It's a Monday. I'm starting back on MFP and want to be accountable. Anyone else?

I know you should start a diet whenever but I find that mentally if I start on a Monday it 'face it' with a better mindset. So this morning I started recording everything that passes my lips on MFP. Holidays are over, so no regular temptations in my way now. I feel good about it. I lost a stone and a half a year ago but then decided to be a little less strict, and now I want to drop half a stone or a stone again. I found doing CICA worked for me so I'm motivated by that now. I just wanted to post here so be accountable (to myself if nobody else). Anyone else started on their weight loss journey today?

I'll join you. Weighed in at 160 lbs this morning. Will log on MFP.

What's your weight height and goal? I'm wanting 150lbs. I'm 5 7.

IcanandIwill · 25/07/2022 22:08

I'll join. Started on MFP a few days ago. Logging calories really helps keep me on track and realise just why I weigh what I do!

PersonaNonGarter · 25/07/2022 22:20

How did it go today?

If you are still going, I might join tomorrow.

LongStoryShorty · 25/07/2022 23:00

I have just started today! I weight 127lbs and aim to be 108 or a few pounds less by the time we go on a cruise in 8months! I’m 5ft1. I am trying to do some sports at least 5 times a week, eat as healthy as I can and try to have dinner by 17.00, preferably 16 but that’s not always possible with a family. If I crave something in the evening to just have a nice herbal tea.

Good luck to all! How was your first day?

IRememberXanadu · 26/07/2022 09:30

I'm 130lbs and 5ft3. Yesterday I ate 964n calories (the first day I always find I barely eat, for some reason) although my daily limit when I'm trying to drop is 1,200.

OP posts:
IcanandIwill · 26/07/2022 12:44

Well done.

My daily calories for defecit are 1400. Have managed ok so far. Hoping I can stick with it. I like the simplicity of calorie counting.

LongStoryShorty · 26/07/2022 17:04

I haven’t bothered counting calories, maybe I will start as well. I’ve been eating well but constantly hungry today, I probably didn’t drink enough water. I have stopped eating for today so just herbal water and tea for the evening. Would be good to get in 20min on the exercise bike, but I find that hard with the baby.

LongStoryShorty · 26/07/2022 18:00

I’d like to get a really flat strong stomach, I can see people out with their really fit bellies and I just don’t know how they do it. Even when I was skinny, borderline underweight, my stomach was never so flat and strong. Nowadays there’s a lot more information out there so maybe? I have always been quite self conscious and uncomfortable in a bikini so would be nice to dear to wear one now we go on holiday.

IRememberXanadu · 27/07/2022 12:07

Yesterday I closed at 1,107 calories. I'm doing OK today too - I'm flat out with work so even though I WFH I don't have time to get up and find stuff to graze on in the kitchen!

@LongStoryShorty I'm the same - even when I was a small size 8 I never had a flat stomach, despite working out a lot with a combo of cardio and weights. I think it's genetic - some people have flat stomachs, even when they are not slim, others don't. It's a shame but I worked that out in my twenties. I'd never have a flat stomach :-(

OP posts:
LongStoryShorty · 27/07/2022 20:29

Yeah I think it probably is genetic and maybe hormonal too, as I think my stomach is flatter now than usual as I’ve had a baby 9months ago and I’m breastfeeding so not getting my cycles. I’m not getting bloated.

i’ve done well today although i ate my last meal of the day pretty late around 19, should be fine though. I bought a calendar to track any exercise and daily weights. I know there’s all the apps for it, but I think when I see it hang up it acts as a reminder and motivation.

LongStoryShorty · 28/07/2022 09:13

This morning has a great start! I’m on my way to hit the goal for the week. I’ve made a plan with as much exercise as when I was fit, which included 30min morning and evening, but the reality is I don’t know how I would ever be able to actually do those with little kids… now during the holidays should at least be able to at least do the morning exercise… how is your weight loss?

Grigorisangel · 28/07/2022 17:02

Can I join, I lost 12lbs with MFP last year but have put 5 back on, realistically I would like to be around 10 stone 4, I am 5”5 in height. I think I am 10 stone 13 at present but will weigh myself later.
I am often normally pretty good through the day but evening I think nothing of eating a whole share bar of chocolate 😬
im going away with friends for a few days in September and would love to feel better in a bikini.
MFP has set my calories to 1200 but I won’t be too strict on going over as I am pretty active and think I could realistically eat as much as 1800 and still lose a lb a week. I find the weight drops off much quicker if I run, I haven’t done any exercise for a while either so going to aim for a short 10 minute run 3 times a week plus one swimming session over the next week or so then I will slowly increase my run time.
bloat is a huge problem for me, I am coeliac and have a dairy intolerance but even when not bloated most of my weight is on my stomach so that’s my target area.
so far today I’ve had 718 calories, granola with banana and a small glass of juice for breakfast, I was out at lunch so just had a protein shake when I got home, the kids got pick n mix from the shop so I had one piece of fudge from that. Evening meal is a gluten free melt in the middle fish cake with chantenay carrots, peas and green beans (no extra carbs 😫). If I do have chocolate this evening I will aim for one snacksize bar. I am trying not to cut anything out completely as I’m more likely to fail so initially just trying to reduce and see how I go, as long as the general trend is down with weight I won’t worry too much about calories per day but logging them makes me really think about what I eat. I will try and check in each day for accountability. Good luck everyone (and sorry for the long post) x

