Ok I didn't intend to have to lose weight like this was but a bad bought of depression and I am at 16st with a wedding dress to fit into that will fit me at 12st

I have joined the gym and I am willing to do any kind of diet to get into this dress, is it possible?

Every body is different so no one is to say, but you can definitely take a good amount off in that time! I'm going back to ww after having a baby, I dropped a stone in about a month and I was nowhere near as heavy as I am now. I like to use it for the first month or two to get me back in the swing of a healthier lifestyle, and your going to gym will also help massively Best of luck, you can do this!

immersivereader · 29/12/2021 01:58

Yeah you can definitely do that.

I'd go low carb.

So...

Scrambled eggs for breakfast

Big salad with a lot of protein for lunch

Casserole, soup, stews, salad, stir fries for dinner.

mobear · 29/12/2021 01:59

You could probably do that on the 1:1 Diet or something similar, if you are very disciplined.

immersivereader · 29/12/2021 01:59

Are you veggie, BTW?

Also, when I want I lose I go lower carb, rather than just low. So eat some potato, Lentils, sweet potato, butternut squash etc. As a rule I'd stay away from bread, pasta and in general any cakes, pudding, pastry etc. White flour basically.

JustLikeaJingleBell · 29/12/2021 02:40

Yes you can. If you exercise you'll see a difference after 3 months.

Low carb as pp.

I also need to lose weight again so I'll be back on chicken salad for work lunch, yoghurt for breakfast and meat and veg for dinner or soup.

It does help to have the MFP my fitness plan app to record your calories.

You'll feel hungry the first few days but your body gets used to it pretty quickly.

Eggs are always nice and filling.

I lost 4 stone in 6 months earlier this year and I was pretty strict with myself. You'd probably have to do a VLCD to get it off that quickly.

myfuckingfreezer · 29/12/2021 08:17

Yep. I went from 16 stone to 12 stone in 4 months. Get your steps in and watch what you eat. I went reasonably low carb but still had chocolate every evening! Big salads for lunch and normal meals for dinner, and I skipped breakfast as I'm not a fan anyway, so seemed easy.

Tableto · 29/12/2021 08:22

Yes, although of course every body is different, listen to your body and if you're always feeling super hungry or run our of energy etc then adjust what you are doing. Personally I'd base meals around proteins, I like quantity dense low calorie meals like stir fry etc, and find an exercise routine that works for you (remembering to take rest days). Don't focus too much on the scales, and remember to look after yourself and perhaps break it down into smaller, more manageable chunks.

gogohm · 29/12/2021 08:54

Yes, want a buddy ... I want to loose 3 to get into my evening dress for my cruise ;assuming not cancelled) in the summer

JulieGoods · 29/12/2021 09:14

Yes. I did last year (in total lost 6 stone) with intermittent fasting + Keto.

Stopped the Keto (but stuck with the fasting) in the summer and have gained back about half a stone (but 4lb of that being the last month) really looking forward to shifting it after the Christmas excess.

Read up about insulin resistance and you'll quickly see why Slimming World/Weight Watchers won't ever work long term for most people.

hellosunshineagainx · 29/12/2021 16:30

Thanks for all the tips, I forgot to say I am vegetarian. Eat eggs and dairy but not anything with a face!

I met a woman on Protein Priority Diet who has lost 6 stone since August on it. You can do it. She’s doing the low carb version.

cultkid · 29/12/2021 16:32

Yes that shouldn't be a prob as long as you've got 4 stone to lose if you get me. If I lost 4 stone I would be dead. But yes, losing the weight should be fine, go Keto xx

Oooh @hellosunshineagainx please can I join you? I lost nearly 3 stone on Keto two years ago but I've put all but 4lbs back on. I need to sort myself out and I'm planning to start on Saturday with low carb. I'm already cutting down my carb and sugar intake in preparation. I'll weigh in on Saturday morning and post here if that's O.K?

MajesticElephant · 30/12/2021 08:54

You probably could do it physically but you need to consider whether you should with any health issues you may already have. If you have liver problems for example, loosing weight to quickly can make them worse. Look after the body you have in the long term!

Caramellatteplease · 30/12/2021 08:56

No not healthily. 2lb a week is about the most healthily.

MajesticElephant · 30/12/2021 08:56

And before anyone piles on rolls their eyes for my hippy crap, this is exactly what happened to me… I listened to strangers on the internet and ignored my body which is why I am in the health shit now.

DaisyStPatience · 30/12/2021 08:56

The weight will melt off on the keto diet. There's nothing like it for rapid weight loss and once you get past the initial first few days of feeling yucky, you feel incredibly energetic too.

MN is not the place for health based weight loss. I am of the opinion that everyone on here is a size 4 and living off dust based on some of the diet advice spouted on here.

That being said, if you go and speak to your GP, a VLCD under medical supervision can be done.

MajesticElephant · 30/12/2021 09:06

@Xmasiscancelledagain totally agree, wish I had someone giving me that advice 2 years ago!

RowsOfHolly · 30/12/2021 09:08

You could but it probably won’t be the healthiest way, and you will probably put a lot back on.

Adopt a plan that averages no more than 2lbs a week but is a more normal / heathy way to eat? And choose another wonderful dress, and carry on losing weight gradually and healthily until you meet your overall goal?

zeromango · 30/12/2021 09:12

Absolutely I lost 5 stone in around as many months last year (Currently pregnant so definitely gained so back Grin) I found what worked for me was calculating my TDEE, and then eating that amount of calories. Low carb, lots of protein and intermittent fasting also worked a huge treat.
