Fresh thread for a fresh start! It's me, Hard Baked Owl if anyone remembers me from our previous threads

Anyway, I've been off in the wilderness for the past month. I don't know why I have done this but I want to stop the rot before I put the weight back on

I've lost 2 stone since April and by some miracle, I'm still at a 2 stone loss. Despite eating magnums and crisps daily

So tomorrow I'm back to it. Back in the circle where I felt good and I'd like to lose one stone between now and the 19th November

This feels ambitious. Yet it's something to aim for isn't it?

Anyone fancy joining in or hopping back in the circle with me?

Oh I do love pilates! Sounds like a shout.

Soyacappuccino · 10/11/2022 05:10

good morning everyone!
I had a great day yesterday-fully in the circle but today first day at work and so starving by lunchtime as too busy to have a snack. Hey ho, just forgive and forget!!
straight back in the circle ⭕️!!
pilates was good by the way! The LM one!!

Megasaur5keeper · 10/11/2022 08:36

Urg, I hate those days.
Yesterday was not so good for me food wise, in that
B- porridge with apples, blackberries, almond butter and flaked almonds
S- 2 small apples and almond butter
L- squash soup with 1/2 slice good wholewheat bread and some savoury granola
S- tortilla chips and aubergine dip
T- meatballs, tomato sauce, pasta, veg, random scoops of nuts, an oatcake and cheese, chocolate Brazil nuts and malteasers. And the other 1/2 slice of bread.

I was feeling quite ill following flu vac and had started period , and by the time I got home was shaking and thought I would faint. So shovelling food in seemed the response.
Not great. I think the large coffee I had at lunchtime also negatively impacted me. Anyway, today is another day.

ElvenDreamer · 10/11/2022 09:18

Checking in. The last 2 or 3 days for me have been a little varied. Meals all on plan, then a random stress eating snaxident, at least 1 a day sadly. BUT I have had much better meal planning and generally the snacidents have been smaller so I'm taking it as a win! Bircher for breakfast today. Snack will (WILL🤞🤞!) be fruit and oatcakes. Salad lunch, intending to try the cauliflower and bitter lbeam affair in one of the LP books. Dinner is salmon with leeks. Walked the school run today (just over a mile each way) so step count looking good.

Megasaur5keeper · 10/11/2022 17:43

Snaxident is now my favourite word

Soyacappuccino · 10/11/2022 23:25

Snaxident! Love it @ElvenDreamer !

@Megasaur5keeper understandable reaction to feeling unwell regardless of cause. Tomorrow is an other day. Important thing is to step back in the ⭕️, forgive and forget!

which is what I intend to do about the fish and chips I had for dinner yesterday to celebrate my first day at work-was exhausted and had zero headspace for making anything. In retrospect should have taken an on plan meal out of the freezer but 🤷‍♀️

ElvenDreamer · 11/11/2022 19:18

Snaxident just sounds a whole heap better than many alternatives, keeps it feeling lighthearted so I don't spiral into the slough of despond in feeling like I messed up 🤣 So yesterday went mostly as planned, if you over look my evening plate of cheese and biscuits and dried fruit. Hey ho! Today okish, egg on wholegrain with rocket and avocado for breakfast, cauliflower and butter bean salad for lunch, beef and swede casserole with green veg for tea. Half a banana on oat cakes, a cereal bar (ok so that isn't in the circle but not too far out I feel.)
Friday's are not a great day for exercise ever due to my work patterns but I'll pick up more at the weekend so it evens out a bit. Sorry you've been feeling rough @Megasaur5keeper , I always comfort eat feeling like it might give me energy when I'm I'll, it sort if feels instinctive doesn't it? @Soyacappuccino hindsight is amazing isn't it, but it's all a process I reckon, and I'm impressed you have some meals in the freezer you can use anyway, celebrating 1st day of work definitely forgivable. Onwards and upwards folks!

Megasaur5keeper · 12/11/2022 13:59

It is definitely a process- progress not perfection .

I had a decent day yesterday, chose to get a delicious bun which I thoroughly enjoyed. Other than that basically on plan.
Today my wee girl wanted to make pasta so we are having that for lunch- had an egg breakfast with veg and toast, smoothie snack and the rest of the day is tbc.

