I am working hard at losing weight but can’t really decide what I am aiming for - how do you set your targets and would you mind sharing.
Thanks

Just to add, I have no interest in being skinny. I long ago realised that isn't feasible for my body type - I have a 10 inch difference between my boobs/hips and my waist. If I lost the fat that creates that I would look very odd.

hullaballoo19 · 01/09/2021 10:22

I'm 5ft6 and goal is 10 stone. 9 and a half might suit me, but I've been 9 stone (about 11 years ago!) and I looked too thin.

toastfiend · 01/09/2021 10:25

9st10lbs to 10st3lbs for me. I'd be happy with 10st7lbs at the moment, though., urrebtly 10st13 and I look ok and fit comfortably into my size 12s, but I'd love to be a bit slimmer.

Lowest I ever got was 9st3lbs and I was eating only salad, grilled chicken and vegetables and running 5-8 miles a day, plus additional kettlebell workouts. It was a singularly joyless existence and I was mentally not well. Everyone told me I looked too thin and I look back at pictures now and I've got that "lollipop head" thing going on. I do think it's really interesting the huge range in weight at which people of the same height can look and feel good.

SweatyBetty20 · 01/09/2021 10:26

My fighting weight is 9.5 stone at 5ft6. I have a large frame and am pear shaped so I’ll never be thin - I went down to 8.5 after being in hospital after a car accident and looked awful.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 01/09/2021 10:27

Between 9 and 10.5 stone

Marlena1 · 01/09/2021 11:04

10 stone, anything less and I am really watching what I eat. 10 is perfect as I can still live and look slim.

CampervanQueen · 01/09/2021 11:16

166 cm and tend to be between 56 - 58 kg. I'm what I call a skinny pear! I have slim shoulders, defined waist and am heavier around the hips & thighs.

I run/work out 3 or 4 times a week, with a lot of incidental exercise (I do all my commuting on my bike), eat a 'sensible but not restricted' vegetarian diet, and to me the balance is about right.

CampervanQueen · 01/09/2021 11:18

Also, to add I'm early 40s. I 'could' slim down to around 54 kg but that would take some serious dieting/exercise and I have neither the time nor the inclination any more.

SolitaryTree · 01/09/2021 11:28

I’m 5”6 and most comfortable at around 10st give or take a few lbs.

garlicandsapphires · 01/09/2021 11:31

9 stone. It’s a struggle to stay there and impossible to get under.

Cazziebo · 01/09/2021 11:38

5ft 7' and feel best at 9st 7lb. I hover between that and 10st. Over 10st I feel flabby and uncomfortable.

I guess a lot depends on body shape. I've always been flat-chested athletically built and don't carry weight around my middle, even post-menopausal.

Housemovestress · 01/09/2021 11:47

Thanks everyone for responses - really interesting. So I am currently 9st 12/13 ish and am wondering if I just maintain or keep going. My boobs have disappeared, I am totally hourglass/pear shaped, small waist (27.5inch) but wide hips and chunky thighs - I do spinning around 2hrs per week sometimes more so am doing everything I can for my legs but they are chunky. Also I have had 2 c-sections and have horrible loose skin at the bottom of my stomach - so looks fine in underwear/bikini but horrible naked - however I think only surgery would fix (which I don’t want)

Plus I am 42 so understand the bum/face dilemma!

Extremely jealous of those who can be 5’6, 10st and size 10. At that height and weight I’m a size 14-16!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/09/2021 12:27

I’m 5ft 6 and my fighting weight is about 10/3. Currently 10/7. I wear a size 10 mainly, all my jeans are 28 waist (Levi’s). I feel a bit podgy after 18 months of commuting to my kitchen!

Daisydoesnt · 01/09/2021 12:31

5ft 6 and I think I look best at 8st 4- I’m currently a bit above that and it sits on my tummy which I hate. I’ve got narrow shoulders, a narrow rib cage and tiny boobs - I definitely don’t look gaunt or too thin.

JengaCupboard · 01/09/2021 12:34

@canichange

I got down to 10 stone 4 lbs for my wedding and was very slim. I did loads of running though, so I was very toned with it.

My ideal weight is 11 stone 7 lbs, but I find 12 stone a lot easier to maintain and I think I still look reasonable at that weight.

Currently 13 stone 8 lbs and hate it! Trying to do something about it though.

I must be much bigger built than some of the other posters! At anything below 10 stone I'd be tiny and would never maintain it. Just goes to show how different we all are.

Totally agree with this. I'm in a size 10 at 10.5 stone and my collar and hip bones stick out and my face looks sallow. I have quote broad shoulders and naturally quite big of boob so 11 to 11.5 suits me better.

When I was 20 - 25 and 'skinny' size 8 I was still over 9 stone, which is partly why I feel BMI is largely unhelpful. I'm a comfortable size 12 at up to 11.5 stone. I think i'm just a 'heavy' person?

paisley256 · 01/09/2021 12:38

I feel amazing at 10 stone. Since starting on Mirtazapine/Quetiapine combo I'm now a sluggish 12.5 and feel awful. I'll get there....slowly

Thimphu · 01/09/2021 19:12

In my twenties - around 9.5 st but fine 0.5 st either way.

In my forties, well I haven't been below 11 st [yet!]. That felt and looked a lot better than the 13 st 6 lbs I am now (I was nearly 16 st so by comparison I actually feel good and look a lot better) but I still felt I had another 0.5 - 1.0 st to lose. I am aiming for 10 st but...we'll see.

Ontherebound34 · 02/09/2021 06:20

At 5ft 6, if you can get around 8 and a half stone, you'll look pretty hot.

How do you know that when you don’t know the OP’s build? It’s right at the lower end of BMI and won’t look good or be achievable for many of that height.

PersephoneJames · 02/09/2021 08:37

10 stone I think… I started in January at 13 stone and have got to 10 and a half and am happy but at the top end of BMI normal and would like some leeway!

At my wedding I starved myself and got to 9 stone 6 and had a beautiful figure but I don’t want to live on soup and spanx again!

maofteens · 02/09/2021 08:46

Gosh I had to Google kg to stones - surprised people still use stones as a measurement!
Anyway, my daughter is 5' 6.5" and weighs about 10 stone. She's a size 10-12, 28inch waist in jeans and looks fab. Some of her friends are skinnier but she has a nice womanly shape. Luckily no food issues at all, eats when hungry, stops when full, doesn't snack.

Amdone123 · 02/09/2021 09:01

@canichange, thanks for your comment - I was beginning to think there's something wrong with me. 12 st would be great for me. I'll keep trying!

Badabingbadabum · 02/09/2021 09:18

9-10 stone. When I was younger I'd have said 8.5-9 but when I dropped below 9 st a couple of years ago (stress and not eating) it didn't look right on my post-two-banies body. As someone up thread mentioned 'concave and saggy'. I'm over 12 stone now and am overweight but still have shape to my body luckily.

Bananasarnie · 02/09/2021 11:56

I’m 5.5 and just under 9 stones. People say ‘there’s nothing of you’ but I’m small boned, no hips. I’m mid 50’s and extra weight goes straight to my waist and bust which I know has its cardiovascular risks and I look and feel unattractive and unhealthy.

Trying to keep lean but only running keeps my waist under 30” these days (29”).

I’m conscious of a family history of bowel cancer, stroke and high cholesterol. Trying to lower my risks and manage menopause symptoms and keep blood pressure in check. It all sounds so tedious though. I do envy people who have a more relaxed approach. I’m sure it has its health benefits and they seem to be ageing better and enjoying life more than me.
