Day 1 of Huel - anyone else tried it?

I got my first pouch delivered today - vanilla. I'm using it is a meal replacement to help me lose some weight and hopefully stop snacking...

Has any tried this and had any success? Just drinking my first one now and the taste isn't great, so any suggestions on how to make it a bit more palatable? I've added a scoop of hot chocolate which has marginally helped, but looking for other suggestions!

Thanks!

DH did this one a few years ago. He lost weight, but my god the Huel farts were deadly! Just… unimaginable! I’m sure with the right science they could have been weaponised. Truly truly awful (I’m obviously left with some sort of post-Huel trauma).

Oh no 😂😂😂😂

Thanks for all the advice (and horror stories).
Hopefully the weight loss comes before the nuclear farts 😂

Wondering how the your Huel diet was coming along? any horror stories?😬

I buy the chocolate ready made up bottles. They're great and I have definitely noticed an uptick in health and energy. I'm using them for weight loss indirectly at the moment. They stop me grabbing bread, biscuits and other rubbish when I am suddenly starving. A Huel lasts me around 3 hours and gives me enough of a pause to then think about what to cook later, shop if I need to and it sustains me then to make better choices later.

Oh and no tum/digestion/bowel issues at all for me - but I'm a vegetarian, so the veggie protein in the drinks isn't new to me

mozzyworries · 01/01/2023 17:53

I've never had a dodgy stomach with Huel.

I have the banana one and the taste is fine, maybe try that. I also really like Jimmy Joy shakes which I found less grainy than Huel.

I do find it's not as filling as a meal, probably psychologically, so you may want to get some low calorie/high fibre filling snacks like veggies to go along with your Huel meal, to help you feel full up.

You might like to try blending it with ice/berries for more of a shake.

I like the banana one. The hot and savoury Thai curry is decent too.
I think with the powder shakes you need to put them in the fridge for a few hours or use ice. They're much better very cold.

I have a very sensitive stomach but was fine for me, I only have it at lunch though. For me it was less about weight loss and more about an easy nutritional lunch because I just have bread and chocolate otherwise!

MWNA · 01/01/2023 18:09

I have the unflavoured, unsweetened, low carb black bags. I mix 3 scoops (600 calories) with 500ml of coconut milk (100 calories), 200ml water and 2 scoops of hot chocolate powder (approximately 50 calories). That's 2 meals for me. I blitz it in the Nutri Bullet. It tastes grainy and like Huel but I don't mind if.

LaughingBallz · 04/01/2023 12:51

Yeah, so turns out it wasn't Huel I was on... I just went onto Amazon, searched Huel, and grabbed the cheapest powder I found 🙈 didn't even notice until I scanned it into my fitness pal

But, it is pretty much the same thing and I am starting to enjoy it. I did stop for a while because of Christmas and losing motivation, but I am right back on it (only starting yesterday).

Vanilla flavour mixed with strawberries, banana and an apple. It's a filling meal replacement for lunch.

Can't complain so far - will need to wait until next weigh-in day to see!!

I guess that comes with a lot of the different variants out there though?

I'm rethinking this whole thing now

I think this is probably more about it being plant based tbh

Most likely... when I first went vegan I overloaded on beans and legumes because I was told to by t'internet.... my farts were really, really awful for a while before I cut down on the beans - even the dog was moving away from me😂

Bear with any stomach issues. It's the extra fibre and will settle down! I have family members who have lost 5/6 stone and not been hungry doing manual work on Huel.

MissMissive · 19/03/2023 05:21

Is anyone still doing this?

Hellenabe · 19/03/2023 06:20

An ex used this and I think it does work. He was never a slimfast buyer plus was very ripped by the end. However I don't think I could stomach replacing my breakfast for this as its my pleasure every morning! If I did, I'd buy the preprepared one.

I would recommend listening to this BBC podcast about meal replacement drinks
