Hi all! I got my bum in gear and set up the July thread for our ongoing challenge to lose 7lbs or 3kg per month!

All are welcome whether you are a regular, a newbie or a lurker. We are a friendly and welcoming bunch.

There's a good mix of diet and exercise regimes so plenty of hints and tips available.

My stats are:
SW (Dec 19) 25st 2lbs
CW 13st 6lbs
Loss for June 6lbs
Loss so far 11st 10lbs

Target for July is 12st 13lbs. I'm so excited by the prospect of being in the 12s!!

Previous thread is here if anyone wants to catch up!

My plateau is still here, like an unwanted guest that won't leave Angry. I've stayed exactly the same weight for almost a month now.

My motivation is slipping away but I am really trying to stay on the wagon.

How do people cope with plateaus? Any tips?

Harmonyrays · 06/07/2021 04:30

Hi everyone

Great loses cricket mum!! Inspiring

Checking in

SW 96.6kg
CW 88.5kg
Gw 60kg

Started in June so chuffed with that.

cricketmum84 · 06/07/2021 07:24

Hope everyone is still getting on ok. No loss to report for me yet :(

In good news my GP has agreed to trial me without diabetes meds for a few months as my last blood test was so low. I'm trying diet controlled only so will need to be much stricter with carbs and fruit. I'm hoping I will start losing again! Blood sugars are much easier to control the healthier weight I get to.

Welcome to the newbies :)

@JeansShirtJeansJacket have you tried mixing your diet up a bit? I plateau when I'm eating the same stuff every day.

Have a lovely holiday @MistySkiesAfterRain

Currently deciding what to do for breakfast? Might just be some Greek yoghurt and mixed nuts. I've run out of salad veg until Thursday so I need a low carb option for lunch too!

Have a very happy Tuesday!

Morning all!

Not had the best week, as little DS has been a poorly velcro baby, so it's been 'grab what you can, when you can' when it comes to food! DH has cooked too (Shock), however his repertoire tends to the beige...

So to the stats:

Currently 99.0 kg, so have lost 0.4 kg this week/in July.

Have lost 4.8 kg since returning to work at the start of June, and am 12 kg lighter than my heaviest.

Have achieved my first target, of getting into double figures. Next target is 92 kg (so 40% of the way there), as that would take me to just overweight and also my pre-pregnancy weight.

Plans for this week are Greek beans, Venetian pasta, and Spanish veg bake for dinners, light salad for lunch and eggs or yoghurt for breakfast.

Well done on all that weight lost Vebrithien! Star That's really impressive!
JeansShirtJeansJacket I have heard of two ways to overcome a plateau, one is to eat a carb haevy meal, then go back to dieting. The other is to eat at maintenance calories for a few days then get back on it. I hope you find something that works. Flowers
That's really good news about the diabetes medication cricketmum84 you must be pleased? Star

73kittycat73 · 06/07/2021 11:31

*heavy

Pickersgill · 06/07/2021 13:33

Useful tip 73kittycat73!

Like JeansShirtJeansJacket I've hit a plateau. I think I've lost and gained the same 1lb for nearly 2 weeks and it is doing my head in. I do fine with the diet when I can see results but lose all energy when this happen- particularly when I am within touching distance of a full stone loss. I kind of fell off the wagon at the weekend Grin. But I've started the week with a fresh determination and am aiming to reach my full 1stone loss by friday.

73kittycat73 · 06/07/2021 19:27

Good luck to you Pickersgill, I'm sure you can do it!

JeansShirtJeansJacket · 07/07/2021 06:02

Thanks for the tips everyone! The scales are finally moving again!

I cut out the alcohol for a few days so maybe that's done it.

My alcohol consumption is always within my calorie budget, and I only have one or two small drinks, but it seems that if I use those calories for food instead, the weight comes off.

BlueLobelia · 07/07/2021 06:14

Morning! That is interesting about alcohol @JeansShirtJeansJacket . I am aiming to cut out alcohol altoghtehr but have had a few fase starts this week.

I am feeling positive this first week though. I definitely feel less bloated. I am fidning the 16-8 method if Intermittant fasting really easy. I do find it hard to eat 3 meals in my 8 hour eating window though so have naturally (and without hunger) gone to 2 meals. Yesterday i had a fresh vegetable soup carton and cheese on toast for lunch (about 10.30 am) then an early dinner of marinated lamb steaks, peas and baked potato for dinner about 5 pm. I was WFH which made that easier. Not enough fruti and veg today though so i am going to be sure to pay attention to that.

I had a becks blue alcohol free beer though with dinner. I do find the no-cal drinks hard when it comes to avoiding alcohol so am tweaking it a bit to include alcohol-free if that just makes it a bit easier.

I am already noticeably fitter as well with my 10 mins walka day so I am happy with that. I also feel less bloated. All good!

I will weigh in friday and will be thrilled if I register any loss.

Good luck everyone.

BlueLobelia · 07/07/2021 06:16

Sorry for typos. I did have a sleeping cat on my lap interfering with me (my excuse and I am sticking with it!)

sultanasofping · 07/07/2021 09:29

I am really not feeling it this week - not sure why, I feel super tired and a bit down and just like it ain't gonna happen.
Any thoughts on how I get over myself and get back on it???

WheresMyTweezers · 07/07/2021 09:50

@Pickersgill that was me last week but seems to have come off this week.

@JeansShirtJeansJacket yes alcohol doesn't have a good effect on me either and I always was more the next day. I hardly drink these days but avoid wine/lager and stick to a couple of G&Ts if I have anything. I don't even have slimline tonic as I'm sure the sugar replacement makes me binge.

@BlueLobelia good luck - hope you get a good loss.

