I have been trying to lose weight for 20 years and yet today I am the biggest I have ever been. Anyone want to join me in a last ditch attempt to make this elusive lifestyle change?

I'm really really trying not to be self critical and get into self hatred as I do believe the latest science e.g. the obesity code etc

i also know how to do it and what works for me (in the short term). But yet i take an age to get started....false starts and then get into a flow and lose a significant amount of weight....3-5 stones usually. Then slip, slip abit more, fall entirely off the wagon. Put even more weight on and then take a year to get back into the right frame of mind to start again.

I'm approaching the right mindset again but I really think I'm going to have to consider surgery if I can't do it this time. I know it's a lifestyle choice etc etc but as of yet I haven't had the mental fortitude to do it and keep
doing it. I have some barriers (excuses) to overcome but I am so sick of this weight - more mentally to be honest than physically.

For once I am starting right now - weighed myself in prep for starting after my birthday but I'm so scared by the current number that I have started right now. Skipped dinner and having a black coffee. Normally I spend a few weeks eating like shit because so know I am starting a diet (which is soooo messed up and disordered).

so have a goal to lose 5lbs (5 stone feels too much right now) which will bring me below my highest weight ever and will take it from there.

Anyone else want to join?

I.recommend intermittent fasting and calorie counting. I enjoy writing my food plan for the day!

I do not do 16:8, more like 14:10 but it works for me. I am fairly disciplined and keep in check once I am calorie counting. I know the calories of most foods and snacks.

When eating out, I tend to overestimate the number of calories as more oil, butter and sugar will be used compared to homemade food. I will also make this my main meal of the day.

JenniferWooley · 22/05/2022 18:34

First week done!

I have lost 1lb - better than nothing & I wasn't expecting much to be fair as my period showed up on Friday.

I'm planning on getting up early tomorrow & attempting some beginners Pilates on YouTube (live in an upstairs flat so anything bouncy is out for home exercise).

My weekly goal is to go for a decent walk at least 3 days next week.

EmmaH2022 · 22/05/2022 19:39

Jennifer good for you!

I have to set some goals. There's issues with variable work hours and caring duties but I need to start on a routine. Also decluttering home - convinced that sort of untidiness and weight issues are all part of the same problem. So I have realised I need to set a routine, including meal planning.

sadly I find meal planning dull but it's got to be done.

i have done a 30 min workout today but it was quite hard.

Believeinyou · 23/05/2022 09:21

morning all - well week one and I've lost 8lbs! Am chuffed but really this is probably water. But first goal is met so I am no longer the heaviest I've ever been.

it has motivated me to keep going though. So next goal is 11lbs which brings me into the next stone bracket.

@EmmaH2022 what u say about untidiness and being overweight def rings a bell with me. My always been thin friends are very tidy, organised, and routine based. I am messy, disorganised and chaotic

I couldn't sleep last night, broke into the Jubilee biscuits and ate 5.

i haven't done anything that dumb for weeks. Blush

8lb in a week? That's amazing! Well done!

how did you do it?

stairgates · 23/05/2022 09:43

Thankyou for the thread and sharing everyone, I am at the point of needing to get some of this unnecessary extra off too.

Put it behind you and move on now. Have a great day!

CottonBallsUp · 23/05/2022 11:26

Wow, 8lbs - that’s fantastic. Well done!
I need a mini goal so I’m going to go for getting to 13.5 stone which would mean I am no longer the fattest I’ve ever been. Not exactly aspirational but feels manageable. Have been feeling quite zen with 16:8 and trying to up protein and veg so let’s see if it can impact on my weight too.
Wishing everyone a happy Monday!

Believeinyou · 24/05/2022 07:07

@EmmaH2022 I've been doing 16:8 everyday, plus low carb/moderate fats, no processed food at all. So basically meat, fish, eggs, cheese, berries, veg, olive oil/coconut oil, nuts and full fat dairy

no processed food, pasta, bread, potatoes, crap, at all

it's a way of eating i have done a few times before and ive always had better success with this than other types of diets. Don't feel hungry on it and sugar cravings go. I do need to do more mindful eating though as I still have to finish my plate and eat when i'm not hungry just cos i can in my window. Having read a few things and even though i'm not diabetic i do think i have insulin resistance issues. I just need to find a way to live with this style of eating forever.

