Lasagne potion help please

Hi, we have homemade lasagne for dinner. I'm trying to lose weight and appreciate this isn't the best meal but thought a small portion with salad would be OK. I've tried to Google an appropriate portion size but struggling to find an answer. My portion sizes are usually huge. Does anyone have a rough idea? I have scales and can weigh.

Umm, it's going to be virtually impossible to say given no one other than you has a clue what went into it and how big it is.

For future reference, why don't you weigh and log the ingredients and portion it out that way.

tintodeverano2 · 18/07/2021 19:32

I think about the size of your palm is a good guide.

PegasusReturns · 18/07/2021 19:36

I’d think about 6x6cm

Fill up with lots of undressed salad.

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 18/07/2021 19:39

I have no idea what went into it either, I didn't make it! I'm not fussed about actual calories just a rough guide to portion size. Thanks though.

Palm size sounds like good advice. Thank you. It seems so tiny though Sad

I'd have as small a portion as possible, eat plenty of salad and then have tuna or chicken salad with wholemeal bread for a couple of days.

GreyhoundG1rl · 18/07/2021 19:45

No idea precisely, except it'll be a lot smaller than you think. Or want!

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 18/07/2021 19:47

Oh 6x6 seems marginally bigger than my palm.

I'm happy to be sensible again from tomorrow. I have just ended up with some lovely lasagne left that my husband made for someone to help them out so trying to indulge in a non ridiculous way.

Oh I know greyhound! That's why I'm asking. Devastated but need to stop eating the same quantity as a 6 ft 5 rugby player

Did you mean cm or inches...6 cm is absolutely tiny

Yes, it is. Maybe there are umpteen layers and it's very tall?

nc8765 · 18/07/2021 20:03

Palm sized (lasagne is very tall/stacked) and then fill the rest of the plate with salad - NO DRESSING.

peboh · 18/07/2021 20:05

I'd go palm sized as others have suggested. Lasagna is super high calorie (even using lower calorie ingredients it all adds up) and load up the rest of my plate with a nice big salad.

Comedycook · 18/07/2021 20:05

hate undressed salad...at least have a drizzle of balsamic

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 18/07/2021 20:07

I was planning on a tiny bit of dressing made of white wine vinegar, salt, pepper and a teeny bit of olive oil. Surely that's OK?

gamerchick · 18/07/2021 20:10

Not lasagna. It's no worth it the teeny bite you'll have to log.

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 18/07/2021 20:12

Just eat your normal portion size! Then be good after that.

Lasagna is good of the gods! It shouldn't be rationed!

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 18/07/2021 20:24

@bonjourfern normally I would agree with you. But 3 extra stone in the last year tells me no!

As a guide - palm of protein, full hand of carbs (oats, quinoa, sweet potato), thumb of fat.

Yes the portion is tiny.

thenewduchessofhastings · 18/07/2021 20:36

In future;lasagne with 5% fat mince with lots of finely chopped onion, carrot and celery, sauce with chopped toms or Passata with garlic/herbs etc

If you want to reduce carbs use sliced butternut squash (this is delicious),I top with a layer of mince and fat free garlic&herb cheese spread mixed with skimmed milk.

I love this and eat with half a plates worth of salad and fat free salad dressing and yes I have a huge slice and still lose weight.

You can still eat what you love making sensible changes
