I have been trying to lose weight for 20 years and yet today I am the biggest I have ever been. Anyone want to join me in a last ditch attempt to make this elusive lifestyle change?

I'm really really trying not to be self critical and get into self hatred as I do believe the latest science e.g. the obesity code etc

i also know how to do it and what works for me (in the short term). But yet i take an age to get started....false starts and then get into a flow and lose a significant amount of weight....3-5 stones usually. Then slip, slip abit more, fall entirely off the wagon. Put even more weight on and then take a year to get back into the right frame of mind to start again.

I'm approaching the right mindset again but I really think I'm going to have to consider surgery if I can't do it this time. I know it's a lifestyle choice etc etc but as of yet I haven't had the mental fortitude to do it and keep
doing it. I have some barriers (excuses) to overcome but I am so sick of this weight - more mentally to be honest than physically.

For once I am starting right now - weighed myself in prep for starting after my birthday but I'm so scared by the current number that I have started right now. Skipped dinner and having a black coffee. Normally I spend a few weeks eating like shit because so know I am starting a diet (which is soooo messed up and disordered).

so have a goal to lose 5lbs (5 stone feels too much right now) which will bring me below my highest weight ever and will take it from there.

Anyone else want to join?

@Believeinyou I know this thread has been running for a while but why do you say "I'm going to start after my birthday", just start today. You'll have another birthday next year, and the year after, and even the year after that. There will be excuses to eat and drink too much throughout your life.

lizziesnips · 31/05/2022 20:23

I got to my class, it was tough but great.
I was tempted to skip it because I prefer to work out in the morning, but I got there.
I do think slow progress is the way to go, but it's so easy to get overwhelmed and give up or have a binge.
it helps me to think of short term or sometimes even daily goals. And also rewarding myself in small ways, new skin care or at home pedicure.
If I focus lesson weight and food as a reward it supports my willpower.
You're right Peaches, a long time on a diet can be tough.

Hi User, I think the OP stated that she was starting straight away, and has been doing well for two weeks.

Following my lunch out yesterday
I weighed in today and still lost my standard half a pound!

i have now seen a full list of the Jubilee party food - having stashed the biccies at mum's.

pleased to say there's nothing on offer that I am likely to want to overeat! Though tbh I am unlikely to do that anywhere except the office. I once ate two donuts in a particularly boring meeting.

did my workout. Feeling a bit more chipper about it all. Feeling a bit of room in my jeans waistband!

JenniferWooley · 01/06/2022 22:58

I'm doing well with cutting out fizzy drinks & definitely feel less bloated for it.

Few days off work so shopping with my mum tomorrow morning - will do coffee out & go for skinny, sugar free caramel latte which saves me 42 calories not much in the grand scheme of things but it all adds up!

Mum also lives right beside a lovely country park so if weather stays nice I'll do the 7km walk around the loch at least twice this week I used to be able to do it in an hour and at 6am on a Sunday but if I manage it in under 2 I'll be surprised

@EmmaH2022 a buffet is my downfall & I have a baby shower in a couple of weeks so I'm already mentally preparing myself to stay away from the egg mayo sandwiches & cake Blush

EmmaH2022 · 01/06/2022 23:15

Jennifer being stuck in London, a country walk sounds fab.

I actually don't like buffets. Someone is bringing a load of cake, but if enough people have breathed on it before I see it, I won't want any!

I was going to set up a cocktail station but it looks like rain so we're cutting back anyway.

EmmaH2022 · 07/06/2022 10:46

How's everyone doing?

stalled a bit over Jubilee. But didn't overdo anything.

lizziesnips · 07/06/2022 11:28

Hi Emma, I'm still doing OK.
We were away for the weekend so diet not easy to stick to.
Back to the gym this morning and I'm booked in for a body stat analysis tomorrow.
I hope everyone else is doing well.

stairgates · 07/06/2022 11:29

I manged to put on nearly over 5lb during half term so that was terrible! But luckily? The kids have given me the sickness bug so managed to puke and poop it all back off again yesterday😂I need to take this silver lining and motivate myself to actually get a plan in place.

EmmaH2022 · 07/06/2022 13:59

stair you poor thing, I hope you feel better asap.

lizzie that's good, I haven't worked since Friday but will do again tonight.

stairgates · 07/06/2022 15:23

Thankyou Emma😍yes better and not a recommended way to lose a few lbs😁

I was wondering, what is everybody heres problem with food? Is it everything? Large portions, wrong food? I seem to eat everything I see! If I see it I have already picked it up and am eating it before I have even registered what I am doing, and I am a grazer, all day long just picking my way through anything that is open, plus its a load of sweet crap😫I need to cut up lots of veg and have it on the worktop to work with my grazing, I don't mind what I'm eating I just feel the need to be eating like a cow in the field grazing away😁When the kids go back to school after this bug I think I will experiment with having a bowl of carrots and veg chopped on the side.