@sultanasofping same! Exhausted this week and fitting in my steps is killing me but I do feel better when I do them. Podcast helps! Erm, try & stay hydrated too?

3lb off for me so far in July. Would love another 5 to take me to my first stone.

sultanasofping · 07/07/2021 11:33

@WheresMyTweezers sorry you're the same (but also glad I'm not alone Smile )
must try to find my mojo

Pickersgill · 07/07/2021 14:50

I've cut right down on booze and it has made a difference, but I really struggle to find a decent replacement to guzzle drink at night. If only someone could make an alcohol free red wine that actually tastes nice! I've swapped a weekend wine for tonight though. Special occasion and all Grin

sultanasofping hope you find your mojo- I've found my cycle massively affects my motivation. Which is blooming annoying when I've got into a nice rhythm with diet and exercise and then my brain just goes "nope, not playing any more". People like cricketmum84 and her story are a huge inspiration to help perk me up again.

cricketmum84 · 07/07/2021 18:34

Blushing! Thank you @Pickersgill ❤️❤️

I have spent my afternoon nursing this little baby back to health after the bad cat came running in with it in her mouth! It was lovely to see her fly back to the bushes where the nests are❤️❤️❤️

NotPregnantJustChubs · 07/07/2021 19:58

Welp.

After months of joking to friends that I'm now so fat that I look easily as if I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy... the inevitable has happened.

Was sitting down in a cafe to order coffee and chocolate cake the other day, when the owner who I always have a friendly chat with, asked me surreptitiously, "you're not expecting a baby there, are you?"

  1. Why the fuck would you ask that, when there is even the remotest possibility that the answer could be no???!!!
  1. Guess this is my come to jesus moment. Better get started and do something about it, before people start asking about twins.

SW : 73 kg / 11st 5
GW : 65 kg / 10st 2

BlueLobelia · 09/07/2021 06:39

@NotPregnantJustChubs I get asked if I am pg all the time. Like a typical apple I carry my weight around my middle. I always think unless you are physically witnessing the baby emerging you never ask. Grin

I am THRILLED this morning. Week 1 down and ......

SW- 13 stone 8.4 pounds

Today's weight- 13 stone 5.4 pounds.

Exactly 3 pounds!!!!! I am beside myself. (Beside 3 pounds less of myself!).

This week I plan to continue with my Intermittant fasting 16-8 method. I am finding it ridiculously easy. I am usually up about 5.30 so breakfast at 10 am is a bit more difficult but then eating and stopping by 6 is good. I do need to add some more fruit and veg though. I am finding I do not want lunch after eating breakfast at 10 so will add a few pieces of fruit and yoghurt as 'lunch'.

I also plan to continue with the alcohol free and my 10 minutes walk daily.

But I am so pleased. :)

Hope everyone has a good week. :)

cricketmum84 · 09/07/2021 07:55

@NotPregnantJustChubs just for you 😂😂 love the username!

Excellent loss @BlueLobelia

I saw my neurologist yesterday. He's said my neuropathy will not recover and the best I can hope for is doing the physio and getting some functional movement back. I feel quite lost and struggling to process it to be honest.

But what I do need to tell you all is that he said he sees this sometimes with patients who have lost a large amount of weight. (His face was a picture when I told him how much)!

He said that when you are dieting it is essential that you take a good multivitamin specifically B vitamins. So please everyone go get a good B complex supplement!! I honestly can't believe that my diet has had this extreme effect on my health.

Lesson of the day is over.

WheresMyTweezers · 09/07/2021 08:56

Hi @cricketmum84 I wasn't on the previous thread so didn't know about your neurology issues but thanks for the tip about the vitamins. You have lost a tremendous amount of weight and I daresay if you hadn't you might have had other issues instead?

4lb off in July for me taking me to 10lb overall (since 14 June). I'd love to get my first stone off by the end of July and despite going away for a few days this month, I'm determined to make the best choices I can.

cricketmum84 · 09/07/2021 09:20

@WheresMyTweezers that's a fantastic loss so far :) well done!

Yes at one point I said "god I should have just stayed fat!!" But he said the diabetes would have got me in the end anyway 😂

Have to laugh I suppose, it's better than the alternative.

OP posts:
BlueLobelia · 09/07/2021 14:34

Thanks for the tip about vitamins @cricketmum84 !

My dad has just been diagnosed with diabetes, as has a fair bit of my family on both sides. Considering my genes and my apple shape I think i definitely have a pre=disposition. So I do need to be serious about weight loss. My aim is 10 stone 7. Stupid thing..... i was 10 stone 7 when I started dieting. I always say i dieted 3 stone ON.

have a great week everyone. Thanks for the thread. :)

Forestttheout · 09/07/2021 15:31

Hi All
Glad to see everyone is doing well, despite being very good i actually gained last month and went up to 74kg. Despite this I'm actually looking thinner. Had a good chat with my PT who recommended I ditch the scales while im doing so much weight training and instead focus on measurements. Couldn't find a tape measure so I've routed out some old size 12 jeans and taken some photos of my struggling to button them/spilling out the top. Hoping they'll fit perfectly in a month or twos time.

Tallpaulwho · 10/07/2021 12:56

I lost 0.8kgs last week which is nice.

However I had a bit of a binge last night involving pizza and wine Blush.
That combined with aunt Flo this week, I'm expecting a gain. I'm so cross with myself for last night. First time having any alcohol in nearly two months and I woke up feeling rough. It was a total waste of calories.

Pickersgill · 10/07/2021 13:44

Humph. Despite walking miles more than usual, cycling double what I do normally and eating a ton of salad I am still 1lb away from having lost a stone. I'd swear the bloody scales are broke but dh is still losing.

Hope other people are having a more successful week than me!
