325 -> 185 lbs - 10 Stone to Lose

Hello,

I have been struggling with a huge weight gain, mentally and physically, and have nobody to keep me accountable. I'm starting this thread just to keep updates about what I'm eating and how much I'm moving.

Bit of background on me, in 2018 I lost approximately 7 stone and got down to just over 13 stone, I'm 6ft 1 so this was really good for me. After maintaining this for a few months, I began suffering from depression and have been putting weight on since around July 2019.

I'm now 325lbs and starting over. I'll keep this thread updated for accountability.

I've been in touch with the Health nurse at the GP and she has encouraged me to remove blame and emotion from the process, which is difficult!

I've started trying to brainstorm all the reasons I want and need to lose weight, beginning with:

  • Wedding dress - not yet engaged but hopefully in the next couple of years
  • Physical fitness - my knees and joints hurt
  • Fit into my old clothes

Wish me luck!

Thanks @Ontherebound34 ! I'm loving the Apple Watch, I filled my rings yesterday and I found that a really great motivation - I used to have a Fitbit and loved the little animations when you hit goals like steps. Actually, I would say that it's the one thing Fitbit does better than Apple, incorporating fitness into mini games and challenges with friends. Having said that, there's a lot more my Apple Watch is capable of!!

I had my induction at the gym yesterday, really like the gym itself but didn't get on with the PT showing me round, so I'm just going to avoid classes with him!

It's the worst feeling in the world watching yourself gain weight and feeling out of control. I'm so pleased you managed to get back in control. I used to be really slim and fit, and I feel really motivated at the minute by the idea of feeling healthy like that again.

I've got my first boxing class at the new gym tonight and my first yoga class ever tomorrow, no idea what to expect in that and I'm feeling quite nervous!

All of this is a massive change to my routine which I don't cope well with but I'm going to push on!

Well that boxing class was intense! I hit 197bpm heart rate which I'm pretty sure is my absolute maximum. (220 - Age being the calculation). It was so much fun though and I can't wait for the next one.

I got really bad stomach cramps whilst cooking dinner, not sure if that was the length of time between meals or something, but I went for the healthy option rather than a quick and dirty option, so that's a massive bit of progress.

On to yoga tonight, no idea what that's going to be like but I'll give it my best shot!

Me and yoga don't go!! Perhaps when I am slimmer and have more strength, but for now I won't be going back to the class Grin

Good luck with your weight loss! I've got a fair bit to lose too. It's weird as I usually don't feel massive, but then I see photos or calculate my BMI and it's just shocking!

P.S. I hate yoga too! Grin

Imwearingtrousers · 12/10/2021 23:15

Great re the boxing, very well done! Stomach cramps could be the vigorous exercise possibly?

Wry good luck to you! I've done it before and I'll do it again, for the last time now. I'm so much happier when I'm slimmer and fitter.

TW - Eating Disorders

Just been having a think back to my gym induction and one thing is really sticking out and I'm not sure whether to make mention of it. We were at the rowing machines and I jokingly said 'oh I'll be sick if you get me on that' and the PT said 'oh well that's a good thing you can sick all that fat up'. Now I had an eating disorder which i don't struggle with anymore, but for someone with bulimia I imagine that could have been really negative.

Currently down just over a stone and a half Grin 6kg of that has been since joining the gym. I think being on a higher dose of my thyroid medication has made a massive difference too. I don't feel in any way deprived, just really really happy. It's my birthday on Friday and I'm looking forward to a meal out with my family.

@koalaroobear a stone and a half down is a fantastic achievement!

Now you are ‘on your route’ you can keep pushing forward and enjoy your success with every milestone. I was really pleased each time the number of full Kg went down.

The induction comment was indeed crass and thoughtless.
