks like you're back on track!
Polly - I used the Paul Mckennas cd a few years ago and it really worked. It did change the way I thought about food and made me think twice about eating junk as I would be very aware that there was no nutritional benefits to me. I'll have to see if I can dig it out again.
MrsFish - It looks like a few of us have overindulged and are back to the diet now so you are in good company.
LMG - that meal sounds lovely. Its brilliant that you managed to keep it healthy!

I'm very tired today due to lack of sleep for the past 2 nights (ds1 kept waking up). I'm having to try really hard to resist those sugary quick fixes!

Food plan for the day;
porridge, coffee
soup, bread
dahl, rice, veg

fedda · 05/02/2008 13:18

It looks it but i eat too much, Jahan, my prtions are huge!

amazonianwoman · 05/02/2008 14:57

OH HELP HELP PLEASE!!! I AM SOOOOO SH*TE, I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR MY BODY!!!

I lost 4lbs in January, weighed myself this morning, have put on 5lbs. I've NEVER been this heavy, apart from when pg.

Yesterday I was just plain fed up (& bored) and ate 2 packets of hula hoops, some homemade cherry/coconut cake, 2 choc bars and some ice cream.

No wonder I'm overweight then, but how can I stop continually putting crap into my mouth without even realising it???

2 friends keep urging me to do WW or Slimming World, but I just hate the whole environment, never stay for classes and hence begrudge paying £5 a week. I never follow the diets either, find I just spend even more time thinking about points/red/green days blah blah blah

I find it easier to lose weight when I'm happy/motivated, but struggling with all that positivity when I'm stuck at home trying to find things to entertain a 3.7yo and a 10mth old

Help help help

amazonianwoman · 05/02/2008 14:59

Oh, forgot to say, actual meals are pretty healthy, just all the cr*p inbetween

Jahan · 05/02/2008 16:12

Sorry to hear you're down about your diet.
I normally eat like you've just described and, unfortunately, there's no cure for it. It really does boil down to willpower.

You can do various things to help motivate yourself though. I keep trying on my size 12 jeans and visualise getting into them.
I also read the success stories on ww online and think 'If they can do it, so can I!'

Try these (I found these ideas on a website and they help);

Eat some nuts first thing. Apparently, it levels out blood sugar and curbs cravings.

Do 15mins of exercise first thing as that stops you craving too.
Brisk walking with a buggy is good. Getting some fresh air well be uplifting and give you something to do with the kids (I have a 2y9m and 4m old and I have to do this every morning to save my sanity!)

Tell everyone close to you you're on a diet so they can help motivate and encourage you.

Incorporate a daily treat into your diet like a biscuit or snack size choc so you know you've got that to look forward to.

Apparently, daily weighing is good.

Forget about today and start afresh tomorrow.
Hope that helps!

fedda · 05/02/2008 16:21

I have very similar problem as well. Try to have a good stock for snacks - nuts, apples, raspberries, bluberries, grapes, carrots - whatever you love eating and it will take away the wish to eat the stuff you usually have between meals. Drink water, smoothies, have some lemon juice in your water, have plain low fat yougurt with berries as a snack and have variety of things so you don't feel bored. try your best, we are all human beings we do eat the wrong stuff but if in general you have good quality snacks it will help. Good luck. I must say it all to myself what to eat and how to go about the other stuff i tend to put in my mouth.

LoveMyGirls · 05/02/2008 16:35

I weigh myself daily and if I havent dropped any then it spurs me onto try harder and if i've put on then i'm doubley good and if i've lost it makes me try more because I know I can do it!

I've been exactly the same for the past 5 days and i just keep trying and thinking at least after all i've eaten i havent put any on!!

MrsFish · 05/02/2008 16:40

Jahan - I have a 2yr8mth and a 4mth old too

I also have problems with snacking, I just don't buy anything nice, if it was in the house I would eat it. The past couple of weeks I have relented and bought some ww choc desserts though, they live in the freezer and need at least half an hour to defrost so I look forward to having one and really savour it rather than something I can quickly stuff in my face. Also for a low cal choc fix, Sainsbury's BGTY range do a choc mousse for 89 cals which is just enough to stop my cravings. If you really can't help eating choc I have also found that I buy DS a funsize pack every couple of weeks so for under a 100 cals you could have a choc fix that way too

currantbunmum · 05/02/2008 17:27

amazonianwoman · 05/02/2008 19:29

Thanks for your support Been having a bad few days!

After reading your msgs, I've thrown out remaining biscuits etc, so no excuses now. I'm giving up chocolate & cakes for Lent...

I do walk every morning - about 10-15 mins each way on the pre-school run - which does help my sanity, I just never seem to have time for proper exercise except for when the kids are in bed, then I'm just too knackered.

Will try the nuts

Ah well, tomorrow is another day. Off to buy a full length mirror (none in the house right now) to see if shock tactics might work

fedda · 05/02/2008 19:33

Sounds good, amazonianwoman. Good luck!

discoverlife · 05/02/2008 20:03

Reference the soups, I used to be a chef, and my son is a chef, so we tend to be able to knock up something. But I too suffer from the snacking syndrome as well. So I have a fruit bowl stacked to the ceiling, and a carrier bag full of fruit in the cupboard for when it empties. I do have DH & kids who like fruit as well. I actually added up the relative costs of fruit as opposed to cakes, biscuits, sweets and chocs in a week and £5 of fruit a weeek is cheaper in the long run.

katylessbumpy · 05/02/2008 21:09

some happy and not so happy posts .
tomorrow's another day everyone so let's stay positive.
who is weighing in tomorrow?