CottonBallsUp · 07/06/2022 15:55

Interesting question @stairgates - for me it’s binge eating. I can stick to eating reasonably for a while but even a ‘normal’ diet feels restrictive now or at least I feel like because I need to lose so much weight then sooner or later I’ll have to reduce my calories and that feeling inevitably leads to a binge for me. So counterproductive!

However. I’ve been in hospital for a few days and the medicines they’ve sent me home with have really reduced my appetite and I’m really enjoying it tbh. It must be how ‘normal’ eaters feel and it’s very freeing.

Because I’ve been poorly I’ve missed a lots of the thread but I hope everyone’s doing ok!

JenniferWooley · 07/06/2022 22:45

Upping my water intake is going well I pee about 40 times a day though I'm up to 2.5 litres. I've also swapped out my afternoon caramel latte for a green tea with either lemon or pineapple & grapefruit.

This weeks goal is to prepare and take lunch to work - omelette made & ready to be re-heated tomorrow.

I need to buy my goddaughter a cinema voucher for her birthday so I'll take a walk up there after work tomorrow rather than take the car, it's just under 3 miles there & back.

I'm also doing Pilates Tuesday & Thursday morning with YouTube videos I'm probably not doing it right but I enjoy it & it sets me up for the day.

@stairgates my problem is not eating actual meals and just eating any old crap when I realise I'm starving. I actually eat more when I'm on a diet but it's healthy food as opposed to a Mars bar and 3 packets of salt & vinegar for dinner.

I'm looking forward to dinner tomorrow it's teriyaki pork with broccoli and rice (I have my meal plan printed out and stuck to the fridge which helps me keep on track with dinner & lunch).

lizziesnips · 08/06/2022 11:45

@CottonBallsUp That is a good question. My main problem is when I start eating something sweet, Like ice cream or chocolates, I cant stop and crave more.
A low carb diet helps to reduce the cravings, but I always seem to give in eventually and find it really hard to get back on track.
I hope everyone is doing ok.

lizziesnips · 08/06/2022 12:10

I meant to say @stairgates

EmmaH2022 · 10/06/2022 10:24

How's everyone?
lost a pound this week but went out last night and had wine and cake.

trying to fast today!

JenniferWooley · 10/06/2022 19:44

I realised today that I've not had a fizzy drink all week & obviously haven't missed it if I've not been bothered enough to notice until today so I'm ticking that goal off as achieved.

I also refused the Friday afternoon bun run at work today & had a satsuma while the rest of the office tucked into cream cakes - they think I've been replaced by an alien imposter 👽

DD1's baby shower this weekend so I'll need to try & be good - I'll be too busy hosting & organising games during but my downfall will be picking bits when I'm making up the buffet in the morning!

@EmmaH2022 I have factored a glass of wine into my calories tonight & tomorrow!

How is everyone else getting on this week?

EmmaH2022 · 10/06/2022 21:15

Jennifer
i'm impressed. Avoiding eating junk food at work is the hardest thing for me.

JenniferWooley · 12/06/2022 08:44

Early weigh in due to baby shower today - 2.5lb lost & I've lost 2cm's from my hips 😀

Wish me luck for today & send me avoid the egg mayo sandwiches vibes 🤣🤣 I will be making a platter with carrot & cucumber sticks, peppers & cherry tomatoes so will try to just pick from that!

EmmaH2022 · 12/06/2022 11:39

Jennifer that's great, well done. Hope the shower is okay.

EmmaH2022 · 16/06/2022 02:49

How is everyone?

I had a splurge at the weekend and now awake at nearly 3am and eating ice cream. Weigh in will be interesting. Eek.

JenniferWooley · 16/06/2022 14:05

I've had a so-so week so far.

DD1 gave birth yesterday (2 & a half weeks early) so lots of running about to get cribs & prams from her grandparents house left little time for a proper dinner.

I'm working through lunch today so I can get away early to go visit my new favourite person 💙

I'm looking forward to lovely long walks with baby which will help my weight loss!

@EmmaH2022 it's a blip put it behind you & move on no point in dwelling on it

EmmaH2022 · 16/06/2022 14:54

Jennifer

congratulations! Hope mum is well.

oh I'm not dwelling, it was just an observation. I have no intention of going treat free! 😂

struggling with my boiling hot flat so not sure what I'll be able to eat today.

TalkToTheHand123 · 16/06/2022 16:40

Putting in a few extra chips or chicken nuggets, pizza, hot dogs left over.

I was defrosting the freezer and forgot to put the power back on so have had a last feast supper and trying to not buy any more chips, pizza or nuggets. Hoping to notice a difference in the next week or two.

I've managed a couple of days without alcohol too.

TalkToTheHand123 · 16/06/2022 16:41

Forgot to add I can totally relate to the 'starting after x' 😂
