Fresh thread for a fresh start! It's me, Hard Baked Owl if anyone remembers me from our previous threads

Anyway, I've been off in the wilderness for the past month. I don't know why I have done this but I want to stop the rot before I put the weight back on

I've lost 2 stone since April and by some miracle, I'm still at a 2 stone loss. Despite eating magnums and crisps daily

So tomorrow I'm back to it. Back in the circle where I felt good and I'd like to lose one stone between now and the 19th November

This feels ambitious. Yet it's something to aim for isn't it?

Anyone fancy joining in or hopping back in the circle with me?

Amazingly still on track Grin

I've had a wholemeal roll with halloumi, salad and hummus

I'll probably have a bowl of cherries shortly and maybe roasted veg with feta for dinner

@SilverLiningPlaybook it's always best to grab one of the books - always cheap on Vinted! - as that explains more in depth

But it's really quite simple. 3 meals a day (delicate portions - as Louise says!) and 2 snacks. It's not a specific low carb plan but carbs are naturally reduced as there is no rice, pasta or potatoes on plan. You may find the very odd mention but it's unusual

No honey, dates, sugar - the usual suspects. No calorie counting.

A typical day for me might be like this (bear in mind I'm 'kinda' vegan - just can't kick my Greek yogurt and cheese habit!)

Greek yogurt/ porridge/fruit and seeds

Apple and peanut butter

Wholemeal roll with plant kitchen bacon and salad

Cherries and a small piece of cheese

Quinoa / salads/ roasted veg and feta / tricolour salad / stir fry etc

I have lost 2 stone since the beginning of April before faltering but it really is so so straightforward and it really works.

Thanks. I can’t believe it’s that easy! I have the book somewhere so just dig it out. I looked at in the past and something put me off. Can’t remember what. I like that sort of food but don’t believe I would lose weight on it! Are there recipes in the book? That is where I fall down.

ElvenDreamer · 26/09/2022 03:49

@Megasaur5keeper this is where everyone is hiding! Hi all, thanks for the heads up on the other thread @ChocChipOwl

ChocChipOwl · 26/09/2022 09:21

@SilverLiningPlaybook honestly it's that easy! I've always kept an eye on calories and for the first time with this, I didn't. Very rarely felt hungry and just ate three meals and 2 snacks each day and swam or walked.

I didn't do the exercises in the books, barely glanced at them tbh. I just did my own swimming and walking.

All the books have recipes and ideas in them so you can grab any of the books and get started with understating then principles

@ElvenDreamer @Megasaur5keeper welcome back! Started new thread as I thought we could maybe do with a fresh start?

Thanks so much for the new thread @ChocChipOwl the old thread kept me going off the rails many a time (even though I mainly did a lot of lurking). I would like to come back in please after dancing outside the circle for much of the Summer and am now about 4lb heavier. I keep being sidetracked by other plans (SW, Fast800), so I spend all my time stopping and restarting a new diet every Monday - I never learn😂I know LPM works - its easy to follow and I fairly happily lost half a stone in a couple of weeks at the start of the Summer, I just need to keep going and stop sabotaging myself with my mini rebellions. I would like to lose at least 2 stone initially over a couple of cycles - and try for 3-4 stone loss in total. I am off to Turkey 4 weeks from today and if I don't get back in the circle soon, I will be even heavier, instead of 7lbs lighter before I go. Now I have found the new thread, I am moving past my toast and marmalade breakfast with a jammy wagon wheel chaser 😳and getting back in the circle with lentil soup for lunch.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 26/09/2022 20:00

I found my book but still am no clearer about what I’m supposed to do! Three meals a day and two snacks. No sugar and reduced carbs. The recipes all look quite fiddly and not particularly user friendly. I just don’t see what’s so special about this diet. If I ate three meals a day and two snacks I would not lose weight.

Aaaah this is where you all are!!!
Thanks for the fresh thread @ChocChipOwl - lovely new handle. Also - interesting about crisps and magnums. Maybe useful in the long term for recalibration of what you can cope with and keep stable?

Today I ate
B- bircher with strawberry and figs and a few hazelnuts
S- cheese and onion soufflés with an apple
L- Barley soup
S- a
Cocoa almonds and raspberries
D- pizza chicken tray bake and brocoli.

Got my steps and such like.
@SilverLiningPlaybook it's weird- I remember thinking "how" especially with some snacks. It does work- the 6 week plan has a bit about what sort of calories you should aim for if you are out and not eating from the books and it's 400 for a main meal and 200 for a snack so roughly 1600 a day. It's not very much (though I suspect a method day comes in a little higher tbh)
Which book do you have? The cookbook recipes are definitely fiddlier than the original book, and the 6wp is also a bit more of a faff.

I do the workouts and mix in some classes at a local gym. It works for me but I think not everyone on the threads do the workouts and are also doing so well.

@Gensola what a shock and I hope you recover quickly.

Anyway, glad I've been directed here and now off to bed x

Thanks for the useful info. I have Lean For Life. There is lots of lifestyle advice but not much else really.

Gensola · 27/09/2022 07:29

thanks @Megasaur5keeper 💐

Food plan for today:
B: overnight oats with blueberries and Greek yoghurt
S: oat flat white
L: sardine fish cakes with watercress and roasted beetroot
D: ? Out at my first work event since surgery, it’s a bit of a test run to see how I cope

Megasaur5keeper · 27/09/2022 08:30

@SilverLiningPlaybook the 6 week plan book is a little more directive in terms of "do these exercises for 30 mins 4 x a week for 2 weeks then move on to this workout " but yeah, there's a lot of pictures of pretty things, her with her familt and chat about achieving the "lifestyle " (pretty unrealistic with a small child with a lego and bits of paper everywhere obsession...) and not so much about what to do on a day to day basis.