Got les mills on demand and have done a barre class which was good and sweaty. Definitely better motivation than having to work out what to do myself!

Soyacappuccino · 13/11/2022 01:39

Good morning !
had a good day yesterday: apart from portion size: brunch out was avocado on sourdough with smoked salmon and poached eggs.
not hungry then until mid afternoon so had two day it’s with hummus.
second snack later of monkey toast
Then dinner was brown rice with sweet potato chilli made with beans and lentils.
then we went out to a local music festival which was fun!
Lazy morning today reading after my ironing marathon yesterday.
didn’t get my steps in yesterday so determined too today and so is the dog 😂
Happy Sunday!!
today’s plan:
B: eggs on toast
S: apple and almonds
L salad and salmon fillet
S: berry smoothie
D: don’t know yet.

Soyacappuccino · 13/11/2022 01:40
  • two ryvitas with hummus.
Compelled · 13/11/2022 09:25

Hello there, could I join? At a recent health check, I was told I have two and a half stone to lose to be a healthy BMI. I’ve bought the three books but feel that being part of a team; posting progress would be a big help in motivation and changing eating habits and tbh lifestyle habits.

ElvenDreamer · 13/11/2022 14:10

Hi @Compelled , it's definitely about lifestyle habits, and as Megasaur said, about progress not perfection. I definitely am not getting it all how I want it every week but I have made many changes that are definitely now habit.
@Soyacappuccino your lunch out sounds lovely, I really fancy smoked salmon now, that may go on my next shopping list!
Started today well, running with my daughter followed by a stretching app. @Megasaur5keeper I agree with you it's so much easier when someone is just telling you what to do! Eggs, peppers, tomatoes and spinach for breakfast. Snack was a biscuit and coffee with a friend but notice just the 1 biscuit! Lunch cheese on wholegrain and some salad. Chilli for dinner. Off for a walk now as it's nice here currently, then intend to prep some salad boxes for next week. Happy Sunday!

Soyacappuccino · 14/11/2022 02:58

Welcome @Compelled ! It definitely helps I think to have some accountability!

@ElvenDreamer the smoked salmon felt really luxurious but is on plan -everything tastes better with a dash of smugness I think! 😂

@Megasaur5keeper how are you going with the LMOD? I am trying to do a half hour of something every day. I don’t think I need a rest day when it’s mostly BB or Pilates.

Today:
B monkey toast before meetings friend for a soy flat white. No pastries though!! 👊
snack: 8 roasted almonds.
lunch : salad and salmon fillet.
snack: smoothie( my new addiction despite the work cleaning the nutribullet!)
dinner: not sure yet
exercise: walk 10000 plus 35 min BB
plus cleaned my house!!
⭕️

Compelled · 14/11/2022 08:28

Thanks @Soyacappuccino and @ElvenDreamer , hi to all. I’m starting my prep week. Aiming for yoga most days and to build from there. Also, reducing caffeine, cutting out alcohol and reducing sugar…not sure which will be the toughest! I feel ready for this and reading everyone’s progress is giving me a real boost.

Megasaur5keeper · 14/11/2022 19:45

@Soyacappuccino it's good, I have done barre twice, flapping about like a twit but i like that class. Absolutely what I needed for a change and motivation.
I'll probably give pilates a spin tomorrow or Wednesday.

Yesterday was pretty on plan food wise,
B- porridge with apples and nuts
s- cheese and apple
L- soup with savoury granola and good bread
S- nut mix and satsumas
t- roast chicken and veg

Today has been similar for breakfast and lunch, (exactly the same actually)
And had egg soufflés with onion and cheese
and an apple for morning snack no pm snack though the bread and granola on the soup likely count snd "Monday night chicken stew" for dinner.

And some risotto from my wee ones plate because it was delicious. I stopped earlier than I would have previously.

Got a lot of steps. Tuesdays I often don't but it averages out I think.
How's everyone else.

Soyacappuccino · 14/11/2022 22:28

Morning all!

well done @Megasaur5keeper on your restraint. I used to find it so difficult not to polish off food my DDs left on their plates. I was brought up to never leave anything and it’s a hard habit to break even now!