Believe thanks.

Low carb is definitely not for me. I might have to start calorie counting.

I think I need to rethink my workouts. I like a tough workout as it helps me sleep, but the last few times I have been so tired the day after! Getting old. 😂

CottonBallsUp · 24/05/2022 13:18

Was doing ok ish with lower carb but caved at lunchtime and had a twirl and some crisps with my meal. However I’m going to treat this as an experiment in sugar tolerance and see how it makes me feel in terms of hunger and cravings.
Not feeling very motivated as I know the 16:8 method on its own won’t make me lose weight quickly and I usually do best with a big loss kickstart. On the other hand I’ve not had any luck at all with any recent approaches at reining in my eating so maybe I should just celebrate not eating like a pig.
I’m impressed by anyone that likes hard exercise EmmaH!

elizabethdraper · 24/05/2022 13:32

Just careful with 16:8
3,000 calories are still 3,000 calories no matter what time you eat them at

You need to make sure you are sticking to the cut calories to keep you in deficit but not cut them too much.

if i go below 1800 calories, i wont be lose weight.

EmmaH2022 · 24/05/2022 19:02

I should add - my definition of hard exercise is easy for most. Sorry. I should have been clearer. My sister thinks my workouts are easy. But my arms and shoulders are killing me today!

i might need to cut back as I don't burn that many calories and they might make hungrier.

i seem to be gaining back the 4lb I lost due to the stress of the move falling through. Also I smoked for about a month around that period so that probably contributed to the loss.

elizabethdraper · 25/05/2022 20:56

The most important part of losing weight is eating enough, not starving yourself. This causes binging

CottonBallsUp · 27/05/2022 09:44

How’re people getting on? I’m still doing ok, and have started to integrate the No S approach - no sweets (desserts), no seconds and no snacks. Is helping me to avoid the accidental 3000 kcal between 12-8 issue as above!

EmmaH2022 · 27/05/2022 10:15

Hi Cotton

Well done. I never have seconds but sweets are definitely an issue.

Bit of a mystery over here. I thought I'd regained my 4lb stress loss, but now 3.5 has gone again. It's been very humid so maybe the regain was just water!

I have now put all the Jubilee food at mum's, yay.

I am going to do an easier workout today as then I will have a smaller dinner.

annonymousse · 27/05/2022 11:05

Can I join please. I weigh more now than I did when I was 9 months pregnant. I've ordered the why we eat too much book and hope it will help something click in my head. I'm so fed up of feeling disgust when I look at myself. I'm fed up of puffing and panting when I walk and the knee pain from carrying all this extra weight. I don't want to be a super model I just want to feel more healthy and have more energy to do nice things.

AbsolutelyLoveIy · 27/05/2022 11:08

I need therapy

I have
a dog
a gym
time
money
a gym membership
a fit and active husband
Obesity related conditions

and I am still fat, 15 stone, desperate and fed up.

EmmaH2022 · 27/05/2022 12:59

Anon and lovely

Sorry you are feeling down about it. I have days like that too Flowers

stairgates · 28/05/2022 10:21

The S thing is interesting! I never heard that before 🙂 It is half term here so for me that is a good thing as I am less stressed so I will be aiming to have a really good eating week hopefully. My DH asked if I had lost weight, which I hadnt, but I have been using my resistance bands each day just for arm stuff so hopefully I have changed a bit of fat to muscle which is fine by me!

QueenofDestruction · 28/05/2022 10:29

I will join you

QueenofDestruction · 28/05/2022 10:36

I started exactly 1 month ago and have lost 11pounds but have a few stone to lose. I am doing calorie counting via myfitnesspal and only eat between 12pm and 8pm. I am also eating lower carb not low carb. How is everyone managing? I am starting to struggle this weekend because I just feel like snacking 🍿

beachcitygirl · 28/05/2022 11:00

Can I join. Realised I feel like shit being so heavy & it's making me narky & miserable. :(
I've got 5 stone to lose but I'm going to start with a 7lb goal