IRememberXanadu · 28/07/2022 17:12

Yesterday I closed at just under 1,200 but that's because I had a friend over for dinner. Today I'm doing well again. I find that snacking on hard boiled eggs works very well for me (it was a tip I got from a friend) - not many calories but filling.

If I don't stay under 1,200 I don't lose. Which is a bummer but at least I know.

LongStoryShorty · 28/07/2022 18:41

welcome grigorisangel and good luck!

Thanks for the tip about the hard boiled eggs, it’s what Im having now as still feeling hungry after my carrot soup. I did my first strength training for the week, managed somehow eventho my 5 year old got stroppy and I took a break to feed my baby. I also placed a play pen in the garage so I got my cardio done on the exercise bike.

Grigorisangel · 28/07/2022 19:23

Thank you for the warm welcome 🙂
I don’t know how you do it with such young children, mine are 16 and 9 now so when we are at home they tend to entertain themselves for the most part.
I am not a fan of hard boiled eggs but do love most other kinds of eggs, I’m just trying to think up healthy breakfast/lunch ideas.
I think when I finish work tomorrow I will pick up a few healthier snack options, maybe some babybel and peanut butter so I can have it with apple slices or on toast. I’m tempted to buy some chocolate bars that are around the 100 calorie mark so I can have one each evening, if I don’t there is a risk I raid the kids chocolates but if I do I don’t know if I have the willpower to only eat one, wish I wasn’t such a greedy guts come evening.
im currently contemplating brushing my teeth now I’ve had my evening meal but it’s a while until bedtime and I probably will have a snack. Im at exactly 1100 at the minute but chocolate wise only have some snacksize snickers in and they are 181 calories which will put me slightly over for today

LongStoryShorty · 28/07/2022 20:20

Oh you are doing well if you are managing with chocolate in the house! we never have any because I would eat it straight away! 😅i did have some chocolate brownie yesterday and Monday and Tuesday. Today I haven’t actually had any sweats or chocolate. Is there anything else in the house you could have to take away your craving? My husband had some HUEL smoothies and I drank one this evening which has completely taken away my cravings, they are quite high in calories though. Maybe a herbal tea? I love drinking lots of tea in the evenings and you can get such delicious flavours.

I included the kids into the strength training but my DD got stroppy when I wouldn’t let her climb on my back while I was doing a plank… def not at that stage yet 😂i just continued exercising and she went to her room to play with dolls.

Grigorisangel · 28/07/2022 21:07

I ate a snicker, calories for today is 1281.
I’ve just come to lay in bed and watch a bit of tv, feel slightly hungry but I think it’s more habit as normally I would eat a lot more snacks in the evening. Ds16 is on his way home from work and will message me when he is almost home to put a pizza in the oven for him so I just need to resist any temptation when I do that and I will be happy. If I had to guess how many calories I ate yesterday I would say it would be more than double what I’ve eaten today, I worked until 7pm and when I came home I ate a 100g wholenut chocolate bar which was 578 calories alone then a couple of hours later I ate a bag of hula hoops and 2 snacksize chocolate bars, I had granola for breakfast, 2 waffles with beans and lots of cheese for dinner then leftover lasagna with carrots and peas warmed up at work. I am lucky really that I’m only slightly overweight, I should be the size of a house for how much junk I eat

LongStoryShorty · 28/07/2022 23:32

Probably you get away with it being taller,I def wouldn’t! Only reason I get away with eating an ice cream a day is because of breastfeeding otherwise I would just keep putting weight on. I do find though that with breastfeeding the weight drops off so quickly as long as I don’t eat too much crap and avoid eating in the evenings. She’s eating her solids really well now as well, so I think I need to make use of this and be more sensible with what I eat as will be harder to loose weight when she stops BF.

