I am working hard at losing weight but can’t really decide what I am aiming for - how do you set your targets and would you mind sharing.
Thanks

@Kakser 9 stone is a bmi 20 so I’m not sure why you think this is fat and “not in the healthy range”? I don’t think you’re naturally thin (“a bit under 9 stone”) if you “find it hard to stay” at that weight. Some women are naturally skinny even if they eat proper meals and treats, others have to restrict to stay that thin.

onelittlefrog · 01/09/2021 06:46

Just look at a BMI chart and see what is the healthy range for your height.

Mincepiesallyearround · 01/09/2021 06:54

Funny how different we all are! I’m 5.5 abs currently 148lbs which is 10.5 stone and I feel overweight. My goal weight is about 135 lbs (9.6 stone) but easier said than done! I’ve been as low as 128 lbs a few years ago and was ‘thin’ then and looked like I needed to put on weight.

OverByYer · 01/09/2021 06:55

I’m aged 49 and stuck at 11 stone 4.
I’d love to get down to 10 stone 10 but the weight won’t budge. I eat healthily and exercise.
I carry my weight on my thighs, so flat stomach and big bust/ thighs.
Would love to be slimmer

Milkbottlelegs · 01/09/2021 07:05

@onelittlefrog

Just look at a BMI chart and see what is the healthy range for your height.
I’d feel terrible at the top end of the BMI for my height. I think it all depends on where/how you carry weight. It all goes on round my middle and hips. If I put weight on every I wouldn’t mind so much.
picklemewalnuts · 01/09/2021 07:11

Interesting thread, I have the same decision to make! I'm aiming for the top end of overweight first, then I'll maintain there for a while before the last shove to the bottom end of overweight.

I think the excess skin from obesity needs to be factored in, although mine is reducing nicely.
I was always top end of healthy range anyway, and was told not to go lower by a personal trainer.
I'm a pear with a big frame. It's not going to work trying to be small!

ZombeaArthur · 01/09/2021 07:11

For me it’s between 9 and 9.5, which is about a size 8 for me. I have big boobs and anything less less than 9 looks very thin on me.

Mindyourbusiness22 · 01/09/2021 07:17

When I was losing weight I didn’t have a goal number. Chasing a number is pointless, should be about recognising when you are happy within yourself be that 8st or 18st.

AuntieStella · 01/09/2021 07:26

Under 9 st, which is at the lower end of healthy BMI

When I started losing weight, my aim was to get down to healthy BMI (ie under 11st 2 - the healthy range is anywhere between 8st 3lb - 11st 2lb) and then decide based on how it looked on my particular body frame.

I don't think being grossly and dangerously over weight (the 18st comment above) is a route to happiness.

fromyorktocork · 01/09/2021 07:26

I've recently dieted down to 10st (from 11st5) and that's pretty much my ideal. At that weight I'm an easy size 10 or 28 jeans, I don't have a tummy, my bum is 'neat' and I don't have visible fat on my back, shoulders etc. I'm quite curvy though, and fairly muscly, so that allows me to carry a bit more weight than some.

I laughed at the 'ass v face' concept. I have the same, but it's boobs v everything else. At my new weight, everything looks far better except my boobs, which themselves look much better in clothes (they were always a bit too 'busty' before), but are now distinctly 'lacklustre' in the flesh...

rookiemere · 01/09/2021 07:36

I'm just under 5ft 6. I looked and felt great at 10st 4 but anything under 11st was also good. Sadly due to menopause and greediness I'm stubbornly over 12 st.

applesarethebest · 01/09/2021 07:37

I'm 169 cm (5'6.5") and happiest at 55 - 57 kg (just under 9 st) but not more than that, personally.

That's a BMI of 19.5 - 20 and it works for me.

Dangermouse80 · 01/09/2021 07:39

Used to be 8.5 or 9 stone pre kids. Now 9.10 is my ideal but 10.3 is my sticking point. I have recently done lots of waist toning exercises and found that has really helped as I tend to carry my weight just round the middle no matter how much I weigh.

Rangoon · 01/09/2021 07:44

I am 5 feet 5 inches. My ideal weight is 8 stone. I am a few pounds over this and am abandoning junk food for a bit. I am small boned though so this could be too light for some people. I don't look curvy with extra weight as it just goes straight to my waist and stomach. I have two children and I'm in my fifties.

PolypGrunterPulpit · 01/09/2021 07:45

Gosh so much variation here. Nice to see despite being the same height we're not all identical, or supposed to be! I've not been under 10 stone since I was 20. Never felt overweight until popping out the kids and tipping over the max BMI. Aiming to get down to 11, ideally 10.5.

lazylinguist · 01/09/2021 07:48

I'm 49 and 5'6". I tend to hover around the 11st mark. I'd like to be about 10st, I think. I went from 13st down to about 10st 10 in the few years after last dc was born, but it crept slowly back up (probably never beyond about 11.5 though). I haven't weighed myself for several years, so I'm guessing really.

BoomChicka · 01/09/2021 07:49

@TattySlippers

I’m 5’7”. I feel good at 9 st 7. My body prefers to be 10 stone.
Ha are you me? I 'settle' at 10 stone 2 but aim for 9 and a half.. not achieved that for a while though!
Rangoon · 01/09/2021 07:49

I should say that I don't think I look older than I am although I am thin. Somewhat embarrassingly, people think I am much younger. I was asked who looked after my children when I worked late. I had to say one was studying medicine as a post graduate in another city and the other was at university. Neither were small children awaiting my return.

Monkeytapper · 01/09/2021 07:50

5ft6 and 10.3 stone, if I lose much more it goes from my face. I’m 43

happydays2345 · 01/09/2021 07:51

I'm just under 5 foot five, and would like to be eight stone six. Currently nine stone three after creeping up to 9 stone six

Greenandcabbagelooking · 01/09/2021 07:52

I look and feel best at 8 stone 10. I looked wonderful at 8 st 3, but it was after being very ill, and my periods stopped so not very healthy.

I’m currently 9 stone 6.

Baker90 · 01/09/2021 07:54

I'm always happiest between 9.5 and 10.5 stone. I've dropped (unintentionally) to 8.5 before and I hated it. No boobs or bum. I like having some curves. Currently 13.5 so miserable but working on getting my depression under control.

LadyFuschia · 01/09/2021 07:55

Until four years ago I’d been 9.2 since my early 20’s, but then I found a couple of pounds creeping on at Christmas that never went each year, and my weight has crept up to about 9.8 at the grand age of 41. I am also small framed - skinny wrists & ankles, smallish boobs. Ideally I think I look better back at 9stone as the weight is on my middle & thighs, but when I lost weight due to flu, and was 8.7, people said I looked gaunt. So I think for my age I probably look best around 9.4, but I’m not into being hungry & denying myself food that much that I will achieve it!

VaguelyInteresting · 01/09/2021 07:59

9st 7 I look too thin and it’s a full time job staying that weight

Somewhere between 10 and 10.7 stones is where I’d like to be (I’ll still have a slight tummy but I have internal organs so that’s fine)

Currently hovering between 12 stone and 12.7, gaining and losing the same half a stone over and over and over

Pinotwoman82 · 01/09/2021 08:07

I’m currently 9st 1 after losing weight over the summer from 9st 12. I look a lot better at this weight but my ideal is 8st 10. I was once 8st 3 but that actually didn’t suit me and I looked to gaunt