@Compelled you have set your sights high with reducing caffeine, alcohol and sugar all at once! Good for you if you can but I would have to do one at a time I think!! Although I’m currently not drinking alcohol but compensating a bit with sugar but not for long!!

hence stepping out of the circle yesterday as I was ravenous after 3 hours cleaning and not drinking enough water. I have noticed a real pattern that I get sugar cravings when I know I am actually thirsty but water doesn’t cut it. Will have to tackle that.

Today’s plan:
B avo on wholemeal toast with an egg
S almonds and apple
L salad
S smoothie
D: not sure. Last night was rushed so we had mushroom and walnut spaghetti. Delicious but not on plan. 😞

back in the ⭕️ I go!

have a good day everyone!

Megasaur5keeper · 15/11/2022 09:44

It was very delicious.
That spaghetti sounds good too.

Super fluffy pancakes with a side of strawberry sauce for breakfast.
Had a really long sleep last night somehow!

RosettaStormer · 15/11/2022 10:05

I just don’t understand how these recipes can bring about weight loss. If are the meals on this thread I would not lose weight. I just don’t understand how this all works.

Compelled · 15/11/2022 10:13

Morning. Yup, think my sights were too high. It seems to settle into my new approach yesterday became a caffeine marathon coupled with sugar fest, ate three (huge) chocolate biscuits. I think it was because I said ‘you can’t have that soon’. Anyway, taking the lead from Soyacappucino and going to manage in stages. For me, no alcohol as priority, really try to have no caffeine after midday/early afternoon and then maybe keep the house a chocolate biscuit free zone.
Have batch cooked the lentil bake and put in freezer but I can’t see a recipe for roasted veg. Thinking I am being daft and I can just roast veg but exclude potatoes/anything very carby. Does that seem right?

Soyacappuccino · 15/11/2022 15:00

@RosettaStormer I think it is about portion size and regular exercise , with essentially no periods of more than about 2 hours without eating. The other pillars help. Plus hydration. But it is not easy I grant you!

@Compelled don’t try and do too many things at once or you won’t sustain it
even if you don’t change your diet just stopping alcohol will lead to a gradual weight loss over time !

Soyacappuccino · 15/11/2022 15:02

@Megasaur5keeper The pancakes sound good although I can’t think of those as something healthy-guess that’s why it’s a lifestyle not a diet!!

Megasaur5keeper · 15/11/2022 21:54

@RosettaStormer it does seem unlikely but it does work. The portions are not huge unless a main ingredient is veg, there's a lot of volume to not much calories in many of them and the total calories count comes in Round 1600-1700 a day, which + movement is probably enough to get a decent calories deficit. For example, my dinner last night broken down was half q tin of haricot beans, 150g chicken, 1/2 a leek, 1 carrot, 1/2 stick celery, 1/2 tsp oil and some stock. And some green beans. Ends up a big bowl of delicious stew, but there's really not a lot of calories dense food there.
I remember being shocked by the snacks in particular. Specifically 25 g of cheese and some cherries.

However, 2st7lb at least down- it really does work.

@Soyacappuccino they are tasty but a bit of a faff. They are from 6wp, super fluffy is the name from the book.

@Compelled - that day is over, tomorrow is a new one. I get my caffeine in before lunch but Louise will have to prise it out of my cold dead hands... soya is right about the booze. I'm pretty sure there's a roast veg recipe in lfl recipe book as a side; and one of the very nice salads (warm winter roast ) has a roast veg base if you are wanting a recipe but yeah, stick with not potatoes and not root veg in the main. Teeny amount of oil gets used.

RosettaStormer · 15/11/2022 22:36

Thanks for the explanations. I need to find some reliable recipes in the books to get started, so recommendations welcome.

Megasaur5keeper · 16/11/2022 08:06

Depends what you like really! The bircher breakfasts are good and easy, most if the salads are delicious. But not very wintery.

Soyacappuccino · 16/11/2022 11:24

I like the Grumpa’s Dahl @RosettaStormer -seems to make enough for about 10 people so I halve it and adjust the vegetable quantities and it still makes loads. It’s delicious though and very warming and fragrant for the colder weather.
I like smoothies and Bircher though tend not to faff around with flavours but the one with raspberries and orange juice is delicious. !
when I was eating chicken the Paul’s passion chicken or something like that was delicious quick and easy.
what do you like to eat?
