@EachandEveryone, same! I went up on Sunday to 1.2 and expected to notice the difference but I don't. I'm hungry as usual and eating whereas before I felt like I could take it or leave it.

EachandEveryone · 08/03/2022 21:45

Oh well if this vial doesn’t work I won’t bother again. For the first three days I really didn’t fancy eating much but the side effects were doing that I think.

GiBlues · 10/03/2022 16:04

Hi all,
I’ve been lurking here for the past few weeks.
I’m now 2 1/2 weeks in on Saxenda and have lost 8.5 lbs.
I’m taking between 0.6 and 1.2 at the moment and feel like it’s stills working. The snacking and cravings have gone and I definitely feel full up quicker.
All in all I’m really happy with it so far, fingers crossed it carries on working I want to lose another 25 lbs.

Treadlightly · 12/03/2022 10:58

I've ordered a pen & it's in the fridge but I'm a bit nervous about trying it!
What time do you all take it?
Is it better to do it in the morning?

FiFTM · 12/03/2022 14:31

I tried saxenda but found it was only a bit helpful, and the daily injection wasn't great. I'm on Ozempic now and I find it amazing, once weekly injection and I'm on the 1mg dose and my appetite is so much smaller. I'm down about 2 and 1/2 stone in 4 months

bellac11 · 12/03/2022 21:21

Hi everyone I have just found out about this stuff and found this thread.

Im actually quite angry that Ive never been told about this by the GP, I had a fright last year when my blood pressure was through the roof and lots of the discussion was about my weight (horrendous, need to lose 8/9 stone) and how weight loss would solve a lot of my problems, but he never mentioned this stuff to me. He talked about orlestat which to be fair I said I didnt want due to having slight IBS symtoms which I knew the orlestat would make worse and that seemed to be that.
I havent even been asked to come in for a check up for the blood pressure. Plus I kept getting told to buy my own monitor to test my blood pressure rather than turn up at teh surgery, problem being I cant find one that goes round my fat arms that is also short enough to fit between my armpit and elbow. The surgery 24 hour monitor they tried to give me wouldnt fit.

So I have some questions if anyone knows

  • has anyone managed to get this from their GP
  • how would one decide whether the saxenda or the wegovy or the Ozempic is the best one to go for
  • is anyone losing energy by having quite a low calorie intake and is this affecting people's ability to do exercise
  • has anyone with a history of depression found it affected their MH
FiFTM · 12/03/2022 21:59

I think saxenda is available on NHS now, depending on your location... Ozempic is only licensed as a diabetic drug at present so you need to pay for it as an unlicensed use, but I've found it extremely effective, my appetite is way down but I still consume enough calories to keep energy levels ok. I'm only out walking, nothing strenuous but the pounds are coming off. The drug in Ozempic will be available soon as a licensed weight loss treatment from what I gather. To be honest, a lot of GPs aren't totally up to date on the treatments available, but this genuinely could save people from having to have gastric surgery, is safer and a fraction of the price. You can address your poor eating habits whilst on this as it can take away those overwhelming urges to binge, I've never found anything that compares to this. I was considering a gastric balloon before I found Ozempic, but this is cheaper and has produced much better results than I expected

bellac11 · 12/03/2022 22:10

Thank you, so I can now see that wegovy and Ozempic are the same, except for the license. However I dont have diabetes (yet) so even if I went online for Ozempic, would I qualify for that?

In addition, what is the exact difference, they both say in their blurbs that they work on emptying the stomach slower and reducing appetite that way?

Even getting an appoint for something basic and urgent at my GP surgery is a nightmare so am not sure if I can face the humiliation of going through it all to be refused. Although I know that isnt a big thing in the big scheme of things.

bellac11 · 12/03/2022 22:11

I mean what is the exact difference between saxenda and ozempic (wegovy)

FiFTM · 12/03/2022 22:28

They are the same family of drug, but Ozempic is a once weekly injection Vs once daily. For me I found it more effective than saxenda, it seems to be more effective looking at the licensed version Wegovy in the US. So of you go online you will be prescribed it for Weight loss, but as an unlicensed use, so you have to be ok with the fact that it's not on the UK market for use for weight loss if you get me?

FiFTM · 12/03/2022 22:29

The drug in saxenda started out as a diabetes treatment before they brought out saxenda brand for weight loss

bellac11 · 12/03/2022 23:03

I cant seem to get it prescribed online for weight loss, just trying some online pharmacies in the last half hour or so, once I say that I dont have a diagnosis of diabetes, it just stops the consultation and says cant prescribe

From what I have read, it does seem it might suit me better,, the list of side effects seem slightly different and I read a couple of studies saying that it was slightly more effective perhaps than saxenda

FiFTM · 12/03/2022 23:26

I don't know if I'm allowed to post links to websites?? I have used a pharmacy called quickmeds before, and mybmi .co.uk, they provide it for weight loss, I think Wegovy is coming v soon though, it will be licensed and be a higher strength

bellac11 · 12/03/2022 23:28

Thank you very much, Ive now managed it with pilldoctor and went with the lowest strength for one month to see how I get on.

