Lose 3 stone over the summer?

Fatgirlslim35 · 16/07/2022 21:39

I know this is a lot but I have 6-7 stone to lose so I'm hoping it will come off quickly if I'm very focused. I work in a school so I have the next 6 weeks off and I want to make a huge difference to my weight by the time I go back in September.

Is this a crazy amount to set as a goal, or doable at my current size? Any tips?

I'm thinking of a pretty monotonous approach so I don't have to think about it too much, maybe replacing one meal with a slim fast shake, salad with something like tuna or chicken every day for dinner, healthy breakfast (something like special k or porridge made with water), snack on apples and other low calorie fruits like berries if I'm hungry.

I don't know if I'll feel much like exercising but I'm going to try to walk and swim lots. At the moment I'm not walking much because I'm so uncomfortable and my fitness has spiralled to a point where I feel like an amorphous blob, so it's a case of starting with what I can manage and building from there.

If anyone has any success stories to share or wants to join me, please do!

I don't want to be mean, but this sounds like a quick fix that will not work long term.

You lose three stone and then what? You didn't get to the weight you are now because you didn't drink slimfast shakes. There are obviously some big, long term changes needed in everyday habits, that you can keep forever.

95% diets fail and it's because so many people approach it like this. I'd highly recommend sitting down to think which habits you need to address and resolving this before even thinking about measurable weight outcomes, if you seriously want to lose the weight.

I've been in your position and until I stopped fads and quick fixes I wasn't able to lose and maintain weight. It's so much better now that I focused on changing my lifestyle sustainably. Good luck x

You're not being mean but tbh... I do know this and believe me I know which habits are the problem. Sustainable change is the goal but I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a jump start on actually losing weight and feeling. Having six weeks is a defined period of time so it feels psychologically doable and motivating and hopefully will help me build up some fitness. It's not going to solve the issue of me comfort eating but I do find the bigger I am the more it seems pointless or impossible to try and be healthy. I think there's a place for short term dieting as well as long term changes.

Feeling better about myself, that was meant to say. Smile

Thanks @Lougle , I don't find low carb high fat works for me but I will definitely be cutting down on carbs and eating more protein.

It's terrible how special k is marketed as a slimming aid.... it's probably one of the worst things you could eat for breakfast.

Eggs are definitely your best choice for breakfast.

You're right actually... it's not very filling and I guess maybe not actually that healthy. I can't face eggs in the morning but I think porridge would be a good choice for me.

How's everyone coping with the heat? I'm going to weigh in tomorrow (end of term) and set my target based on that.

I have the worlds healthiest Tesco shop coming today. All fruit veg and tofu. DH is going to be devastated Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/07/2022 10:00

My local hospital has the slimming world support and they have sent me a code to get 12 weeks free membership.
I've done ww before with good results but want to do something different. So I'm calling them later and going to my first class this pm.
14st today. I'd like to drop as much as I can in the 6 and a half weeks before we go back to school in sept.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/07/2022 10:02

The heat is oppressive isnt it? We are v lucky and finished on friday so not having to bear it in my sweltering classroom.
Thinking about all those who are still working in the heat!

Oh well done! What a nice virtuous feeling too.

@DrMadelineMaxwell I think Slimming World is pretty good actually, don't like the meetings so I decided against it this time but it works well as a system for eating pretty 'normally'. I avoid all the weird zero calorie things that taste of chemicals though.

Ah we’ve just had the what’s for tea negotiation.
“Salad, or veg?”
”baked beans”
“I could do a stir fry or grilled Mediterranean veg or steamed tenderstem”
”……want beans”
Hmm

Fatgirlslim35 · 19/07/2022 19:38

How was your meeting @DrMadelineMaxwell

Bodmas I couldn't face baked beans in this weather, salad sounds far more appealing!

i've eaten more today than usual though

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/07/2022 20:45

Closest meeting is just round the corner from my house but isnt until Thursday so I've redeemed the code over the phone and arranged to go to that class. Looking forward to it.

