Weight loss for ivf or baby

Weightlossivf · 23/06/2022 15:56

I’m m trying to lose weight so I can have a baby, I’m planning to go down the solo mother by choice route.

im only late 20s so got plenty time, but I’ve also got a fuck ton of weight to lose to get my bmi down to around 30. My bmi currently is 55.

im a very frustrated as I only lost 100g this week, and I worked really hard, both gym and food. I am in my period so maybe that why,

anyone got any advice or want to join me?

Sorry, I see I’m getting a bit much!
I just know what it’s like to want a baby & know you want to lower your BMI to go ahead. I’m just looking for things you may not have thought of.

Ignore the comment about the gym not helping, especially as you enjoy it. Weight loss is mainly done through diet but the exercise will be fantastic for improving your health, both physically and mentally.

Sofasogood1 · 23/06/2022 19:16

If you won't consider surgery do at least ditch the processed food.

I recently listened to a podcast about it (a thorough examination on BBC) and was startled but unsurprised to hear you that if you have a BMI over just 40 of coming back down to a normal weight without specialist support are one in 4,000.

One in 4,000!!!!!! The worst cancers have better recovery rates.

Most will lose weight and put it back on. You will have irrevocably changed your body and hormones and your body just isn't going to want to lose weight.

Maybe you're the one in 4000. I wish you good luck.

OP you have my sympathy, some of those anti-psychotics are awful for weight gain. Next to impossible to lose while on them. Good luck.

Keto and exercise really helped me. I was struggling to conceive, lost a pile of weight and then did get pregnant. I sadly lost the baby (and had a couple more losses afterwards) but I'm now pregnant again and everything seems to be going well this time (I'm nearly 27 weeks). Different things work for different people though and so it may not be right for you, but keto is the one thing that I found I could stick to. My GP said there is also some evidence that it may help with fertility as well as with weight loss. I have put a bit back on after I starting eating carbs again (I was told not to do keto when pregnant) but I am still miles off my starting weight, even with my pregnancy weight, so it's not true that all the weight just piles back on afterwards. It is definitely going to be my go-to to lose my pregnancy weight after I have the baby. Good luck with whatever you do. Weight loss is tough but having a baby as a goal really does help with motivation

May I join OP?

I’m also late 20s and I have been considering IVF (solo mother also by choice) but I need to get my finances in order before I do.

like you I am also going down the calorie deficit route and have just signed up to a gym. I have been swimming 3 times this week but I am yet to make use of the gym facilities yet. I am unfit having not exercised for quite some time.

my current weight is 162 pounds and I would like to get to around 140.

today I have eaten 1475 calories and up to now I have burned 2140 calories.

well done for losing the 18kg OP that’s an amazing start to your journey! Congrats 🎉

Weightlossivf · 23/06/2022 20:33

@Weightlossivf

Sorry I’ve not been back over the weekend, I didn’t track my calories or do much any exercise. However I’ve been better today. I’ll post my calories and exercise in the morning as my watch is currently on charge.

Looks like you had a good day on Saturday, and I’m jealous of your venison burger it sounds tasty! Keep up the good work OP!

Weightlossivf · 29/06/2022 12:40

ive had no more than 1900 calories the past few days and I’ve walked dogs (dog walker) a three days this week. And been to the gym twice. Hopefully I’ll actually have lost weight this week. Last week I did well all week and lost 100g. It was that time of the month, it still is but it’s almost finished I think lol.

I heard this too.

Have you done research into saxenda OP? I'm not overweight but know someone who has had fantastic results on saxenda.

Also gastric band (different than a bypass) you can start reintroducing food 2/3 weeks after surgery. Would that not be an option? You'll see results so much quicker.

Weightlossivf · 30/06/2022 12:46

Well I lost half a kilo this week so just over a pound, which is awesome. Super happy with my self. I really wanted to get under 160kg but I’m 160.3 lol

I’ve had weight loss surgery (gastric band) - twice in fact due to complications. I’m glad to see you’re cautious about WLS (I’m not 100% sure I’d recommend it) but want to suggest you look into it more thoroughly. There’s no need to eat a liquid diet for the rest of your life. I eat whatever I want. My dad has the sleeve and he eats smaller quantities of anything he likes- including alcohol. He would 100% recommend it. Neither of us need vitamin injections either. It sounds like you’ve seen some scaremongering to be honest and I think you should consider looking into it more thoroughly before dismissing it. Weight loss is incredibly difficult.

Whoever suggested a gastric band - they would be difficult to get now, they’re out of fashion due to newer better technology- mainly the sleeve.

eurochick · 30/06/2022 13:17

Your fish cakes are very low cal. The ones we get (also haddock) are around 600 Cals for 2.

Babdoc · 30/06/2022 13:28

A colleague of mine lost 7 stone in order to have a baby, after having miscarried. She successfully had two babies in her early forties, but sadly then put a lot of the weight back on. She used one of those meal replacement shakes programs.
It is possible, OP, and any weight loss you achieve will have benefits for your health, reducing your risks of diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, and several cancers including endometrial and pancreatic.
I know the autism can make introducing new foods difficult, but see if you can try adding more fibre - green leafy veg, whole grain brown rice, etc. That will make you feel fuller after meals and reduce your risk of bowel cancer. Finally, best wishes for your continued weight loss, and well done for your progress so far. Keep your spirits and motivation up!

doadeer · 30/06/2022 14:32

OP are you sure you're tracking everything? I'm sure you should be losing more than that
