Sparkler · 24/11/2007 20:49

Had to start a new thread peeps as the old one was too long to accept any new messages. How's it going?
I'm sad to say after my positive note on starting the previous thread, I'm having a terrible time of things. I've really slipped. So, I need you to all shout at me and get me back on track. I don't mind what you say or how you say it. I can handle it.

What's this week's password please ladies?

lurcherlass · 13/12/2007 20:02

"Skating" still works Chloe

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 13/12/2007 20:04

xmas dinner here tomorrow

i know what i should eat, but its not what i want to eat

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 13/12/2007 21:12

This weeks password: Chestnut

Lurcherlass: Yeah just tinned chickpeas, and no didn't fry them, just added small amount of olive oil just to make the spices stick. You need quite a bit of spice and salt to make them tasty, they can be quite bland otherwise. But I spose you can always add more afterwards if they're not tasty enough. I'd just mix together 1 tsp each of mild chilli powder, medium curry powder and paprika, and then sprinkle some salt over them when they're on the baking sheet.

kid · 13/12/2007 22:41

I bought a tin of chickpeas, just incase I fancied some! Sounds like a good way to use them so might give it a try myself.

I need to cook some more meals, I am just living off rice and pasta and its getting boring. But at least I am still sticking to it. My size 12 jeans are getting looser. I think I stretched them so I shouldn't really class them as a size 12 anymore But, a few weeks ago they didn't even fit me so I know I am doing very well.

I think its useful to measure yourself too as some weeks you might not lose much weight. I have lost just over 3 inches on my waist in less than 3 weeks. I am very proud of myself for sticking to this. I have tried so many times over the years to lose weight, it seems like this time I actually mean it!

lurcherlass · 14/12/2007 14:11

KID- find some new dishes quick! I fell off the wagon twice due to boredom, It's working better for me now I am planning a week ahead and having something different every day. You've done so well, don't stumble now coz your nosh is getting dull
Got my work do tonite, I'm gonna eat what I like, forget it and go back on SW tomorrow

Chloe55 · 14/12/2007 17:14

I find it helps to check out the recipes on the website, work my shopping list around them and then make them - I find it quite fun trying new dishes aswell. (The moussaka made with Quorn is disgusting imo!) I'm making lamb in redcurrant sauce tonight, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 14/12/2007 17:54

Had a bit of a demoralising day... went into one of those automated self cleaning toilets with my 4 month old in his buggy and all my christmas shopping, when suddenly an alarm went off and the door wouldn't close. A little light flashed to saye the weight limit was exceeded so I was just backing out when this overzealous attendant came bounding over probably expecting to find some amorous couple in there and on seeing me, and announced "IT WON'T WORK BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT" Yeah, thanks for that, captain bleedin' obvious.

So off I skulked (well, waddled with knees together) home and used my own bathroom, and tried to resist crying into a bag of maltesers. Bah.

So, the scales in superdrug say I've lost 2lb since monday. I want to make it 4lb ideally by monday night, what can I do to speed it up over the weekend? Soups and fruit? scanbran and natural yoghurt?

merryCHRISTIEmas · 15/12/2007 13:41

Managed to lose 2lb this week
I was very naughty last night tho' - we had our staff Christmas 'do' at a colleague's house and had a fab meal.
(Nigella's Ice Cream Cake - drool drool!!)

I'm hoping if I'm really good this week my excesses of last night won't have done too much harm!

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 15/12/2007 13:44

well i had breaded mushrooms, turkey and all the trimmings and ice cream for dessert.

i had 2 diet cokes, but they tried to charge us for 8bottles of coke lol.

also had a cappachino afterwards.

lurcherlass · 15/12/2007 15:20

Well JamesAndTheGiantBanana, I'd call that a triumph!! You were treated appallingly by this rude and insensitive man and yet you managed to bounce back, NOT find comfort in chocolate AND lose weight!! WELL DONE YOU ...and as for the toilet, I'd have to be desperately horny to get amorous in one of those would't you!!!

kid · 15/12/2007 18:27

I went to Burger King today, even though I really didn't want to. I had a flame grilled chicken salad while everyone else had burgers and chips. I have no idea how much the chicken was worth in sins, I'm on a green day so the chicken might have been allowed as a Hb. (I think the package said 82g of chicken)

I was so hungry when I got home, I had 1 cookie.

Also last night went a bit wrong. I was on a green day (I had savoury rice for lunch) and then I went and had a lamb shish kebab for dinner. I didn't have any mayo on it though, just the meat, salad and half a pitta bread.
So, have I completely blown it this week? I was doing so well up until Friday.

I have been out shopping today and bought some size 12 jeans. I hope they fit as my size 14's are getting loose.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/12/2007 21:10

Kid: Burger King L A Flame Grilled Chicken Salad per serving

Original Free Green 4 Syns

Basic/Non Branded Foods Bread, Pitta, white 30g mini (or half a normal 60g one)

Original 4 Syns Green 4 Syns

And as for the lamb on the kebab, ok it's not the leanest meat but you haven't blown it- have you heard of mix2max? rather than choosing a green day or an original day you can change both on the same day. "Treat yourself to a full English breakfast (Original choice), a huge jacket potato with beans for lunch (Green choice) and a roast dinner with plenty of meat and vegetables (Original choice). Have three or four Healthy Extras, your choice of Syns and, if you?ve got room, snack on Superfree Foods throughout the day including fruit, vegetables and more!"

