Lose 3 stone over the summer?

Fatgirlslim35 · 16/07/2022 21:39

I know this is a lot but I have 6-7 stone to lose so I'm hoping it will come off quickly if I'm very focused. I work in a school so I have the next 6 weeks off and I want to make a huge difference to my weight by the time I go back in September.

Is this a crazy amount to set as a goal, or doable at my current size? Any tips?

I'm thinking of a pretty monotonous approach so I don't have to think about it too much, maybe replacing one meal with a slim fast shake, salad with something like tuna or chicken every day for dinner, healthy breakfast (something like special k or porridge made with water), snack on apples and other low calorie fruits like berries if I'm hungry.

I don't know if I'll feel much like exercising but I'm going to try to walk and swim lots. At the moment I'm not walking much because I'm so uncomfortable and my fitness has spiralled to a point where I feel like an amorphous blob, so it's a case of starting with what I can manage and building from there.

If anyone has any success stories to share or wants to join me, please do!

Three stone is a lot but you could make a good dent in six weeks! I've got about 4 stine to lose so happy to join you?

TheNinthLock · 16/07/2022 22:04

I have three stone to lose. I’d be happy with two!
I work in a primary school too and we break up on Friday.
I'll join you!

Voiceofreason92 · 16/07/2022 22:58

Primary school teacher here! I’ll join you too.
My goal is to go for a long walk every day. If I do it in the morning- i’m hoping i’ll be in the frame of mind to stick to a diet for the rest of the day.

Cornishmaiden · 17/07/2022 08:19

Primary teacher here too and I would love to join in. I have lost 3 stone in the last year but really need to lose another stone so have said that my new regime will start Mon 25th. I am aiming to walk the dog for an hour each morning about 8 am and hopefully have a swim in the afternoon. This will be a lot of exercise for me, so hoping that will help alongside healthy eating.
Just got to get through this last week in school!

Herewegoagain1278 · 17/07/2022 08:24

That works out at 7lbs a week so not really achievable. Try doing 800 cal diet for a week to give you a good kick start then stick to 1200 cal diet for the rest of the time. Up your water and start moving. There is some good Zumba videos on you. Good luck

MeatballMeatball · 17/07/2022 08:29

My sister lost 2 stone in 6 weeks, then lost another 5 over the year. She started eating loads of vegetables, so protein, measured carb and 1/2 plate of veg. And walking for at least a hour every morning. She know does 20,000 steps a day.looks great.

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 17/07/2022 08:35

I work in a school too so I'm off for the next 6 weeks, I'm joining slimming world on Thursday and hoping to make a big dent in my weight before back to school!!

Getintoyou · 17/07/2022 08:37

I have similar dreams! Break up this week and need to lose 2 stone. I need to get my life back. I'm desperately unhappy and stressed and will be job hunting, so need to look good and feel confident.

bettybyebye · 17/07/2022 08:38

3 stone is a lot but you can definitely make huge progress in six weeks.

  • drink 3 litres water a day

  • min 10k steps a day

  • 7-9 hours sleep per night

  • increase your protein intake

  • fruit/veg (but mainly veg) with every meal

  • work out your TDEE and make sure you are in a calorie deficit

  • weight training

good luck!
all the above has helped me to lose the stone I needed, plus lots of inches!

Thank you, definitely taking these on board. It's all simple stuff but I know it works - just need to remember it and make it a priority.

Good luck, you can do it. I know that feeling all too well. Summer reset - by September we will feel so much better.

It is a crazy goal but I think 2 stone is totally doable.
Can I join you? I’d like to lose 2.5 stone by end of maternity leave in mid November. I’ve 6 stone to lose overall.
I’m calorie counting on MFP, given myself 1800 to start with as BF but only needing 1550-1650 to feel satisfied. I had a pie last night and stayed under so pretty pleased with that Grin Will do a brisk walk with the pram daily.

I’ve now left education for a career break but I still consider my life in ‘terms’ 😁so I always want to do something during the summer holidays! I’m joining you :)

Fatgirlslim35 · 17/07/2022 12:56

Fab, so there's quite a few of us. I definitely need to do the 10,000 steps thing (from Wednesday so I don't keel over in the heat). Very impressed by your sister @MeatballMeatball .

Other than Slimming World, is anyone going to follow any particular plan?

I once did the special diet that's meant for people to lose weight before surgery and that was a very effective short-term boost... but all the instructions say you have to follow it to the letter to get the right 'chemical' effect and I'm on SSRIs so can't have grapefruit. Not sure if it's worth doing for a week anyway, substituting melon or something. It's mainly lots of eggs, from memory.

Cornishmaiden · 17/07/2022 15:10

I must admit that my weight loss is down to following Slimming World extra easy but I have given up going to classes. I know what to do...it is just the doing it that is tricky. When you begin to see the scales go down it does keep you motivated.
Keep going until the end of term and then some time to focus on feeling better.
I did find some great yoga workouts on you tube for the over 50s (I am nearly 57) but it is too hot for those atm.

Cait73 · 17/07/2022 15:14

I think a loss of 7lbs a week is highly ambitious, I lost 4 stone in 6 months that was considered "quick" I've put most of it back on!

GnusSitOnCanoes · 17/07/2022 17:00

@Herewegoagain1278 Are there any Zumba workouts on YouTube you’d recommend? I really struggle to find good ones, for some reason.

millytint44 · 17/07/2022 17:21

It's terrible how special k is marketed as a slimming aid.... it's probably one of the worst things you could eat for breakfast.

Eggs are definitely your best choice for breakfast.

D0lphine · 17/07/2022 17:28

I have some time off between jobs this summer (I know, great timing, well done me!) and would like to make a really good dent.

I also have a wedding in a months time that I'd like to feel a bit more confident for.

Thinking of replacing one meal with a shake just for simplicity (maybe lunch?) then doing a veg omelette for breakfast and a high protein dinner. Upping the steps, no booze and no crap!

Miajk · 17/07/2022 17:34

I don't want to be mean, but this sounds like a quick fix that will not work long term.

You lose three stone and then what? You didn't get to the weight you are now because you didn't drink slimfast shakes. There are obviously some big, long term changes needed in everyday habits, that you can keep forever.

95% diets fail and it's because so many people approach it like this. I'd highly recommend sitting down to think which habits you need to address and resolving this before even thinking about measurable weight outcomes, if you seriously want to lose the weight.

I've been in your position and until I stopped fads and quick fixes I wasn't able to lose and maintain weight. It's so much better now that I focused on changing my lifestyle sustainably. Good luck x

Lougle · 17/07/2022 17:38

I've lost 1.5 stone in 10 weeks, but didn't have much to lose in the first place. Low carb, high fat, moderate protein, increased water intake. The next Bootcamp starts next Monday. Perhaps join us?
