Would you rather do two hours in gym which you don’t mind, or hitt

I don’t mind the gym too much I do treadmill
And crosstrainer bikes stepper
Do about hour and half to two hours then a swim steam shower
Obv this takes up a lot of time and dh suggesting o should be doing hitt instead

I usually zone out in the gym and watch YouTube when I’m
On the treadmill etc

For me hiit every time. I joined a gym just before covid hit and then started hiit.when it closed. I found the gym time consuming and boring. However mine was a basic gym with no sauna or steam room. I prefer hiit because I can be done in 30-40 mins including a shower after.

I think though it depends on what you value more and how likely you are to stick at it. The gym sounds like it gives you the me time you need op. Do you and your husband get equal leisure time?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 21/02/2022 19:10

Well
Tbf I get more than him perhaps

HIIT, I like to work smart, hours in the gym is so boring. Hiit is fast and varied. I lost weight and toned up very quickly.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 21/02/2022 19:11

Do
You really find hitt just as effective as it seems too good to be true

How often do you go? If it isn't equal perhaps you could forfeit a gym session for hiit sometimes? Then you get the best of both worlds and you and dh get equal leisure time. Maybe you could do hiit together?

Cotswoldmama · 21/02/2022 19:14

Hiit definitely, not that I can compare to the gym because I've never been! But that's why hiit is so good, it's slots in from home and my results are great. I have been running for nearly 2 years but I started doing Chloe ting workouts in the last 6 months (especially when the weather's bad, I hate running in the rain!) and my abs look amazing!!

Roominmyhouse · 21/02/2022 19:14

If you are doing 2 hours are you getting your heart rate up enough for it to be doing anything?

DetailMouse · 21/02/2022 19:15

I don't like HITT. I'm not at all convinced by the science. Yes if you really work to the max, perhaps but the vast majority don't

For me, I think the most likely outcome is injury. I'd rather go for a 2 hour run than spend it in the gym though!

WildFlowerBees · 21/02/2022 19:15

I do hiit 3 mornings a week for an hour. It's been 5 months, I've lost 2 dresses sizes and just over a stone. Im still about shocked at how quickly it's happened. I love the sessions no two are the same and everyone in my group is really nice. I feel great afterwards.

Pyri · 21/02/2022 19:16

Definitely HIIT!

Preferably weights though

I agree with this - the people saying they’re doing an hour of HIIT just isn’t possible

But the more intense exercises of doing 40 seconds on / 20 off or AMRAP are good

Stellaris22 · 21/02/2022 19:19

Gym for me rather than HIIT. I go to a PT twice a week and have four routines tailored to me to do every week (but routines change every 3 months). It takes 1-1 1/2 hours depending on how much cardio I do extra.

I love my routines and do cardio on top of it. It's my 'me time' and it's great, lost 35kg doing this so it def works!

PurpleDaisies · 21/02/2022 19:21

I love HIIT

What are you doing for two hours in the gym?!!

nancybotwinbloom · 21/02/2022 19:40

I go to rave fit and clubbersize. Burns about 600-700 calories in 45 mins.

We have glo sticks. I love it.

dipdye · 21/02/2022 19:41

Is rather just eat less

I am deeply skeptical of the number of calories supposedly burnt here
StarsAndSugarlumps · 21/02/2022 21:41

I think it seems on whether you are an endurance type person, or a sprint type person.

I am an endurance type person and LOVE spending a couple of hours in the gym.

Those who are doing HIIT for an hour … how does that work? I thought the idea was that it was short bursts.

Who is Chloe Ting or is she a typo 😬. Looking for fab abs but bit worried to Google that name! 🤣

Chloe Ting is an Australian online hiit instructor. She is really good Smile

I’m interested to know where that calorie burn has come from. I do Zumba all out for an hour and my Fitbit has never registered higher than around 400 calories (and I’m sceptical it’s that high).
Yogurtpotofdoom · 21/02/2022 22:22

What do you enjoy doing?

I absolutely fucking detest exercise like HIIT even though its meant to be 'better' because it gives faster results. It isn't better for me and it doesn't give me faster results, because I hate it so bloody much that I stop doing it after two days.

Whereas I enjoy just getting on an exercise bike, putting my music on and doing about 45 minutes. I could do that everyday. So will actually yield better results because I do it everyday.

gingerhills · 21/02/2022 22:23

I love HIIT

nancybotwinbloom · 21/02/2022 22:57

It's from my Fitbit. It's always somewhere in between.

Not looked the last two weeks to be honest as I haven't had it in but all December and January, this was what it said I had burnt.

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 22/02/2022 15:24

Gym! I go 3 times a week - 30 minute treadmill run (5k) then 25 lengths of the pool. then 10 minutes in the sauna. Bliss time.
I listen to a podcast when I'm on the treadmill or watch a bit of YouTube. HITT looks like everything I hate about exercise. It should be enjoyable

Stellaris22 · 22/02/2022 15:37

That's why I avoid HIIT. I do a bit of circuits twice a week with my PT, which is incorporated into my workout routines. I'm happy to do the treadmill several times a week but those 'high calorie burning' classes just look horrible and far from my version of fun.