AnnaMagnani · 13/03/2022 18:00

Saxenda and Ozempic are different drugs that work the same way. Ozempic and Wegovy are exactly the same drugs but Wegovy is a higher dose.

The evidence appears to suggest Ozempic is more effective than Wegovy (and some posters on this thread who have tried both seem to agree) and Wegovy is the most effective of all - understandably as it is the highest doses of the lot.

However some people don't respond at all, if you don't put in the work yourself you get nowhere as none of them are magic bullets. I definitely have seen people on them for diabetes who aren't losing weight, they aren't even getting side effects - I don't know how as I'm chugging Gaviscon if I eat over 400 calories or even look at a chocolate bar.

Online, if you are paying hard cash and have the right BMI, of course you will qualify. It's a business. No idea what the NHS is doing.

AnnaMagnani · 13/03/2022 18:09

OK, I looked it up - according the NHS website you are only getting Saxenda through a specialist weight management service, and then only if you have failed Orlistat and have other high risk conditions.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/obesity/treatment/

Despite this, when I log on to order my repeat prescriptions, I note that my GP's website offers to sell me Saxenda if I'm interested. So again, if you are offering cold hard cash, apparently you can have it. On the NHS, not so much.

bellac11 · 13/03/2022 18:37

Thanks, I think thats unfair that you have to go through Orlistat as I know I wouldnt get on that, an Orlistat is aimed at reducing fat absorbtion and for me I know that I fare better at controlling my cravings if I eat a higher proportion of fat to carbs so that definitely would have me just having accidents I think

I wont know for a while (72 hours) whether Im able to get the Ozempic, hopefully I will get it

And above, people saying that Ozempic is more effective than wegovy, I presume that information is from the USA as you cant get wegovy here yet? In addition that is quite odd because wegovy is simply a stronger strength than ozempic.

AnnaMagnani · 13/03/2022 19:08

No, you have the wrong end of the stick.

Ozempic and Wegovy are the same thing but Ozempic is a lower dose than Wegovy.

People are saying Saxenda may be less effective than Ozempic. Which is not to say that Saxenda is not effective because it is, and it suits some people better than Ozempic, however the studies suggest Ozempic is a bit better and Wegovy is the best of all.

Personally I can't see how anyone put up with being on the Wegovy doses - so everything has it's pluses and minuses.

You said in your post above that people are reporting that Ozempic is more effective than wegovy. Did you mean Saxenda then?

thats why I said it doesnt make sense to me because wegovy is simply a stronger version of Ozempic. Why would Ozempic be more effective?

AnnaMagnani · 13/03/2022 20:49

Oh God, did I?

I did, didn't I. When will there be an edit button!

bellac11 · 14/03/2022 08:16

No worries! Im easily confused anyway

Well the goods news is that I had an email this morning from pilldoctor which seems to indicate that my order went through, asking me to put my weight on the order form for future reference.

This week since returning from a holiday I am 7lbs down by eating about 1000 cal a day, obviously most of that is water loss but it helps me feel positive.

Allornothing234 · 14/03/2022 11:40

Hi,

I took my first injection of 0.6 this morning. Injected and held in for a slow count of 6 but when I removed the needle there was a drip size amount of liquid sitting on my stomach.
Not sure how much actually went it. Has anyone experienced this?
Thank you!

Orangemoon77 · 14/03/2022 11:57

@Allornothing234 probably just a drop left on the needle that fell on to you. The first injection I did I was convinced it hadn’t gone in as I didn’t feel it and had a little drop on my thigh. So don’t worry, it went in.

Good luck and welcome to Saxenda!

Orangemoon77 · 14/03/2022 11:59

How’s everyone getting on? Just ordered my next 3 pens, tried Asda this time. Really easy!

3.5lb weight loss this week, I’m chuffed as last week was very disappointing so made up for it. My next decision is whether I go from 2.4mg to 3mg or stay put. Is anyone on the full dose?

BeHappy91818 · 14/03/2022 12:08

JuSt found found this thread..

I took saxenda last week for a full 7 days at 0.6 and I felt sick for 3 days and I had Diarrhea straight for 6 days. I was waking up 5+ times a night running to the bathroom. I felt so so crap Iv stopped taking it but want to restart next week.

Dreading the side effects again!

Has anyone else had this problem? I know it’s common side effects but I was getting next to no sleep days on end!
