@poorpaws what as shock for you !
Ask about cardiac rehab programme - there should be one at your local hospital, most MI patients are encouraged to start rehab/exercise
www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/activity/first-exercise-steps

BeyondMyWits · 29/10/2022 14:24

@Theredjellybean that is the cardiac rehab program I did, really, really helpful... I'm still here... 4years 11 months and 2 days on...

@poorpaws ... remember the date of your "episode" , every health professional from now til forever will ask when, (and how it presented.)

poorpaws · 29/10/2022 14:45

Thank you for all your advice. @Theredjellybean I'll ask about that, thank you.

@BeyondMyWits I've got the date imprinted on my brain. I've already realised I missed things out when talking to my GP 🙈. I'm just so stupid. I told GP I had just done a 2.1/2 hour dog walk (said nothing new there, been doing it for 10 years). I also said it happened at the bottom of my steps and that I hadn't walked up them. I forgot to say I'd just walked up different steps and a steep slope and the narrow lane we walked up was very steep. He asked me about swollen ankles, I said no. Friend reminded me they were very swollen earlier on in the year, I completely forgot. Also omitted my horrible headaches which I've been suffering from for months. I'm hopeless! I'll try to do better with my cardiology telephone appointment.

Thank you so much for your concern everyone. I'm doing much shorter walks on the flat (well as flat as I can find here).

Sorry I've just realised I'm taking over a dieting thread with heart problems.

I've made two batches of parsnip soup for the freezer and cooked six chicken breasts so that I can eat healthily. I've also bought fruit for my Christmas cake (yes @BeyondMyWits I intend to be year in 5 years time too and I'm definitely still going to be here this Christmas). I was quite surprised how much things like dates, figs, Apricots, glace cherries had gone up in price.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Oh my goodness @poorpaws🙁 I've just ventured onto this thread for the first time in weeks - months in fact - and you've gone and had a heart attack. I'm so very sorry to hear this. I'm also relieved that you're doing ok and that you're being so positive. What a shock for you though.

I won't bang on too much about how things haven't been going for me food and exercise wise. Suffice it to say, we now have an upstairs which we didn't have before. Three months on and it's not completely finished. In fact the disruption seems to be worse at the moment as the kitchen floor is being re-tiled after having one of the walls moved. I have eaten the biggest load of old crap. The exercise has fallen off a cliff. And I'm a nervous wreck! Hoping to try and get back on track after the half term break (which has only just started here in NI😬😬)

Good to still see a few familiar names and some new ones too!

BeyondMyWits · 29/10/2022 16:33

I cooked up loads from the freezer this week to make way for Christmas food. (I host, so is easy to limit my intake). Made cottage pies with the quorn mince, chicken and broccoli casserole, chicken curry, and meat free (heart healthy) sausage casserole for our meals during the week.

Went down well, and helped avoid takeaways which are so easy to go for when I cover others' shifts til 6pm (I'm very much an only work morning person!).

poorpaws · 29/10/2022 19:36

@ClinkeyMonkey <waves> lovely to have you back. I'm so pleased to hear the house renovation is continuing, albeit slowly. It will be so worth it when it's finished.

If you can't stay here permanently please keep popping back, we go back a long way 😁. I'm ok, feeling positive and fighting hard.

@Theredjellybean well done you, you have every reason to be happy, I'd shout it from the rooftops. I am so pleased for you, it's such a great achievement ⭐️

Well done @Theredjellybean , nice when it's going the right direction...

not looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in for me... never do, but if I stop doing it I'll just give up and eat my weight in junk!

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/10/2022 19:02

I've had a rather substantial amount of Indian food this afternoon which, although delicious, I am beginning to regret 😂. The offer caught me off guard a bit. So lesson to learn is to be always on guard or just have a small portion.😔

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 31/10/2022 08:07

Good morning! Do you mind if I join you, please? I think I posted once under a different name on the thread before this one, but then just quietly went off the rails. It's time I started again. I weigh too much, I need to lose a lot! For me, it's all in the mindset and willpower, to stop me eating and drinking too much. It's not the actual food I eat, if you see what I mean (though I definitely do better with low-carb choices), it's the amount. I also find intermittent fasting, 2 meals a day, works best for me. I do very little exercise as I have a bad body back and what I assume is arthritis in my joints. I'm nearer 70 than 60 and most my life, I've worked on the "eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die" principle, which I got away with, staying slim until my late thirties! Now, not so much!
I'm not comfortable with posting my actual weight at the moment, so will just do weekly weigh-ins, if that's OK. I'm starting again, today. I figure I need to lose 8 kilos to get my BMI from obese to overweight. I'll start with that, and aim to lose gently rather than all in one go!
I am sorry to read that you are having heart problems, @poorpaws. I do wish you well and I hope that the tablets start working well for you. Take it easy, as they say.

poorpaws · 31/10/2022 08:09

@BeyondMyWits don't stop, please don't stop, that's the road to ruin. The whole point of this thread is to support the strugglers and those who at times face a diet fail. This thread keeps us on track for the most part but without it I for one would be face down in the giant hole of sweet rubbish.

As you all know I've had quite a week this week. I've tried to stay on track with my eating but had quite a fail on Saturday night and I've done a lot less walking. I have managed to lose 1.1/4 pounds, which I'm very surprised at but quite delighted.

