I’m starting my Saxenda journey today! Anybody else on Saxenda with tips or success stories? I have about 10 stone to loose so a long way to go.

I've lost another pound which I'm surprised at, as this week hasn't been the best, food choice wise.
Mind you, I've shifted the backed up 💩 so that might account for it!

Indoctro · 26/09/2022 06:10

So I went to specialist about my gallbladder

Turns out it's not Saxenda as such that caused it, it's weight loss . He said it doesn't matter how I lose the weight , it's a effect of actually losing it that's the issue

He said if I want to keep losing weight which I do I can go back on the pen.

So I'm going to in November after a event I'm training for as I have two pens left and bmi is 26 down from 30 but I'd like it to be in healthy range.
So I might as well use the two pens I have left .

Also I read if you stop and go back on it you need to leave a decent gap for it to be affective so that will leave 12 weeks gap.

bippityboppity87 · 26/09/2022 09:24

@Indoctro I've heard about that actually. Can't remember where I read it, but significant weightloss has been linked to gallbladder issues. It's like you deal with one problem and another one pops up Angry No wonder it's so hard to lose weight. It's very complex. Not as black and white as some people make out it is. Hope you're able to get it sorted

bippityboppity87 · 26/09/2022 09:27

I'm down to 18st 1lb. So getting there slowly. I've been on Saxenda just over 5 weeks now and I've managed to lose 18lbs. No idea if that's average or not

But it's helped my IBS (I have IBS-D) when the nurse ironically said it can't be prescribed to IBS patients. But it's done wonders for mine! Maybe depends what type you have? I can imagine if you have the other one, it would make it worse

bippityboppity87 · 26/09/2022 09:28

@LadyOfTheCanyon That's brilliant! Well done

Yes definitely not black and white

He said 1 in 4 people get gallbladder issues from losing weight

Unfortunately seems like I'm one of them.

But staying overweight isn't great either ...seems I need to pick which one the lesser of the two evils Confused

Gallstones or obesity Hmm

Yeiscray · 03/10/2022 15:59

Hello.. not posted on this thread yet, been lurking, but it’s what actually inspired me to start.

So I started Saxenda 4 weeks ago, I’ve lost 1st (14lb).

Ive not really done much exercise or been disgustingly healthy, just had smaller portions of everything! Had no side effects (apart from 💩 less). I’ve gone off piste with the dosing so im
now upping to 1.8mg this week and feel happy at this currently, has anyone else ever stayed at a lower dose and seen benefits, apparently I’m meant to be on 3mg but I won’t be able to afford that unfortunately (long term). I’ve been a bit deflated this week as I only lost 1lb 😞 so I’m upping my exercise/walking everywhere and eating a lot healthier to see if that kickstart it again, if not, I’ll up my dose to 2.4mg.

Also as I’m on lower doses I’m running low on my needles, where do you get your needles from please?

Just want to say well done to everyone on here, your success stories really gave me drive to start this and I can honestly never see me going back to the way I’ve been before it! So thank you!

Yeiscray · 03/10/2022 16:00

Also..

Has anyone else experienced a lower weight loss when they’re on their period?

KrankySchwester · 04/10/2022 10:05

Hi @Yeiscray well done for the weight loss, that’s brilliant!
Yes to the lower dose. I’ve been on Saxenda for just over 2 months and I’m on 1.2. I’m trying to stay as low as I can because I can’t afford the full dose.

and yes to the slow weight loss right before my period. It’s very very annoying!

bippityboppity87 · 04/10/2022 19:18

Hi everyone hope you're all well. I have a question(s). It could just be me being impatient, not accurately assessing my calorie intake, a plateau, but could do with some opinions

So I'm now on the highest dose, but the weight doesn't seem to be budging and I don't know why. Unless I'm being unrealistic, but it seems weird

I've been on Saxenda for 6 weeks and I have lost in total 18lbs (8.16kg) I'm happy with that, but the past 3 weeks my weight hasn't gone down at all. I seem to hover between 18st and 18st 3lbs, sometimes within a day of each other, but just isn't shifting from that number. It's a little bit annoying. My appetite has gone down significantly, so I don't think overeating is the issue (though could be wrong) and I do feel slimmer. But it's not showing on the scales!

Is this normal? I know I probably should have done my measurements first, as I've heard that can be more accurate. Or it could it be water retention?

I went as far as to believe there was something wrong with my scales 😂 wishful thinking but alas, that's not it

KrankySchwester · 05/10/2022 09:50

@bippityboppity87 plateau perhaps? Your body needs to get used to this weight before dropping down again? I don’t know I’m sorry. But just because you’re not losing weight now doesn’t mean it won’t shift soon. It’s hard, the hardest bit I think, to keep going when you’re yo-yoing the same 3lb over and over, but keep going. Monitor your measurements - body, weight and food; record everything you eat & make sure you’re drinking loads.
good luck (from someone stuck in the same damn place)

bippityboppity87 · 05/10/2022 16:50

Thank you for the reply @KrankySchwester I think you're right

Though I spoke too soon 😂 went on the scales this morning and I'm now 17st 12lbs. Thank Christ for that lol

KrankySchwester · 05/10/2022 18:12

@bippityboppity87 wonderful news!

