I have been trying to lose weight for 20 years and yet today I am the biggest I have ever been. Anyone want to join me in a last ditch attempt to make this elusive lifestyle change?

I'm really really trying not to be self critical and get into self hatred as I do believe the latest science e.g. the obesity code etc

i also know how to do it and what works for me (in the short term). But yet i take an age to get started....false starts and then get into a flow and lose a significant amount of weight....3-5 stones usually. Then slip, slip abit more, fall entirely off the wagon. Put even more weight on and then take a year to get back into the right frame of mind to start again.

I'm approaching the right mindset again but I really think I'm going to have to consider surgery if I can't do it this time. I know it's a lifestyle choice etc etc but as of yet I haven't had the mental fortitude to do it and keep
doing it. I have some barriers (excuses) to overcome but I am so sick of this weight - more mentally to be honest than physically.

For once I am starting right now - weighed myself in prep for starting after my birthday but I'm so scared by the current number that I have started right now. Skipped dinner and having a black coffee. Normally I spend a few weeks eating like shit because so know I am starting a diet (which is soooo messed up and disordered).

so have a goal to lose 5lbs (5 stone feels too much right now) which will bring me below my highest weight ever and will take it from there.

Anyone else want to join?

Jennifer

congratulations! Hope mum is well.

oh I'm not dwelling, it was just an observation. I have no intention of going treat free! 😂

struggling with my boiling hot flat so not sure what I'll be able to eat today.

Ah good about the treats - last time I was healthy my treat was a cherry & coconut muffin with a full fat latte watching call the midwife on a Sunday I looked forward to it all week!

Mum & baby both well - he is the most gorgeous baby ever to be born I'm not at all biased

Jennifer aww, bless.

wonder how OP is getting on. Nice to have a non diet specific thread, as it were.

heat has wiped me out today. No chance of working out in the flat, going for a walk, no idea what to eat for dinner but will probably come back hungry and find it sorts itself out!

@Believeinyou I am the same as you!! Piled on a couple of stone over the last 2/3 years, bringing me to almost 15 stone which I am disgusted with (BMI nearly 36 as I’m short)
Avoiding social situations, meeting up with old friends etc as I’m so fat now. I’m really so fed up but it’s the motivation when there so much to lose!

Hi all- just catching up with what's been going on!

I've had a bit of a stall with just 1/2 pound loss but then I did have big losses first 2-3 weeks so to be expected. I'm still plugging away through a few setbacks but I haven't eaten any chocolate/ cake or crisps etc or any bread/ pasta rice/potatoes - so that's pretty good at least

been re-reading the obesity code and also why we eat too much and it does resonate with me and my downfalls so will stick with this

The hot weather is helping though as salads suddenly become really desirable Grin

hi OP
you're doing so well.

i weighed myself today, no change but that's okay. I'm bloated from the heat so if any Londoners see a big EMMA floating overhead, give us a wave 😂

How's everyone doing? I ate a lot this weekend.

Ironically i walked past some reduced bakery stuff on Friday but then stayed with a friend and ate a lot there.

EmmaH2022 · 21/06/2022 11:12

Anyone around?

SilkySuky · 21/06/2022 19:08

Can I join please? Have done every diet under the sun including some crazy and borderline dangerous ones (lighter life!) And nothing has ever stuck.

Got a gym buddy and I get plenty of exercise but my brain is still obsessed with food. I'm going to get the audiobook mentioned at the beginning of the thread and really try my hardest this time.

I keep going to the boots online doctor page and looking at saxenda, but that scares me as it seems too extreme. Why can't I get a handle on this? It's the only area of my life I feel I don't have any control of.

If you'll have me, for accountability I want to start by telling you I got my measurements done at the gym, and I'm starting at 5ft 3in tall with a 41 inch waist. I feel really ashamed of that. I want to lose 7 inches off my waist in the next year, I think that might be achievable.
I'll be getting re checked every month, I don't want to do weekly weigh ins as I can get a bit scale obsessed. So here goes...

JenniferWooley · 21/06/2022 20:59

@EmmaH2022 not been great this week (too busy with my gorgeous new grandson can you tell he's my first) - no loss this weekend at weigh in but no gain so that's a positive I suppose!

Must get back on it properly. I'm putting off exercise because I know it'll be hot & I'll be knackered but I just need to get out & get on with it!
