I’m starting my Saxenda journey today! Anybody else on Saxenda with tips or success stories? I have about 10 stone to loose so a long way to go.

Hi everyone hope you're all well

Managed to lose another 1lb despite it being my time of the month, which I'm very surprised about! I usually put on weight, not lose it 😂

So a week in SW:19st 2lbs CW:18st 9lbs

Very, very pleased with that!

I think I'm going to stick to the 0.6 for now and see how long I can stay on that dose before moving up

Moderatelyobese · 27/08/2022 15:30

That’s great, @bippityboppity87 !

Just 0.6 kg off this week, but it was
my birthday and I ate more than usual, including cake! I was starting to feel hungrier again on 1.2 so have upped the dose to 1.8 today. Now feeling quease-tastic.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 27/08/2022 17:45

Well done all!
Another couple of pounds off for me this week which brings me to 1.4 stone lost in 6 weeks, which is about 3lb a week, which I'm happy with. I'm still sticking to 1200/1300 calories a day but there's normally one day a week I see family or friends for lunch or dinner and all bets are off then! I try and make good choices but sometimes cake has crept in... however I'm finding that having a bit of a blow out doesn't put me off or make me want to eat more, I can get straight back on it the next day.

Still on 0.6 - I'm noticing a bit more hunger creeping in but I haven't been very busy at work so not sure if I'm thinking about food because I'm bored, or genuinely hungry. Anyway, drinking water seems to alleviate the hunger and if I really feel I need to snack then I'll have an apple.

Personally I would like to fast 16:8 as I'm never really hungry in the evening, but my husband really likes us to eat dinner together and as we don't get a lot of time together, preparing and eating food is a nice way for us to connect at the end of a long day.

AgathaMystery · 27/08/2022 18:49

Well done all! I am on holiday so no idea what I weigh but am still injecting. Day 20 for me and I am upping the dose tonight to 0.6+3 clicks as I’m noting hunger creeping in.

will be weighing in on Monday night

zobalina77 · 27/08/2022 20:08

Hi, I'm on day 5 of using saxenda and am 5lb down so far. I feel slightly full straight after eating, which is definitely new for me as before I never felt full, but am still hungry a lot of the time so will be going up to 1.2 on Tuesday. I was hoping to stay at 0.6 for longer to make it cheaper though. Side effect wise I have spots on my forehead, nothing I can't cover up if needed, but wondered if it was a common thing.

bippityboppity87 · 27/08/2022 21:23

@zobalina77 funny you mention that. I had the same thing and thought it was just me. Never get spots on my forehead! But was mainly blackheads/bumps

I decided to cut right back on my face cleaning regime. I use skin&me which I've been using for a year with no issues until now. So I've stopped that and use a simple face wash, then apply La Roche-Posay B5 balm the past few nights. Like really lather it on. It's cleared it right up

bippityboppity87 · 27/08/2022 21:29

Not sure if that's the right one I linked. It's this one. Apologies

zobalina77 · 27/08/2022 22:03

Thank you for the recommendation, I do like using new skincare things. I've stopped using retinol as I thought my skin must be quite sensitive at the minute so I have stripped it right back to cleanser and moisturizer.

SedentaryCat · 28/08/2022 09:30

Just back from a week away. Noticed my jeans getting looser over the week, came back and have have lost 4lbs on holiday which is unheard of. Usually I come back with 'extra baggage' 🙄

2.5 weeks in and I've lost 7lbs. Still on 1.2 dose as don't see the need to up it at the moment and I have just finished the first pen.

This was my last resort before investigating surgery and I'm so pleased it's working.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 28/08/2022 12:17

"Extra baggage" made me lol! Grin

BackT · 28/08/2022 18:53

I'm feeling quite despondent about it all at the moment.

I've been on saxenda for about 10 weeks and have lost about 12lbs over all. It's a good loss and I'm happy with it but it's slowly creeping back on.

I am short and started at 12 stone 5 so I understand that the big losses were not going to happen for me.

No real point to this post but I'm sad about the amount of money I've spent and that it seems to have stalled.

I'm 11 7 now and that's still well over a stone overweight.

AgathaMystery · 28/08/2022 21:15

It is very expensive I agree. I have been unwell (mild flu) since starting it but from Tuesday (return from hols) I will be exercising.

how is your exercising going? Do you think you’re managing a calorie deficient or, do you think you weren’t big enough for saxenda to be the right tool for you?

Indoctro · 28/08/2022 22:51

Haven't posted for a bit so here is my wee update

Started 23rd June at 14st 10lb

I'm 5ft 10

I'm now 13st 3lb . 1 1/2 stone lost

It's been slow. I have had various side effects . I am on my 6th pen and today is my 2nd day on full 3mg. Side effects have stalled me increasing quicker.