So you really haven't blown it, keep up the good work and youll see results really quickly.

Lurcherlass, I can laugh about the toilet incident now, but felt like a bit of a pleb at the time. All the more reason to keep at it though so that incidents like that don't happen!

Done quite well today, had hifi bar and banana for breakfast (got up late) then free veg soup and cheese on wholemeal toast for lunch, and savoury rice, mixed veg and two fishfingers for tea, so only used 5 syns for the fishfingers. Hmm, 10 syns to play with and a rumbly tummy...what can I have?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/12/2007 21:44

haha TEN rich tea fingers (biscuits are my biggest vice, may as well!)

kid · 16/12/2007 10:31

I tried on my size 12 jeans, they do up easily! I am so happy and so glad I got them. I think I'll hang on to those size 14s for a little while though.

I'm starting to see this eating SW style as a normal way of living and not a diet. I haven't touched bread for over 2 weeks now, I don't even miss it. (Well the pitta bread on Friday but thats not the same as the seeded granary bread that I love!)

Thanks so much for your advice James, I really did think I had blown the whole week. So pleased to hear that the whole week has not been written off.

tiredemma · 16/12/2007 10:58

I stopped going a few weeks ago- I lost 17lbs and am now a size 8 for the first time in years.

chuffed to bits. Nothing like sliding a pair of jeans on instead of shoe-horning yourself into them.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/12/2007 11:51

At the other end of the scale (no pun intended!) I'm at the beinning of my SW journey, and my first sign that it was working was when my maternity trousers fell down around my ankles (was still wearing them, baby is 4 months old)

Now starting to see more changes, it's great: I've had to swap the ring I usually wear on my ring finger to my middle finger, and adjust the tie on my tracky bottoms so they stay up. Plus my ankles are becoming more ankle than cankle.

merryCHRISTIEmas · 16/12/2007 12:12

Wow, tiredmama - a size 8 : you must be thrilled!!
That's brilliant!
I can't imagine ever being a size 8 but I'd be happy to go down a size or two from where I am now .

lurcherlass · 16/12/2007 13:48

I wasn't even a size 8 when I was 8 years old I agree with you tiredemma, I love that moment, when you're zipping up your jeans and wondering if they'll go up without a struggle, and the zipper just slides up lovely and you can still breath!!!
I must say, my clothes do vary. Trouser-wise, I have 2 size 16's falling down, a couple of 16's just right and a size 16 pair from Etam, that won't do up!! I wore a skirt Friday night that's a size 14 from Marks. It makes sending off for anything a bit hit or miss...

Sparkler · 16/12/2007 16:11

I'm not doing very well . Had DH's christmas work party a week ago and I have slipped since then. It's so difficult with christmas coming.

OP posts:
kid · 16/12/2007 16:56

sparkler, if you can manage to even lose just a few pounds this side of Christmas, it means you can afford to put a little bit on over Christmas. That has always been my intention and then I can go back to SW properly after Christmas and really get stuck into losing this weight.

Don't write off the whole week after just a couple of bad days, get back to it and then you will soon be seeing a loss. Good luck

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/12/2007 17:21

Cheer up, sparkler, a couple of days of splurging isn't so bad when you look at the long term picture. Flexible syns, and all that.

Found some alpen light cereal bars (choc orange or summer fruits flavour) in asda today that are only 3 syns a bar which is about as much as ONE average biscuit, but they're really nice and satisfying with a coffee. I think they'll help a lot with my biscuit addiction!

What's everyone having for christmas dinner then? I'm making roast beef for the meateaters and quorn roast for me, aunt bessies yorkshire puddings, aunt bessies roasties, aunt bessies carrot and swede mash, parsnips, sprouts, peas and gravy (not faffing with making anything I don't have to, and not messing about with stuffing) So it's not too synful for me really.

Bought some extra special frozen mini chocolate cups for afterwards, they look teeny, and they're all spoken for so no chance of going mad! Don't know their syn value though, I expect they're 2 or 3 syns each. So Christmas day shouldn't be too much of a splurge, but then we're going to mil's on boxing day so might not be able to avoid all naughtiness, she tend to cook everything with a side order of deepfried chips.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/12/2007 18:38

Actually I just totted up my christmas dinner and pudding using the syns calculator on the website, and altogether it comes to 13 syns so no excuse not to stick to the diet!

For anyone who is interested, asda extra special frozen mini belgian chocolate cups, 6 raspberry, 6 lemon come to 1 syn each.

lurcherlass · 16/12/2007 20:44

Just been to a gathering this morning, where the sausage rolls and mince-pies were handed round. If you say you're dieting, they press you relentlessly to have one. If you fib and say, ooh I've had 2 already, they move on without arguement! Why do people feel the need to sabotage our good work?

Chloe55 · 17/12/2007 13:11

Tell me about it Lurcherlass! Had some friends round for sunday lunch yesterday, they practically tried to throw wine down my neck and were physically putting extra yorkshire puds and potatoes on my plate Why? I slyly removed the excess food and gave it to the dog - I could have quite easily ate the lot. Then out comes the Mingles (minty choc things) of which I allow myself 2 a night but no, no, no that is completely unacceptable so here Chloe have another 6! - I had to use every last ounce of my willpower last night, I hope it shows tonight at the weigh-in.
