325 -> 185 lbs - 10 Stone to Lose

koalaroobear · 18/07/2021 16:16

Hello,

I have been struggling with a huge weight gain, mentally and physically, and have nobody to keep me accountable. I'm starting this thread just to keep updates about what I'm eating and how much I'm moving.

Bit of background on me, in 2018 I lost approximately 7 stone and got down to just over 13 stone, I'm 6ft 1 so this was really good for me. After maintaining this for a few months, I began suffering from depression and have been putting weight on since around July 2019.

I'm now 325lbs and starting over. I'll keep this thread updated for accountability.

I've been in touch with the Health nurse at the GP and she has encouraged me to remove blame and emotion from the process, which is difficult!

I've started trying to brainstorm all the reasons I want and need to lose weight, beginning with:

  • Wedding dress - not yet engaged but hopefully in the next couple of years
  • Physical fitness - my knees and joints hurt
  • Fit into my old clothes

Wish me luck!

Good luck! Flowers I'm not blowing my own trumpet, but I started this thread a while ago. All positive reasons losing weight brings. I hope it helps to encourage you. Smile

Good luck!!! I have about 5 stone to loose so am really proud of you already for getting to a place where you are feeling ready

Ingloriousbasterd · 18/07/2021 20:00

Can I join, I've been making small maintainable changes like drinking water instead of fizzy drinks, not having sugar added to my tea etc. I would like to try doing keto for a few weeks, I did it before lock down and lost 30 pounds! Of course I've almost gained all of that back now and feel so terrible ..achy feet and hips ...I'm 14 stone 11 and my goal is to try to get down to 13 by September x

It's the worst feeling in the world gaining weight back! I'm hoping to take things much more slowly this time but sustain it better (permanent is the ultimate goal!) - I would love to share the journey, anyone is welcome in my books!

@kooalaroobear, thanks I am feeling better, it was a shock, but I have rinsed my hair and finished washing properly, just having some breakfast. It helped me to put everything down so I won't dwell on it but take more practical steps forward. Thanks again for your concern.

koalaroobear · 19/07/2021 07:39

@tomorrowalready I know the feeling of being stuck, I've stopped taking baths because I get panicked when I go to get out. I hope that your sister will be supportive of you in taking steps to lose weight, I will be here for you! It's so inspiring to hear from you.

I'm under a lot of stress at work and at home at the moment, I quite literally have a lot on my plate! However, my partner had a terrible health scare 3 weeks ago which has motivated me to be fitter and healthier, so that something similar doesn't happen to me and so that I can care for him as best I can.

Good morning Kooalaroobear, yes it is scary to realise such a mundane activity is becoming difficult and out of bounds. My sister will be understanding as we had this big discussion last week. Like you she is stressed at work and she has her own health problems and I have been trying to move closer to her for years but I am in HA property and have a cat (surprised cat) so it has been difficult to find a suitable property.

I hope you and your partner have a good day but don't push yourself to much in the heat if you are sensitive to it. I am going out to shop early which is an event in itself and unknown for me to be out early as I usually get there just before closing. It was so hot here ysterday I did not go out at all, walked round the garden after 10 pm with said surprised cat so not letting myself sleep this morning. Must go out and put washing on line (safely). Best wishes

73kittycat73 · 19/07/2021 10:53

Wow tomorrowalready that sounded really scary! That was very brave of you to share too. I also wish you well on your weight loss journey.
I had a week off, and I've put on 5lb. Blush In a week! I'm hiding all the chocolate again tonight.

tomorrowalready · 19/07/2021 17:34

Thanks,73kittycat73, I must admit I'm feeling a bit daft now. But writing stuff down helps get it out of my mind. I have really got to be careful.
Sorry you have had a bad week , is your diet normally very restricted? I suppose the difference registers even more when you do eat stuff you normally avoid. I have just had some sandwiches after not eating all day (fell asleep) and I find that i actually feel more hungry when I eat after a longish interval. I get low blood sugar if I don't eat regulary. But I also find this really hot weather puts me off eating.

73kittycat73 · 19/07/2021 20:18

Don't feel daft, you were honest and you never know, might help other posters in some way.
I've been dieting since February and have been pretty strict. I had been trying to stick to 1200 cals a day. But, I kept ending up binging once a week, on chocolate and ice creams. I fell off the wagon last week and decided to give myself an 'official' week off. That's where the 5lb came from! Blush

koalaroobear · 24/07/2021 21:09

I've had a rough couple of days, had a restructure announced at work which will make the next few months even more stressful.

My knees hurt so badly on the stairs and sitting down, I'm hoping as this is a relatively new thing it will disappear relatively quickly once the weight starts coming off.

I've done my meal plan for the week and will be going shopping tomorrow.

Can I hop on?

Lost 6 stone after my first baby after being overweight all my life.
Second pregnancy/lockdown/postnatal depression and I've gained it back (and then some!)
Hoping to lose it and maintain with calorie counting, I have 3 bin liners of size 10 beautiful clothes I used to wear and it breaks my heart seeing them sat there. I've lost all my confidence, I want to be slim again so I can stop living in leggings and bloody oversized shirts!!!

Good luck all!! We can do this.

koalaroobear · 25/07/2021 09:48

Welcome @Bonnie90x! Company is well appreciated. I have so many small clothes which I miss wearing.

I'm using Nutracheck to count calories, I find it much better than any other app I've tried.

OP posts:
Bonnie90x · 25/07/2021 11:39

Thank you @koalaroobear, I tend to use MFP but now I'm going to look at nutracheck. A new app might just give me a bit of novelty and motivation!

I find it much better as it has a British database of foods, I've never searched and not been able to find something! Let us know how you get on with it Smile

Quick Update:

I have so far lost 7lbs! I've been walking every lunch and counting my calories, and have 'played tennis' two afternoons.

OP posts:
ChunkyMonkey2020 · 17/08/2021 18:38

Hey. Well done on the 7lb loss. That's a great start.

Your starting weight is similar to what mine was. I started at 304lbs. I'm also really short so 304 was really bad for.

I'm currently at 222. 60lbs of that has been lost since February.

You can do this 🙌🏻

Bonnie90x · 17/08/2021 19:13

@koalaroobear that's amazing! Well Done!! I've not weighed myself yet - think I'm too scared 😨 but have been making healthier choices and trying to be a bit more active. Going to weigh in tomorrow and face the fear!!

AlfonsoTheMango · 17/08/2021 19:17

Best of luck, OP! The destination will be worth the journey.

koalaroobear · 09/10/2021 08:11

Got an induction at a new gym today and have signed up for 12 weeks of 3 boxing classes a week, with weigh ins to keep me accountable. I've treated myself to gym wear that actually fits and I can't wait to have fitness back in my life.

My wonderful partner got me an Apple Watch as an early birthday present to coincide with joining this new gym. I'm feeling good!

OP posts:
Ontherebound34 · 10/10/2021 08:13

Ooh lucky you with the Apple Watch! How is it all going? I can totally empathise with you. I lost a lot of weight during the first lockdown (around 3 stone) and then stress and depression took over and I gained half of it back. It’s such an awful feeling isn’t it? I could see it happening before my eyes but somehow I couldn’t stop binge eating. I finally took control by going low carb and for me it’s been a game changer and I am now back down to 3 stone lost. It’s just killed my carb cravings which makes such a difference. It’s not for everyone and I used to think it wasn’t for me but it actually is! There’s a low carb bootcamp starting on the 18th on here if anyone’s interested.