I have bought another 4 pens and then I think I will finish.

I do a fair bit of walking and running but had covid so only recently built back up the running

Overall I'm pleased with the weight loss as I've struggled for years to lost the extra 3 stone I carry even though I average 20/25 miles a week running

I binge eat unfortunately due to ADHD and I haven't since being on Saxenda, so I'm hoping once I finish that "habit" or "addiction" will be gone

I am not monitoring what I eat at all, no calorie counting etc. I just going with how I feel and my appetite has been reduced alot along with urges to binge.

Anyway I thought I'd update how I was doing.

That’s week 5 finished and I lost 2lb despite it being the run up to my period. 20lb down, 50 to go. Still on 0.6 but with 8 clicks, so really 1.08ml. Not really hungry but my thighs are now covered in red weals and bruises

troppibambini6 · 29/08/2022 20:16

Some amazing losses on here. Well done to all the losers!

Week since I've come back from holiday and I've lost 5lbs which I'm happy with.

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 30/08/2022 09:28

I'm on Day 17, staying at 1.2 for now -- hesitant to go up too soon as long-term I don't think Saxenda is sustainable financially and for now it still seems to work at this dose.

I've lost 3.5 kg / 7.7 lbs and have no side effects really, possibly some very mild heartburn occasionally. I would say I have another 22 lbs to go before I'm at a weight I would feel comfortable with. Probably more like 35 lbs to be a healthy weight / not in the overweight category, but I haven't been that weight since I was a pre-teen, quite a few years ago.

Was feeling very cheery until I saw some unflattering photos of myself the other day -- ouch.

If Saxenda really works for so many people to regulate satiety hormones and lose weight, I believe it should be heavily discounted on the NHS to tackle the obesity rates in the UK -- and save money longer term.

Congratulations on your WL so far.

I completely agree with your last paragraph.

Yes, Saxenda is expensive (and expensive for the NHS to supply), but surely it's much more cost effective than the alternatives? Bariatric surgery costs a lot, along with all the other weight loss suggestions they give you. Not to mention the cost of managing obesity-related disease.

I've been referred to WL 'courses', been offered WW/SW vouchers, given Orlistat, and given heavily discounted access to a gym (where the staff were quite offhand). None of it worked. I asked about Saxenda and was told I didn't meet the criteria (I had a BMI of 40+ with co-morbidities). The implication is still there that it's your own fault....just eat less and move more.

My issue was eating as a response to past trauma and I just needed the voice to quieten. Saxenda has given me that space. I have 6+ stone to shift, but if I lose half of that it'll be enough.

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 30/08/2022 12:24

@SedentaryCat But it seems you do meet the criteria as listed on www.nhs.uk/conditions/obesity/treatment/. Is it worth going back to the GP or find another one?

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 30/08/2022 12:25

Saxenda is not a miracle cure on its own, but it could save the NHS millions of pounds in the long run and it's strange that there's so little attention being paid to the positive outcomes in mainstream news. My own GP did not seem to be aware of the existence of Saxenda whatsoever.

Apart from on this one issue my GP is very good. I would have funded WL surgery myself rather than go through the NHS, so I'm spending some of my savings. This is by far the cheaper option.

I will tell her I'm taking it when I next see her. By then I'll be much thinner Smile

I've also been seeing a therapist to sort out the trauma side of things, so when I stop Saxenda I will be more able to control my eating habits.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 30/08/2022 19:16

Can I ask where people are injecting? I was doing the tops of my arms/ tops of thighs but was bruising. Changed to stomach in the last four days and I've got virtually no appetite again, just like when I first started using it. I haven't upped the dose from 0.6 at all.

Do you think the injection site can affect the feeling of fullness?

Caramac555 · 30/08/2022 19:30

I'm doing stomach rather than thighs for injection, it's less sore and I bruise less.

I'm ten weeks in and 1 and half stone down. I went off the rails in August on holiday but plateaued rather than regained which is miraculous for me.

Am refocusing in Sept, would like to have 3 stone off by Christmas

Caramac555 · 30/08/2022 19:32

By going off the rails I mean wine and fish and chips, not the best choices but I just couldn't eat the quantity that I used to. And sweet stuff like ice cream has no appeal. I'm really not myself😂

AgathaMystery · 30/08/2022 22:04

Yes! I’m not craving sweet stuff at all. It’s so weird. I LOVE ice cream. I really adore it. I can’t bear the thought of it. So weird.

after a week away my weight remained stable which I’m happy with.

Moderatelyobese · 30/08/2022 22:30

I’m suddenly impervious to chocolate. So odd.