Too hot to eat much anyway today. I've had some crackers for lunch, some gyozas for tea and 2 ice lollies.

wonderfullife123 · 19/07/2022 22:54

Can I join you? I need to focus and lose 2 stone- started SW today. 6 weeks is a good manageable time for a kick start. We can do this!

That's amazing! How did you do it? Do you find it gets easier over time to stick with being healthy?

I'll join or follow along! I need to work out why I can't shift my weight, the last couple of months I really haven't been eating much, just not much appetite, maybe cereal in the morning and one meal in the evening but the weight stubbornly remains. The meals aren't brilliant (oven pizza that sort of thing) but would be well under daily calorie amounts if I were calorie counting! Just need to go back to the drawing board I think! It's frustrating because I can see that my face is starting to lose weight and I think my thighs but my stomach remains stubbornly rotund and wobbling. Pre kids it was my best feature, ironing board flat and perfect hourglass. Sigh. Thanks enormous baby no 1 and gargantuan baby no 2 for destroying all my stomach muscles underneath the flab

What I really struggle with is a quick no prep breakfast that's going to fill me up! Things are manic round here in the mornings and I just don't have the time or headspace to be doing eggs etc. and if I start making porridge my DCs will start clamouring for it which slows us down while they eat and delays us getting out the house to the bloody breakfast club where they're supposed to have their breakfast! Not at home just because they see me having some!

I'm also about to start the six week holiday and I'm going to a new school in Sept so would love to start there feeling more confident and with some better habits!

Breakfasts and packed lunches are definitely my nemesis though-all tips welcome! And um, quick prep dinner as well. Im really not great in the kitchen. I can cook but I find it so boring and time consuming, hence reaching for something I can just pop on an oven tray! Im waiting to be officially diagnosed with ADHD so it is a whole executive dysfunction 'thing' but does mean that food shortcuts are both my saviour and my downfall!

GirlInACountrySong · 19/07/2022 23:52

@Fatgirlslim35 ah I guess you could say I'm cheating and throwing some money at the situation. I've been taking saxenda via private prescription.

Got enough going on with menopause and just want the weight gone quickly. Started in April

Tried slimming world before but this time it's saxenda weight loss liraglutide injections combined with calorie deficit and moving around more

GirlInACountrySong · 19/07/2022 23:53

I just don't feel hungry. I stick to the lower dose and it's amazing how it just reduces appetite.

Getintoyou · 20/07/2022 07:06

Well I broke up from work and just cried and cried. It's been a horrible half term and food became my friend. Day 1 today but I know I'm going to struggle. Time to de-stress and look to the future!

Start:
5' 8"
13 stone 12lbs
BMI 29.4

I have put on 6lbs in the last 2 weeks 😪

FlamingGoat · 20/07/2022 07:18

I would like to join you. I've two stone to lose. I have to eat gluten free aswell which is a bit of an expensive kicker due to diverticular disease.
My HRT makes me want to scoff sweet stuff all the time!!!
I run three times a week and recently completed a few half marathons and still I'm pushing 12 stone. The more depressed I get about it the more I want cake etc and I get stuck in a vicious circle.
What helps me most is menu ideas , quick ones as work long shifts.

whattodo2019 · 20/07/2022 07:35

800cal diet for 12 weeks

wonderfullife123 · 20/07/2022 07:46

@Getintoyou it's a horrible feeling but looking ahead with positivity will give us success. Have a good day 1.

I set my alarm and am just about to go to the gym. Starting as I mean to go on.

Menopause has been a killer for me but wine has also been my downfall. Absolutely ridiculous drinking and eating habits so I know exactly what I've done wrong.

rongon · 21/07/2022 07:20

Can I join? Day 1 of school holidays and I'm creeping up towards my heaviest ever.
Ideally I'd like to lose 21lbs over the summer (10% if my current weight) but even if I could lose a stone it would be an improvement.
I'm going to give low carving a go. It has worked for years ago and I think it will be easier with days out in the summer.
Hope everyone has had a good start.
