Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

@raspberrymeringue Sorry to read you had a tough day yesterday. Alls not lost. Don’t let a bad day become a bad week/month. To be honest 4 squares in isolation is not enough to undo any good work you’ve done. Put it behind you, plan and reset your intentions.

@Lizsmum Congratulations 👏 🎉 👏 Well done!

Afternoon Ladies 🙂

@TryingAgain2022 Every bit helps. I also monitor stair climbs too but cant do too many due to back issues. Fingers crossed you bust your 3K step count Star

Welcome back @GonnaGetGoingReturns Is your thyroid medicated? The only tips I have is not to overeat (easier said than done I know) as our metabolisms are up against it. Also try to eat fresh unprocessed foods/anti-inflammatory foods. Sorry I don't have more advice.

@ImALittlePea step away from the crisps! No seriously if you really want them have them but thoroughly enjoy them without guilt and remorse.

My thyroid is medicated! 150mg. Thyroids are tricky things!

I'm now 11 stone 3 lb down from 11 stone 6 lb.

Dinner yesterday:- cod fishcake in sauce, half small boiled potato and broccoli/carrots.

Lunch was remaining quarter of Higgidy Pie with small portion rice and spinach.

Snacks: 1 peach and 2 apricots and 2 small Cadburys Snack choc squares and found 1 small Kinder chocolate bar and had 2 tiny choc eggs - oops!

This morning - Special K, 75g blueberries with skimmed milk

Planned lunch: Quorn picnic eggs x 2, small portion of rice and salad of cucumber/tomatoes/lettuce.

What does everyone think about sugar in fruit and cutting it down? I kind of do it for 5 a day but no use if it's making me gain weight! Well actually checking 17 calories for 1 apricot and 58 for peach it makes me feel better, plus had peach before I left work and had water on bus.

My steps are up more on 2 days a week in work. And try to do a Body Project Cardio class every other day - did intermediate to advanced one on Sunday night.

@SanFranBear - where are you for the River Avon? SIL's relatives live in Bath, her brother and his DW and DC relocated there over lockdown and I know Bradford on Avon very well as used to holiday there!

TheRealHousewife · 07/07/2022 10:29

@GonnaGetGoingReturns Yes I agree thyroids are tricky things! As you know thyroid disease is autoimmune in nature and generally coexists with other autoimmune diseases, such as endometriosis and coeliac both of which I suffer.
There are no easy answers and the medical profession doesn’t seem very sympathetic (not in my postcode anyway).
We are up against it and that’s why I advocate for self care and doing the very best we can about the stuff we can control such as diet and exercise (when able to).
In regards to fruit intake it varies so much from fruit to fruit. They are not all equal. On occasion I have an apple or a pear (moderate sugar but loads of beneficial fibre) but mostly have raspberries, strawberries & blueberries which are at the lower end sugar wise. Talking of ‘5 a day’ … I read a comment by a GP that the ‘5’ was chosen as it looked the most appealing on diagrams/posters 🤷‍♀️. It actually advocated by Professor Tim Spector that try to get in 30 varieties of fruit, veg, herbs & spices in a week. That might seem excessive but it is easily doable if you cook from scratch. It’s great for your gut biome and general health and well being.

You really are a fountain of all knowledge @TheRealHousewife - thank you for sharing. I really do appreciate it. Agree with OP that only 4 squares chocolate is nothing @raspberrymeringue so don't fret

Great loss @Lizsmum & @GonnaGetGoingReturns

Thinking of you today @ginsparkles

Interesting re thyroid! I don't think I'm coeliac or have endometriosis though! Self care is good.

I might try to have an apple or pear - funnily enough we get those (pears are always hard!) free at work! I also have raspberries but they can be hard to transport to work!

I did get those Nak'd bars (variety pack) as well as some Sunbites multi-pack - just in case I needed something to take out and about.

I now either need to offload some Chloe's Chocolate Wafer Rolls and a packet of Walkers Thai Sensations Crisps plus some meringue and squirty cream which I took home from when I arranged my DM's surprise party! Can't have those tempting me!

@buzzofthebumblebee - thanks! Funnily enough I don't think I've lost that much and think it's been since Saturday maybe? I have a Prosecco birthday afternoon tea on Sunday though and alcohol before/after so should I be really strict now/after and cut down on Friday/Sunday and exercise more?

@ginsparkles - thinking of you re DDog - never an easy decision to make about a pet.

CrimsonAlligator · 07/07/2022 12:26

Afternoon all! I’ve not been very good at posting this last week or indeed eating healthily . In my defence we had two birthdays in a single week, so healthy eating was a bit of a challenge. Now that that’s all out of the way, I’m ready to try again!

@GonnaGetGoingReturns I’m personally not too worried about fruit in sugar, but if you are, as well as the lower sugar fruits recommended by @TheRealHousewife , you could also try having fruit with something else, as that can help to slow down how fast the sugar is absorbed. For example, I like to have a little bit of peanut butter with my apples, overnight oats with berries, and a bit of goats cheese with cherries. Obviously that increases the overall calories, but also makes the snack a lot more satisfying.

