Can I join you? I've put on a hideous amount since childbirth and being ill and desperately want to make a new start in 2008 but need some help to keep on the straight and narrow. I'm planning on healthy eating/portion control and a small amount of exercise (I'm a bit limited in that still but hope to build up). What are you planning on doing?

chocolatespiders · 31/12/2007 16:06

2008 will be my year to lose as weel i cant do another year like this...

3 stone to lose >>>> aarrggghhhh

CountessDracula · 31/12/2007 16:07

I need to lose a stone
I would like to lose a bit more!

pinkspottywellies · 31/12/2007 16:13

I'm going to try to cut down portion sizes and snack on fruit instead of junk! I'm also going to exercise at least 4 times a week. I do yoga and exercise dvds. Good Luck everyone and Happy Healthy New Year!

fedda · 31/12/2007 17:32

Can I join, please. I'm going to start on 7/01 eating poridge or fruit for breakfast, soups for lunch and salads with evening meals. Exsersise - walking and sometimes dancing after everyone is in bed - around 10-ish.

HappyNewYear2008 · 01/01/2008 09:45

i am joining you. i did paul mckenna about a year ago and it was very easy and i was losing weight - the idea is retraining your mind to eat like a 'thin' person ie when you are hungrey and stopping when you are satisfied. but because you can eat whatever you want i got a bit cocky and was eating when wasn't hungrey and the weight loss stopped. also exdp was very unencouraging as he could see any work going into weight loss
so i am going with this idea of eating only when i am hungry and not because someone else is eating or it's lunch time etc and i am going to try to walk every day.
i have a excerise dvd - davina but i don't know if i can be bothered with that yet it's quite hard.
4 stone to lose!

Weegle · 01/01/2008 10:09

Happy New Year everyone!

I've got 4 stone to lose too, I weighed myself this morning and the shame has given me a good kick start.

I also need to learn to stop when I'm full and I'm going to only snack on fruit.

What is everyone doing for breakfast? I hate porridge which is the obvious choice but I need some ideas for variety as I get bored having the same thing day in day out.

Good luck everyone, here we go!

fedda · 01/01/2008 13:42

When I don't eat poridge I have 2 apples or some berries or other fruit, total 100%fat free greek yougurt is nice and creamy and you can have some on it's own with bluberries which will make it sweeter, I snick in a teaspoon of honey sometimes. Frshely squized juice is good. there is no harm in having a piece of toast with some grape fruit sweetener jam form time to time for breakfast, I think.

notolerance · 01/01/2008 20:47

OK Guys lets go for it!! Am starting tomorrow as that's when dh goes back to work, please keep me company in this long & boring venture

fedda · 01/01/2008 22:11

Okay, I'll try my best. It's not boring to be slim.

Judy1234 · 01/01/2008 22:58

You need to change your eating habits for life rather than eat very little. Cut out junk food. Eat 3 balanced meals a day and don't have snacks. Eating good food is not boring and after a while you get used not to eating bad stuff.

Breakfast - I usually have bacon, eggs and brown rice. It's very yummy.

fedda · 01/01/2008 23:03

I need my snacks! i snack on unsalted nuts/fruit/berries/vegies but i simply can't just have 3 meals a day and smaller meals sometimes are easier for me then 3 big meals. I don't like bacon as it's too salty for me. I much preffer fruity or oaty start.

RandZsMummy · 01/01/2008 23:07

Hi never posted here before but can I join you please ive got 6 stone to lose and I am hoping to lose as much weight as possible by 1st march (going to visit dhs parents and cannot be bothered with the looks and comments they give me ) I have been trying over the last 4 weeks (don?t celebrate Christmas) but I seem to have lost my will power over the last couple of days and I need to get it back!

fedda · 01/01/2008 23:15

Don't worry about comments and looks. Do it for yourself, not them. If they don't see the best things about you because of your weight it's their loss, not yours.

RandZsMummy · 01/01/2008 23:18

thanks fedda i try and tell myslef that all the time but after 6 yrs of it its really starting to piss me off

fedda · 01/01/2008 23:25

I really feel for you. The stories I hear from my friends about their in laws drive me mad. try to find something to make them stop doing it. May be just ask them whehter they are all right when they look at you like that. See if your kids can take unexpected photos of them when they are looking at you and have a family photo show. May be when they see themselves being so ugly they'll not want to do it anymore. I wish you good luck. you were not treated well and nobody should be treated like that!

susianne · 01/01/2008 23:26

Good luck everyone
can i join to as i need to lose weight. i now have my son to do it for and i was doing ok before i had him.
I have a good 5 or 6 stone to lose and a family wedding in october as an incentive.

set little achievable goals to encourage yourself but don't be to hard on yourself

good luck

RandZsMummy · 01/01/2008 23:33

thanks had so many arguments with dh about them they r from a culture where they seem to think that all that matters is the way a person looks I like the photo idea I will let ds loose with the camera when we go to visit!

MightyMoosh · 01/01/2008 23:42

I need to lose 10 stone, at least, Im really going for it and any tips gladly recieved!

fedda · 01/01/2008 23:56

Good for you. If they worry about looks let them see themselves.

timetochange · 02/01/2008 00:49

Hi and happy new year to everyone,

I'd love to join in please, I've got a good 4 stone to lose (not weighed myself recently) I was going to rosemary conley classes last year and managed to lose a stone and half put certain I've put it all on again so really need to knuckle down.

I've got a big family event planned for August and really don't want to look and feel like 'that fat bird'

I find it really difficult to stick to any kind of diet plan for longer than a couple of months because I'm such a faddy eater, I'm not overly keen on meat but will eat it, I hate all fish and don't like veg (apart from peas, potatoes, cabbage and can tolerate carrots)

I would really appreciate help and support to do this as a really want to do it now.

I don't normally do much exercise but plan to go for an hours walk each day and try out something more strenuous as I feel fitter.

timetochange · 02/01/2008 00:53

just wanted to add, I'm not too concerned about what the scales say, (I don't actually own a set) I'm currently in size 16/18 depending on where I buy and would be happy to comfortably get into a size 12.

Judy1234 · 02/01/2008 10:24

Most class plans for overeaters try to get people to eat at set meal times rather than snaking and grazing all day. You could have a planned snack between lunch and dinner may be but best to stick with something like breakfast 8am, lunch 1pm, snack 5pm, dinner 7pm. It's because we have lost the regular meal times in the UK that we probably have put on so much weight.

mustremembermyself · 02/01/2008 11:47

Hello, can I join in. I am too like timetochange 9 apart from the family thing in aug!)

I have started today - ds2 4 1/2 mths, but I forgot to stop eating like a pg woman!

I agree very much with the 3 meals a day thing. going to try making my own smoothies to fill up on in between, as I am a closet snacker.

notolerance · 02/01/2008 13:03

Hello every-one, how's your day going? It's really great to have so many people on this thread, hopefully we can keep each other going!
So far have eaten well today but we still have so many chocs & cakes left over I know it's going to be tricky this evening.
One hopefully big thing I'm going to do is not to drink any wine unless it's a Friday or Saturday night.
