Where in your BMI weight range do you look best

At the moment I'm 67kg and I'm 175cm. I started off trying to loose weight at the top of the BMI range ( I'm sure it said I was overweight at 75.5kg? ) But my goal is middle of the range at 65kg.

I still have a big tummy, which I didn't have pre 2 DC. Maybe it's just 2 kg of tummy? Just wondering where I should aim for? I can't imagine being 56kg at this height. It's a massive weight range of 20kg. I didn't really use to weigh myself previously, just went on my size 12 clothes ( 14 in Primark Jeans ) , but sizes seem so varied now it's hard to do that.

The bottom end.

Isausernameavailable · 25/05/2022 23:14

I'm 5'11. Look best at 10 to 10.5 stone, size 12. Less than 10 my face looks old

Josette77 · 25/05/2022 23:17

Bottom end.

JustMaggie · 25/05/2022 23:17

I'm 174 cm tall and I feel I look my best around 59kg, around a BMI of 19.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 25/05/2022 23:18

I'm 5'7. Lost 3 stone 10 years ago and got to my goal weight of 10 stone - was a size 8 and looked scrawny. The weight I look best at is 11 1/2 stone, size 10-12.

Hardtofindafreename · 25/05/2022 23:20

I'm struggling to get into my correct BMI. Currently 160cm and 70kg after 22kg loss & still it officially puts me as overweight yet I'm very comfortably wearing size 12 Primark. I can't ever see myself getting to the 64kg I'm supposed to be as I'd look too gaunt. What BMI doesn't take into account though is my muscular legs and shoulders (swimmer & cyclist). I think BMI is too restrictive a measurement.

JennyAct3 · 25/05/2022 23:25

I look best around the 20 mark.

Hedonism · 25/05/2022 23:26

Middle.

backgroundingo · 25/05/2022 23:32

I remember being 6 1/2 Stone (approx 41kg) when I was starting secondary school, as saw in magazine that was what Kylie Minogue weighed ( showing my age now) But pretty saw I was 9 1/2 stone at 16 ( approx 60kg) so can't imagine age 40 ( now) I'd get back to that. I do have quite muscular thighs too.

haven't a scooby

Pretty sure I would feel uncomfortable in my own skin outside of 19-23

Marty13 · 25/05/2022 23:38

Personally I feel good at 21 bmi. I've never really managed to go below that and I don't feel the need. That's 57kg at 1m68.

But I think that depends on a lot of things - how you carry weight, your body shape, your own feelings about it.

Though people saying they look "gaunt" when they're clearly overweight going by their numbers makes me smile, I think people's perception of weight has shifted a lot in the past decades !

A healthy BMI is about metabolic health, not about cosmetic. As stated, the range in terms of kgs between the beginning and end of the healthy range is huge.

I look and feel at my best around 19. I have been there most of my life, with the exceptions of pregnancies.
I feel agile, young and in shape . I love how my clothes or any clothes in the shops feel and it doesn't take much, a couple of kilos, for the trouser button to pull or the zip of a skirt to resist, so when this happens, I eat less for a few days until I feel right again. I can't see myself with 20 more kilos and at the higher end of my BMI.

The looking gaunt and old has more to do with other factors, such as what you eat and drink at that BMI. Fish and chips or chickpeas and broccolis. Is it booze or carrot juice. Or how long you had huge excess weight . The facial features adapt and change with weight, and did you lose fat or muscle in your face? Some diets, such as keto/low carb , cause a big loss in lean mass, so muscles and as a result, the facial structure might be altered.

I am very toned and strong, so you can have muscles on a low BMI.

I don't think there is an ideal set point for anyone. Mine is on the low side, for others it might be further up.

I’m 6ft and look good at 13ish Stone which is the top end of my healthy BMI. It’s a dream to be that weight at the moment (so much to lose aghh)

onlywork55 · 28/05/2022 19:46

I don’t think I’ve been lower than about 20-21 as an adult, that works well for me though.

At that weight I feel I can wear anything. If I go to the higher end of normal BMI I seem to spend much more time worrying about whether my clothes are flattering.

I’m currently at around 21.5 and aiming to get just slightly lower.

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 28/05/2022 19:50

I looked my best when my BMI was around 23/24. But I only think that because as an adult my BMI has never been lower than that! Grin I'm pretty sure I would look even better with a lower BMI than that, I am short and every pound really shows!

LaurieFairyCake · 28/05/2022 20:05

At the top (25) I look great. Size 10 and curvy with a size 26 waist

Dachshund · 28/05/2022 20:10

I feel and look my best around BMI 19 but I am also very petite; in height as well as build

roarfeckingroarr · 28/05/2022 20:14

Definitely the bottom end. Im 5"4 and look best around 53kg.

DaisyWaldron · 28/05/2022 20:24

24-27. Below 24 and I have sturdy muscular legs with a disproportionally big arse and no boobs and weedy arms and shoulders. 24-27 I look curvy and strong and dresses fit me because my top and bottom are the same size. Over 27 and I look fat.

Svara · 28/05/2022 20:30

18.5 to 20

Svara · 28/05/2022 20:31

I have a small build and look overweight and unhealthy at a bmi over 22.

BarryStir · 28/05/2022 20:36

I look best at a BMI of around 27. Much less and I start to look unwell.
unfortunately at present I’m much higher.

Girlintheframe · 28/05/2022 20:36

I sit around 22. 21 looks ok too but I find that harder to sustain now I'm older. Below 21 I look unwell mainly as it seems to come off my face

SooopDragon · 28/05/2022 20:38

Below 22 my cheeks get very hollow and my eyes get sunken and I look unwell. My tummy is still an issue though - sadly I think that’s because it’s stretched beyond repair by three kids
