Weight loss for ivf or baby

Weightlossivf · 23/06/2022 15:56

I’m m trying to lose weight so I can have a baby, I’m planning to go down the solo mother by choice route.

im only late 20s so got plenty time, but I’ve also got a fuck ton of weight to lose to get my bmi down to around 30. My bmi currently is 55.

im a very frustrated as I only lost 100g this week, and I worked really hard, both gym and food. I am in my period so maybe that why,

anyone got any advice or want to join me?

If you contact the GP they may be able to refer you for free weight loss and/or free exercise class. Many areas do this now.

see if your area is listed in the link

A BMI of 30 is still quite an issue for pregnancy, isn’t it? I thought the recommendation was to aim to be at the top of the healthy range.

Unfortunately that seems to just be England. I’ve tried our local areas weight loss programme, all virtual, you just watch a few videos and read webpages, complete waste of my time, as I already knew the information and it offered no support whatsoever.

Well, obviously a healthy bmi would be better. But private clinics bmi limit tends to be 35 or 30 so it can’t be that much of an issue. Plus I’m very muscular and built heavily so I’ll never be a healthy bmi, I’d look unwell.

30 is fine, that's a great aim to have. Have a chat with the doctor - think about Saxenda which would be available to you I think?

Sofasogood1 · 23/06/2022 16:56

Weight loss surgery op. Your BMI is huge (mine used to be almost as big at 48).

You will never lose the weight and maintain it through dieting. Good luck - I've done weight loss surgery and doing IVF .

Sofasogood1 · 23/06/2022 16:58

(ps exercise will make fuck all difference - plough the gym money into surgery and start exercising once youve brought your BMI right down)

Weightlossivf · 23/06/2022 17:02

I’m not going to do weight loss surgery. I can never eat a liquid diet, plus I don’t want to have vitamin injections for life, or have any of the other complications related to surgery. I’ve already lost 18kg. I love the gym it makes me happy, so I’m not giving that up, weight loss surgery will never make me happy. I know you mean well suggesting it but it would never work for me, I know it can be a good option for other people, but I know I wouldn’t get on with it. Thank you though

I thought about saxenda but i could never afford it. Plus I never get hungry, which I think is the main idea behind saxenda.

my main issue is will power I think. I get lazy with my eating but I lost 18kg in 6 months last year with just the gym and eating well. So I don’t see why I can’t do it again. Thank you for the suggestion though.

What does an average day look like?

Great to have a clear target I think which you have ☺️

HappyCup · 23/06/2022 17:11

It’s great that you already enjoy the gym. Rather than think of it in terms of weight loss I’d focus on the goal of getting your body and eggs healthy ready to have a baby. Focus on nourishing your body with healthy food and getting fitter at the gym.

redwaterbottle · 23/06/2022 17:15

Have you tried Ozempic for weight loss? I have heard great things about it and there was a thread a few weeks back about it.

It’s rare I eat breakfast, which I know isn’t great but I feel I’ll if I eat early.

lunch I have low carb wraps with tuna and a bag of those popped potato chips.

then for tea it depends. Today I had fish cakes with a few fries and two portions of peas. Sometimes I’ll have sausage, mash and beans, spaghetti bolognese, posh dogs that sort of thing. I try to keep it to about Max 700 cals. With at least one or two portions of veg. I don’t eat fruit.

im autistic so I have sensory issues relating to food. I realise these things limit me significantly, but I can’t do too much about that, I do try and eat new stuff too but it’s difficult.

peas are the only vegetables I eat apart from carrots in spaghetti bolognese.

my calories I try to stick between 1700-1900 calories. Apps say I should eat 2300 but that is way too much food.

Obviously I can't see portion size but your breakfast and lunch sound like a very small amount of food, aren't you hungry? I personally wouldn't find that filling at all.

Can you introduce more protein?

If your dinner is only 700 calories, how can you be eating 1700 with no breakfast? A wrap and light crisps can't be more than 500 max. Do you snack a lot?

ClaudiusTheGod · 23/06/2022 17:45

How did you get to BMI 55? Have you been able to change your eating patterns successfully?

HelpIneedsomebodywontyouplease · 23/06/2022 18:10

How many ‘wraps’ for lunch? & are you having mayo on the Tuna?

do you weigh and log your food accurately to track calories? Maybe that’s the thing that will help if you aren’t doing it already?

I was always very big but sat around 120kg, and i could easily walk 13 miles a day everyday (i was a postie) then I got ill, I was veryvery depressed and ended up on anti psychotic medication. One notorious for weight gain and the medication jsut made me hungry too. I was so ill i didnt even notice i was gaining weight. I gained around 50 kg over the course of a year. BUt now I'm better so that is all behind me. Coming off an almost weight neutral antipsychotic in 6 months time. I feel so. much better and have done for about 9 months. whcih is when I lost the 18 kg.

yeah my eating patterns are so much better. i used to binge on crisps andchocolate but i no longer do that. apart from very occasionally.

i dont snack a lot. I forgot to mention maybe 2 or 3 days a week ill have a small cheese sandwich in the evening, adding up to about 300 calories. i havent had one for the past two days and i only looked at the past two days when thinking up what i ewas eating.

what sort of bread? They can be around 100 calories per slice, a measly 12g of Asda cheddar is 50 calories and wouldn’t even cover a slice. Do you weigh the cheese & do you add butter & weigh that? If calorie tracking it really pays to weigh every item so you can see where you might be slipping up and can make good swaps. You also need to keep in mind what you are drinking can add calories too.

this guy is really informative, have a look at his account. He’s very against slimming world, diet food and shakes etc & focuses on making realistic food choices. He has lots of good little videos.

its that smaller loaf you get. its 56 calories a slice. cheese 25g slice is just over 100 calroies. and butter i use about 10g. which is about 67 calories.

i drink squash and water and maybe one or two sugar free fizzy drinks a week. and the odd hot chocolatelike once a month.

thanks for the video recommendation.

Deli kitchen carb lite wraps are 127 cals each
tablespoon of Mayo 100 calories
tin of tuna in water 120 calories
crisps assuming 99 calories
573 -ish? For lunch any butter? I wouldn’t have butter with Mayo but I know some people do
what about a drink?

Today I had fish cakes with a few fries
what kind of fish cakes, how many, how were they cooked & what type of fries and how much did they weigh? It really does all make a difference- sadly.