The lifestyle sections caused my.husgqnd to spend literally weeks tiding cupboards... you can have too much of this I think...

The main thing about the food is portion control really- and replacing higher g.i. carbs with veg and salad.

@strawberrybarn how you getting on? Beautiful day here - imagine EL is looking very pretty in the crisp autumn morning!

SilverLiningPlaybook · 27/09/2022 08:33

Thanks for the help. It just all seems a bit vague. How do yig assess portions for example? What kind of snacks are permissible? That sort of thing. It’s not rocket science to reduce portions and carbs.
I certainly need a kick up the backside with de cluttering and lifestyle changes though.

I try to walk most days and am about to join the gym. I don’t think I would do the exercises in the book.

ChocChipOwl · 27/09/2022 10:35

@SilverLiningPlaybook a day for me looks like this ...

Greek yogurt, chopped pear, oats, pumpkin seeds and a drizzle of peanut butter

Orange and a babybel

Mozzarella, tomato and avocado salad

Hot chocolate (made with dark cocoa powder and oat milk)

Quinoa with tofu and veg or roasted veg with feta

You decide your portions - sort of. You're urged to keep them 'delicate' and you can refer to any of the three books and the recipes are a little more prescriptive there

It does sound a bit vague I suppose in some ways but really, it's just sensible portions, low sugar, moderate carbs and low processed foods.

I didn't count a single calorie and lost 2 stone rarely feeling hungry (have a look at our past couple of threads for other ideas and meals that everyone is eating)

I think people return to this plan because A it works and B you feel good on it once you get into it

OP posts:
ChocChipOwl · 27/09/2022 10:37

@SilverLiningPlaybook regarding snacks. Have two a day .. any of the following

Piece of fruit with cheese

2 tablespoons mixed nuts

Ryvita with peanut butter

Apple with peanut butter

Mexican hot chocolate

There's honestly all sorts

OP posts:
ChocChipOwl · 27/09/2022 10:38

And I don't really enjoy cooking at all and never find it fiddly or complicated

It won't be for everyone that's for sure. But if you suddenly 'get it' and it clicks, you won't look back

ChocChipOwl · 27/09/2022 10:39

@Megasaur5keeper glad you found us again! I just thought we needed a new thread to keep us on the straight and narrow until Christmas. How have you been getting on?

And I know this is the most ridiculous comparison photo as it's not even bloody facing the same way but hopefully you can see how the plan has worked for me

There's 2 stone between these pics ish - I have a good stone (cough stone and a half) to go

Thanks. Sounds very much like what I did ten years ago and I lost two stones easily. I need to get back into the right mindset. You’ve done really well!

Megasaur5keeper · 27/09/2022 17:44

@ChocChipOwl hello.
Hit a wall somewhat just before I went on hol for a week- been a bit picky with stuff left on my child's plate and not really engaging with why I'm doing that. It's there? Sort of mindless eating which is not really very beautiful...
I think I was tired tbh, when we were away and out and about I was getting solid 8hrs + sleep, which has evaporated since we've been back only been 2 days... and it is harder to not eat toast when knackered.
I'm weighing in at 9st 12lb, keeping up with workouts and have added in body pump which I used to love for a change.

I think I have another solid round in me- its hard to visualise what e.g. 7 lbs more off would look like, so I'm going until I am happy with where I am I guess.
Husband has joined me so that should keep momentum

You are looking great!

ChocChipOwl · 28/09/2022 16:40

Afternoon all!

Food so far today

Porridge, peanut butter, berries, coconut yogurt and pumpkin seeds

German rye bread with hummus, light soft cheese and tomatoes

Mixed nuts and a tangerine

Deliberating dinner.. I think it'll be marinated tofu with stir fried veg

Spent a small fortune on some clothes today. Trying to stay on the straight and narrow by buying size 12s or small/ medium sizes which fit absolutely fine but absolutely won't if I put the weight back on

So that's the method behind my madness

OP posts:
Megasaur5keeper · 28/09/2022 21:28

New clothes is exciting!!!
I'm a mumsnet cliché- had a spa day yesterday which was great.
Ate a fairly standard day of food- porridge with fruit and almond butter,
Hickory smoked almonds- would not recommend- and an apple
Buratta and tomato salad at all bar one and a side of broccoli with sweet chilli sauce which was not at all what I expected
Turkey meatballs and broccoli
4 chocolate Brazil nuts

And today was
Porridge with rhubarb, hazelnuts and almond butter
Cheese and onion soufflés and an apple,
Bean and Barley soup
Cocoa almonds and raspberries
Stew and cauliflower rice . Thought it was curry when I took it out of the freezer. Oops

Got my daily walking done but that's it as I slept in. Quite deliberately...

Megasaur5keeper · 29/09/2022 21:58

Things I have eaten today

Hot smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast
Aubergine dip and half a pitta
Bean soup
3 percy pigs, which were delightful
Bean burgers and salad, avocado hummus, 2 Brazil nuts coated in chocolate and an apple and tiny piece of cheese and 1/2 tsp hazelnut butter.

Very sleep now
How's everyone else?