Yeiscray · 05/10/2022 18:17

@bippityboppity87 that’s amazing pal! Well done you!! There’s nothing like getting down in that stone number is there, I can’t wait to see 17st something (I’m hoping this week might be my week too!). Have you do anything different?

Im due to reorder in the next 10-14 days, does anyone have any discount codes to buy more pens please? Cheapest is looking around £240 for 5 pens (which should last me about 5-6 weeks).

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/10/2022 19:37

Well done @bippityboppity87 that's great news - breaking through the lower stone number feels great doesn't it?
StarStarfor you!

No news from me - I've doubled down on the calorie counting again as I'm plateauing hard and think I might go up to 1.8 to see if that gives me a nudge in the right direction.

bippityboppity87 · 06/10/2022 11:22

Thanks everyone!

Not really @Yeiscray. Only thing I can think of is that I've cut down a bit on carbs, but not hugely. I don't count calories, never have (though maybe I should start doing that!) I mainly do intuitive eating. Is that what it's called? So eat when I'm hungry, not at set times or force myself to eat lunch for example if I'm not hungry. I haven't cut anything out. But I don't think that was the issue. I think it was my portions. So that's gone down massively as I'm not as hungry now. I still have a few gins at the weekend too

bippityboppity87 · 06/10/2022 11:27

I also eat mainly veg and salad as I find it a bit easier on my stomach with some protein. If I fancy a snack, which isn't often, I have blueberries, raspberries and blackberries in the fridge that I can just put in a bowl and eat. Or one of those small peperami snack things

troppibambini6 · 06/10/2022 19:41

Hi I've not posted for a bit but I'm still plodding away I've lost 16lbs in 6 weeks.

@bippityboppity87 well done on your loss. I stuck for a bit and while I'm trying to get too hung up on calories a few days of tracking made me realise actually I'd probably ate more than I thought. It's great things are moving again for you though.

Moanranger · 07/10/2022 16:33

I have now tried both Saxenda & Ozempic. Here’s my story, I am around 83kg & would like to get down to 70, so not lots to lose.Saxenda first. I went on that last year & got down to 76kg, but then broke my collarbone, so lifestyle was messed up & I came off it. It took me about 3 mo to lose 6kg.
when I decided to re-start, I went for Ozempic, as I liked the idea of a weekly injection. I stuck it out for about a month, but it made me so depressed/lethargic & generally lacking in energy, I came off it. Now glad to have my positivity back.
Effects on appetite- both slightly suppressed my hunger, but did not really stop emotional eating. As they both act on glucose metabolism,I think they gave me slight sugar cravings from time to time. Towards the end of my time on Ozempic, I realised that Low carb was more effective than either of those without t affecting my mood, so that’s what I am doing now. No sugar-cravings on low carb, either.
I think it can be more effective on some than others, but for me, the side effects not worth it. Good luck if it works for you.

AgathaMystery · 10/10/2022 01:03

Hello all - much plateauing here after I took 2 weeks off to sort out constipation +++ (TMI I know).

anyway - gallbladder pain. Holy. Fuck. I’ve had 3 attacks in 7 days and am lay here with an attack coming on. The pain is absolutely unreal. I have never felt anything like it. It is unbelievable.

Not sure what to do TBH.

Indoctro · 10/10/2022 08:06

@AgathaMystery this happened to me
I was on it for 10 weeks then two attacks

I went to see a consultant who said it wasn't the jab causing it, it was the weigh loss but it didn't matter how I lost the weight , it was the actual losing weight that causes stones

So he said if I was going to continue to want to lose weight I could keep using the injection as slimming world etc of anything else would still cause gall stones

Anyway last week he sent me for a scan to see what was going on and they scanned gall bladder , pancreas and kidney and could find nothing wrong . No gall stones etc nothing out of the ordinary at all

So he has come to the conclusion the actual drug has caused the pain but he has no idea why.

On the plus side at least I don't need my gallbladder out and the pain has now gone after 4 weeks off Saxenda.

AgathaMystery · 10/10/2022 08:59

Interesting. So sorry you went through this too. I have had the pain during my 2 weeks off so I don’t think it’s the saxenda for me.

Who knows in all honesty?

I am tempted to call in a favour at work & get myself a scan. The pain hasn’t quite gone from last night.

bippityboppity87 · 10/10/2022 14:17

Might be irrelevant, but do any of you two suffer with IBS? I've had horrendous pain just under my ribs on the right hand side for years on and off. I thought it was gallstones, the gp thought it was gallstones. Had a scan and it wasn't that. They couldn't see anything. They came to the conclusion that it must be my large intestine having a "spasm" of some sort, due to what I've eaten or drank. It's bloody painful like. Sharp, stabbing pain that comes in waves. Takes your breathe away. But thankfully haven't had it in an while

Indoctro · 10/10/2022 15:41

@bippityboppity87 I haven't had any issues at all until just a few weeks ago, so I don't think it is ibs

I did find a study on Saxenda and gall bladders inflammation and it concluded that yes there is a link to Saxenda and gall bladder pain but they didn't know why but it said something along lines it could be due to Saxenda changing PH (I think) of bile which could cause pain

I've been told not to take it again now by consultant...but annoying as I have two pens left and would of liked to lose another stone.

Moderatelyobese · 10/10/2022 16:23

How frustrating about the pain. I’ve stopped taking it as I was just feeling crappy and nauseous all the time. Of course, the hunger has come rushing back.
