Day 1 of Huel - anyone else tried it?

LaughingBallz · 09/11/2022 10:53

I got my first pouch delivered today - vanilla. I'm using it is a meal replacement to help me lose some weight and hopefully stop snacking...

Has any tried this and had any success? Just drinking my first one now and the taste isn't great, so any suggestions on how to make it a bit more palatable? I've added a scoop of hot chocolate which has marginally helped, but looking for other suggestions!

Thanks!

My BIL lost loads of weight on it but he said it was hard on his stomach.

hugznotdrugz · 09/11/2022 10:56

No help sorry I couldn't get on with the taste of huel! I'd recommend getting a few sample packs of different brands and going from there- I've found slender blend and nutribuddy the best

LaughingBallz · 09/11/2022 11:00

@ThunderMoo in what was was i5 hard on his stomach? This worries me 😂

@hugznotdrugz This is only a small pouch, I think 7 days worth. I also have a sample box coming from a place called Abnormal, which I think will be delivered tomorrow. I'll check out the others that you recommended too. Thank you!

I guess that comes with a lot of the different variants out there though?

I'm rethinking this whole thing now

Do you wfh?

Yayyayitsaholiholiday · 09/11/2022 11:19

If you’re needing to add hot chocolate to a weight loss aid, I can only imagine you’re onto a losing streak………

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 09/11/2022 11:21

My dh, df and dsm are all on huel with amazing results.

No problems with digestion or anything like that. They do use the premixed bottles as apparently it is nicer.

I tried it but it brought me out in a rash.

Just find what fits. I use slim fast and that works best for me.

blend with banana and strawberry and leave in fridge for a few hours. Makes all the difference!

I realised I didn't word it right!! I meant a scoop of Options hot chocolate powder at 39 calories (which I did log in my fitness pal) 🤣

Thanks, but I'm vegan so many meal replacement aren't any good for me with the milk etc..

Blend with lots of ice. Also mix 1-2 teaspoons of instant coffee with a small amount if boiling water and mix in, lovely ice coffee.

Great in theory, but I hate coffee 😞

Lots of meal replacement shakes make people incredibly gassy/give them squits.

My son lost 5st and still uses it for his breakfast and pack up now.
I couldn't tolerate it- terrible indigestion!
We're all different!

LaughingBallz · 09/11/2022 13:14

I'm going to grab some fruit later and try it in a smoothie tomorrow. Lucky I only got a week's worth and a few samples from another place. I almost went all out for a massive pouch!

Definitely make it in advance and leave in the fridge for a couple of hours, makes a real difference. I have the vanilla one for nights when I get in late and don't want to cook anything and I like it!

InconvenientPeg · 09/11/2022 13:41

I blend it with ice and a banana. It never gave me the stomach issues I've heard other people talk about. I only use the unflavoured and original, as I'm not keen on 'flavoured' meal replacements. It's really good if you're sensitive to sugar, it's the only thing that actually has kept me full and dulled cravings.

I'm trying to work up to 2 a day but get a bit bored and want real food!

InconvenientPeg · 09/11/2022 13:43

Or make, then put in freezer for a couple of hours, it gets slushy and that def improves it.

JackyinaTracky · 09/11/2022 13:45

DH did this one a few years ago. He lost weight, but my god the Huel farts were deadly! Just… unimaginable! I’m sure with the right science they could have been weaponised. Truly truly awful (I’m obviously left with some sort of post-Huel trauma).