Speaking of fruit, I harvested 3 kg of cherries from my morello cherry tree yesterday. They’re incredibly tasty, but also incredibly sour. I’ll have fun trying to work out what to do with those. Ideally that won’t involve baking lots of cakes 😂

ImALittlePea · 07/07/2022 12:41

Funnily enough @TheRealHousewife, I find that my motivation dips more when I've not been as 'on it'. When I'm sticking to plan I'm generally far less tempted to jack it in.

I mentioned risotto to DH and he pointed me to the meal plan - apparently that's not what we're having tonight 🤦‍♀️ we're having potato croquettes, a veggie lattice thingy from Aldi, and veg. I might rebel and do risotto anyway if the kids go to bed nicely.

Well done to you @Lizsmum and everyone else who weighed yesterday!

@CrimsonAlligator - good point re the fruit with something else. I usually have cheese (but small amount now) with the apple but will try with peanut butter.

And will think about overnight oats with berries.

I'm envious of your morello cherry tree! To be honest I'd make lower sugar/lower fat muffins or put in a healthier crumble mix or claufouti maybe or even just cook and use as a compote and so on.

TheRealHousewife · 07/07/2022 14:02

@CrimsonAlligator Good point 👍 Yes I agree … I forgot add that you can off set how quickly we absorb sugar/carbs from fruit by adding a fat/protein. Although I generally have fruit with a main rather than a stand alone snack. Or chopped up with other fruits and have a small amount of fresh cream/Greek yoghurt. The cherries sound delish. Our cherry tree was stripped by the birds. We are netting next year 😬

@ImALittlePea Hope you find yourself back on it soon 😊

@buzzofthebumblebee I absorbed some knowledge when working but I carry on studying/ researching etc. I’ve look into doing a formal qualification in nutrition but as a stand alone it’s quite expensive.

I just had the remainder of a small Greek honey yogurt with portion of raspberries as popping out later and then a bit of lower fat cheese... oops.

@TheRealHousewife - the nutritionist/dietician company I saw and was going to use (Dietician Fit) - they're all highly qualified but they do charge for it. They seem one of the best companies out there though with good results.

Lizsmum · 07/07/2022 15:19

In the pre diabetic programme I've ben advised to only have 2 portions of fruit a day, which I find very difficult. But as a portion of raspberries is 80g I can spread it out over 2 meals. I know berries are better than other fruit but with the delicious nectarines and apricots that are around at the moment I'm not investigating too deeply.

TheRealHousewife · 07/07/2022 15:24

@Lizsmum at the end of the day I'd say any fruit that's full of fibre and natural sugars is a far better choice than a big bar of chocolate or big fat fresh cream cake 😬

B-Porridge made with water, blueberries, yoghurt
L- salad with sauerkraut and small amount of feta(weird mix but I like all sorts of weirdness in my salads. Apple, 2 small clementines
D- Not hungry but might have an omelette later.

Benjispruce4 · 07/07/2022 16:27

Re diabetes and fruit. It’s different if you’re prediabetic or diabetic. No one gets diabetes from eating whole fruits and veg as part of a healthy diet. It’s the extra crap that needs to be culled.

ginsparkles · 07/07/2022 16:36

Thanks all, food has completely gone to pot today. We took her for a walk, and some treats. She's now at peace and I'm devastated

Hello all and congrats to all of you WoW'ibg yesterday.. some really encouraging stats and losses, well done!

I had an evening out in Salisbury, GottaGetGoing so it was the Hampshire River Avon, not the main one, but I love walking beside water - its so peaceful and always loads of wildlife!

Unfortunately, my WoW didn't go according to plan as there was a major road closure so instead of me starting my walk with a two and a half hour window, I had just over an hour so ended up on a much shorter route - beautiful but not as satisfying! Another reason I wanted a decent walk in was so I could eat lots of Mexican food guilt free.. I still ate loads (you can't say no to a steak burrito!) so was significantly over my totals for the day. Its been a bit of a tricky week so if I STS tomorrow, that'll be a significant win!

Massive virtual hugs to you, Gin. I hope today has gone as well as it could!

LizsMum - it's my favourite fruit season at the moment but that's because I adore strawberries and they are always phenomenal this time of year! And raspberries... and blackberries... ooh, and cherries! Gah - I love berries!

What an interesting field of study, RealHousewife... there's still so much to learn - I think you'd be ace at it.

Sorry not to namecheck everyone - feels like life is running away from me but you're all fabulous, you can all hit your goals this week and let's all drink lots of water!

SanFranBear · 07/07/2022 16:44

Cross post, Gin... she has such a beautiful face. I am so very sorry for your loss x

raspberrymeringue · 07/07/2022 16:54

buzzofthebumblebee · 07/07/2022 17:45

TheRealHousewife · 07/07/2022 18:12

@ginsparkles my heart breaks for you. She is a beauty, such a sweet gentle face. Our pets are such a part of our families and the grief is real when they have to leave us. Sorry for your loss 💔😢💐