Grigorisangel · 29/07/2022 16:18

Weighed myself last night and I was 10 stone 13 as predicted.
not a bad day so far health wise but quite high calories.
I had granola with milk and a small glass of orange juice at 5:30 this morning before work (ran out of banana to go with it😞). 11am at work I had melon and peach with yogurt and a granola bar then a protein shake after work. Current total is 1227 but MFP has added 720 due to my activity level so I currently have 693 remaining technically.
fish with salad for tea today so should come well under for calories if I can go easy on the homemade potato salad.
I went for a 45 minute swim after work, no major calorie burn as I’m not fast but I go every Friday and enjoy it.
I think when I’ve finished the granola bars I have in I might try and drop them from my work food as they are over 200 calories and I think the fruit and yogurt would be enough to see me through and I might try and think of a filling, quick but lower calorie breakfast as granola with banana is using around 500 calories which is a lot but then again I do need something filling before work 🤷🏻‍♀️. Hoping to stay easy on the chocolate today and just have a snack size bar in the evening if I really need one.
hope everyone else is doing well x

LongStoryShorty · 29/07/2022 21:42

I def failed with my eating today! The food I had was healthy as I had lentil soup and salmon and green veg for dinner but I ate a whole tony’s chocolonely bar! Terrible… don’t think I will weigh myself in the morning as I don’t want it to demotivate me. I did well with exercise though as I did 20min on the bike and 1hr walk from which I jogged 20min. Hopefully I can do better during the weekend. I wish getting fit was 80% exercise and 20% diet and I wouldn’t struggle so much 🙄chocolate is definitely my weakness but I really just want to get ride of all the belly fat I have, for both health and fitness reasons… i guess if I could give it up for two weeks it will be easier after that. As that’s how long they say for the ravings to stop. I do know a healthy recipe for ‘chocolate’ made with nuts dates and coocnut oil and raw cocoa powder. I can share the recipe if someone wants. Anyone wanting to stop chocolate with me for two weeks?

Grigorisangel · 30/07/2022 15:13

i am exactly the same, chocolate is definitely my weakness. I’m not at all bothered by sweets or crisps but can’t go a day without chocolate and struggle to regulate how much I eat. If I open a 200g bar I hardly ever save any for a later date.
I did put just one fruit and nut bar on my food shop this week, the aim is to go against all my regular urges and make it last me the whole weekend rather than just one night then it’s back to just a snack size one through the week.
good day so far but I am finding that when I’m working it’s quite hard to stick to 1200 calories. I worked 6am to 2pm today. Had granola with banana at 5:30, fruit with yogurt and a nut bar at 11 then I’ve just had a 2 egg omelette with beans when I got home. Tea tonight is curry which is high in calories but rather than chicken I’m going to make roasted cauliflower and add a few cooked new potatoes I’ve got left in the fridge. I will try to keep the rice and chips to a small portion and I never have naan as don’t like gluten free ones. I’ve eaten 1222 so far but earned an extra 455 from being active at work.
My main aim is to be much more mindful of the food I’m eating, up the fruit and veg intake and lower the chocolate to a much smaller amount and although I haven’t stuck to 1200 calories yet I haven’t been far off and it’s been much healthier food.
im planning to try and get back into exercise this weekend so will go for a run tomorrow morning. I haven’t been for ages so if I can do 10 minutes I will be pleased.

LongStoryShorty · 30/07/2022 17:14

I have done ok so far. We went to a birthday party and so I ate some bbq food which wasn’t healthy, but I didn’t eat too much and didn’t have cake but I ate half a donut. Now maki a spicy chicken salad. And then will do my training.

Grigorisangel · 30/07/2022 20:42

Wow that’s some strong willpower @LongStoryShorty Huge well done.
im way over on calories today, I’ve eaten half the chocolate I bought and have ended at 2365 😳 according to my watch I’ve burned 2361 so I’ve about broken even 😆
hopefully I motivate myself to go for a run tomorrow as that’s the main thing that will help me lose the belly weight

LongStoryShorty · 30/07/2022 22:21

@Grigorisangel only because it wasn’t chocolate cake 😂

Grigorisangel · 31/07/2022 10:17

Ha ha chocolate cake is extremely hard to resist.
I got up and went for my first run this morning, wasn’t far or fast but I’m happy I did it. Thought I had set my watch to track but hadn’t so have no idea of any stats.
weighted myself after my run and before I had eaten or drank for the day and I am down 4lb to 10 stone 9 🙂 I will add my original weight in was in the evening which may have skewed the results. I will weight in the morning from now on to keep it consistent and I’m sure I’m much lighter at 8am then 8pm
I’m not going to worry too much about Sundays but try and make healthy choices, we always go to family or out to a pub for dinner. Going to my mums today for a roast dinner, I always get made a gluten free Yorkshire pudding for myself, it’s never small and I always eat it all with loads of gravy and I don’t plan to stop that, there is often lots of chocolate and sweets handed around in the afternoon and a nice dessert later on although it is normally fruit based. I will try to resist the chocolate or just have a little but will enjoy myself.
hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend x