Have a good weigh-in everyone, I'm looking forward to seeing your results.

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom welcome back. Don't scuttle off at the first sign of a failure, you won't lose weight that way. Stay with us even through the bad gains, there is only support here, we don't judge. If you don't feel confident enough to tell us your weight that's absolutely fine because next week you'll weigh less anyway 😀. There are some very lovely, special people here, we all help each other.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 31/10/2022 08:21

@poorpaws - well done on that weight loss, despite your current difficulties!
Thank you for the kind welcome. I will definitely stick around from now on, though I don't know how much I'll post daily/weekly, I'll make it an aim to post my loss (or gain) on Mondays!

BeyondMyWits · 31/10/2022 08:30

I'm definitely on a plateau... 15st6lb... still... oh well. Need to reevaluate my middle of the day food I think. Breakfast I'm fine, keeps me going till lunchtime. But then at lunchtime I've got in the habit of snack lunching... a cup of soup/salad (would be good if I stopped there!), but then some crisps, chocolate biscuits etc... so am trying to go for a sandwich or something that breaks the "extras" habit.

TalkToTheHand123 · 31/10/2022 09:41

Welcome @Jaichangecentfoisdenom 😊.

I agree @BeyondMyWits it's important to keep checking in regardless! I'm a bit miffed as for the last few weeks I seem to be stuck between 14 and a half and 15 stone. If I don't keep going though, I'll likely end going back up to 16 or more or at a quicker rate!

I've upped my light exercises though on a night time and prepared myself as best I can for any more takeaway offers. 😊

I'm going to start doing gentle tummy clenches during shifts as well as need to try something to get going again.😊

Zebracat · 31/10/2022 09:53

I’ve gone backup to 101 kilos. Damn you scales! Pleased I weighed though, I nearly chickened out. We had guests all week, and so we had lunch out and special food etc. I’m not too upset about that, managed it quite well, and this is about getting to a healthy weight and staying there for life, rather than racing to a target and then going back to the pies. But the biscuit tin has started to come out for every hot drink , and that cannot happen.
youngest comes back from her 1st term at Uni tomorrow for Reading week. More special food. Target is to stay at 101.

TalkToTheHand123 · 31/10/2022 23:25

Aww @Zebracat . Hang in there!

Managed to get upstairs an hour before usual for the second night in the row and also do some light exercises. Thought I'd only have the motivation to do a couple of mins but ended up doing nearl an hour. I can hardly lift my arms now 😂

Teenage girl next door has been screaming last couple of hours. Lots of banging around too. 😯

Happy Halloween everyone. Don't eat too many sweets.🎃

BeyondMyWits · 01/11/2022 14:59

Oops, the warning came too late... I ate way too many sweets... 😊

TalkToTheHand123 · 01/11/2022 20:58

Aww @BeyondMyWits . Much left in stock?😯

I didn't buy any for Halloween, was offered a pizza by my mam tonight but there wasn't any left 😂.

BeyondMyWits · 02/11/2022 15:40

We had quite a few sweets left, but I reckon one binge is better than it spread over a week.
So no more...

poorpaws · 02/11/2022 18:17

If eating was an Olympic sport I certainly would win gold this week. ☹️😱. I'm putting it down to not being allowed to do much. If DP tells me to rest one more time I swear I will have lost a lot of weight by next week digging up the patio.

OP posts:
BeyondMyWits · 02/11/2022 18:28

Lol @poorpaws... he is right that rest is important, but so is a bit of what my doctor called "general pootling about"... nothing too strenuous, but need to keep moving a bit because you don't want muscle loss to add to the issues. (I think digging would be a bit much right now, so he's safe for a bit!)

TalkToTheHand123 · 02/11/2022 23:13

What have you been eating while you have been housebound @poorpaws ?

I've been in most of the day so made a big batch of soup to help avoid major binging on noodles and toasties🤭.

I found doing a lot of relaxation / meditation / mindfulness exercised helped to lose weight when I was quite into it and had no motivation for exercise.

poorpaws · 03/11/2022 08:21

@TalkToTheHand123 I'm tying to get to grips with my new air fryer (my gas oven is useless) so I've been using it a lot. I'm ok with jacket potatoes and chicken, fish, burgers, fish cakes etc but I love to bake. Yesterday I made a lemon meringue pie in it, not perfect (too sweet as I miscalculated the sugar) but ok and then I kept eating it to see how I could improve it 🙈 so that was a ton of calories.

I really need a new cooker but all the gas ones have bad reviews. I'd like a dual fuel one but it would mean running an electricity cable a long way and DP says it would cost a lot on top of buying the cooker. I've also bought a combi microwave and then found out cakes aren't too good in that either. I suppose someone is telling me not to eat cake.

@BeyondMyWits
I was home alone yesterday evening when I had the heart flutters for the first time. It was a bit scary being the first time but I used my spray and sat quietly until I went to bed. I assume it gets easier and you get more used to them. I don't frighten easily but I really didn't like it.

These heart problems are out of the blue and I can't get my head around what's happening to me. No heart trouble in my family afaik. I assume you had these flutters too, how did you cope?

I hope everyone is doing ok. I'm out for a meal with SIL tonight, I really do need a change of company from DP. 😬
