6 stone to lose - my journey!

StanleyOscar · 28/05/2021 11:14

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

I can totally understand that...Wink

73kittycat73 · 01/07/2021 08:45

I need to confess: Had a bit of a binge last night. My blood sugar dropped to 2.9, should be 5 something so had to have a bit of chocolate. Only I didn't stop at a bit. Ice cream figured in there too. (Warning TMI alert!) Have been awake since 6 and in and out of the loo. The good thing though was that I stopped because I felt sick. I haven't before so just carry on 'till there almost nothing left.
Hope you are all having a good morning?!

picklemewalnuts · 01/07/2021 10:03

Oh dear, Kittycat! For next time, is there something less 'moreish' you can have? Perhaps orange juice, or a totally not tempting plain biscuit? Or even a flavour chocolate you aren't keen on?

I'm impressed you had chocolate in. If I have any, it gets eaten. Although chocolate chips last a bit longer.

73kittycat73 · 01/07/2021 10:22

I did a week or so ago take all the 'goodies' out my flat and into my mums. We have a shared hallway with a storage trunk that's got the chocolate in. I need access to some chocolate because of BS crashes. We also have a spare chest freezer in the hallway which is where I got the ice cream from. I haven't binged in over two weeks so was doing quite good. Skipping breakfast this morning as I really don't feel like it. Will make up some poultry (I haven't spelt that right have I? Grin ) calories.
How are you today?

WheresMyTweezers · 01/07/2021 10:23

@73kittycat73 one blow out won't make much difference, try and pull it back over the next couple of days and move on.

Measured myself this morning. Urgh! I mean, I kinda knew what it'd say because I know what dress size I wear, but still.

Also, the weighing daily is a complete shit. The idea was to see what causes fluctuations over a month and understand my body a bit better but it seems there is no rhyme or reason. I seem to have spent the last week or so going up and down by the same pound. I don't think my scales are precise as they don't measure in half pounds but still! I know I've upped my activity and overhauled what I eat so it is disheartening but I'm trusting the process and believing it will pay off at some point. Only a couple more weeks and I'll work out what day is best to do my weekly weigh in on.

StanleyOscar · 01/07/2021 10:26

@picklemewalnuts - Poor you with your mum Shock

@73kittycat73 - Don't worry about binging, it happens and today is another day.

StanleyOscar · 01/07/2021 10:34

@WheresMyTweezers - I know right! I am exactly the same this week. I have done lots of exercise, eaten good food etc, yet my weight has really not budged.

It was a little frustrating yesterday at SW hearing people say how they had a few treats, binged on pizza, wine etc and yet they still lost a few pounds. For me, the reward for good behaviour is nothing, not a single pound.

As you say, no rhyme or reason. The only reason I weigh in each day is to ensure my weight is either dropping, or at least maintaining but not climbing. If there is any increase in weight, I can hopefully address it asap rather than discover it a week or so later when it is too late and I have put on a few pounds.

At the moment I seem to be maintaining, which isn't ideal as I am still significantly overweight. And whilst the people at SW are brilliant, it is still a little embarrassing.

Could it be your digestion running slow, Stanley?

If not, try shaking things up a bit. Stay on plan but add in a fast day or do 16:8, or do a vegetarian week, or a big lunch/light dinner week.

I swear our bodies need a shake up sometimes. Maybe even have a day off. Not to gorge and pig out, but to relax and reset.

I think my being good around the edges approach this week has worked. I've weighed at home and I'm still on track. Just my week away to negotiate, now.

shukla96033 · 01/07/2021 11:09

I've started my weight loss journey with a internet diet, that eventually doesn't showed any results. But yet I was so concerned and had an mental trauma where I felt losing weight is not my cup of tea. But, later I've consulted an doctor from a hospital called Prathima Hospital, and met with the doctor. They've provided me a tailored diet plan and routine to make my fat melt. And that was not an easy process, it took me time and finally I've lost around 5lbs in 6 months. I owe to that doctor who had given me such an routine plan to lose my extra lbs of fat.
This is my weight loss journey. Is anyone here with the same kind of journey

StanleyOscar · 01/07/2021 13:39

@picklemewalnuts - Good point, it could be the digestion running slowly, I haven't really eaten much this week as I haven't been hungry. Another thing of course is that as I have lost 1.5 stone in just over 4 weeks, my body doesn't have so much weight to carry, and thus doesn't burn so much energy. I know working out helps, but it doesn't impact much compared to just not eating too many calories, i.e. I can take in 300 calories in under 1 minute via a cream cake, but it would take me over an hour to burn it off.

I am quite interested in doing the 16:8, I think that could work well, and as you say, might be good for me to shake it up a little.

@shukla96033 - Welcome to the club! Well done for going to the doctor and sticking with their plan, 5lb is a good amount to lose. Are you still dieting, and if so, how much have you left to lose?

Hi everyone. Thank you for the kind words. My day was a lot better than my night! Grin I helped my mum clean out her shed and was really surprised at how much fitter I am. The exercising is really paying off! I didn't huff or puff once. I very chuffed. Grin
I hope you see a change soon WheresMyTweezers and StanleyOscar. I imagine it's very demotivating not to.

picklemewalnuts · 01/07/2021 19:05

Well done Kitty. Yes, surviving ordeals that used to cause problems is very motivating!

I'm so, so relieved my feet don't hurt so much and I can do 10000steps without collapse! It will make our trip away much more pleasant. Though ask me again at the end of it- I may still be exhausted! Last time we went away I burned out half way through, and ended up sat in the car/on a random bench while DH trekked round tourist stuff.

73kittycat73 · 01/07/2021 19:41

Thanks. Smile Though I'm only up to 3k+ a day steps, unlike your very impressive 10k. Where are you holidaying, if you don't mind me asking?

picklemewalnuts · 01/07/2021 21:51

Flamborough. We're going to The Deep on the way tomorrow. We like the beach, walking, and looking at birds and castles. And my Aunty gave me some money so we're going to try some seafood- I've never wanted to spend crab and lobster prices when I didn't know if we'd like it 🤣

StanleyOscar · 02/07/2021 09:28

@73kittycat73 - Well done, you are doing great! Flowers

@picklemewalnuts - I took your advice and shaked things up a bit. Moved onto the 16:8 and this morning my weight has moved, dropped 2lb on the scales (it's actually 1lb 2oz but has dropped from 237lbs to 235.8lbs). So, finally it has shifted, just need to try and keep it moving.

Having monitored my weight daily over the past 5 weeks, I can see an interesting pattern. It drops a good amount over a week or so, but then it stalls for a week, then starts moving again. All the time though the inches around my waist are always decreasing. Exercise seems to appear to mess things up somewhat, hence I guess Slimming World don't push the fitness side at all. Ultimately any exercise is a benefit regardless of any weight loss, for me at least.

Last time I was at this weight was pre-pandemic, and so I have finally shifted all my lockdown flab!

Starting weight on 26th May - 256lbs
Current weight - 235lbs
Target weight - 175lbs
60lbs to go!

How's everyone else today?

OP posts:
WheresMyTweezers · 02/07/2021 10:15

Well I'm 2lb down today but it'll probably go back on tomorrow on the patterns so far! I'm keeping going though as I'm sure it's gonna come off and stay off at some point and at least now I'm taking my measurements.

Yesterday for example:

Breakfast - 2x satsuma and handful of cherries (about 300 cals)

Lunch - boiled egg sandwich ( 2x slice of wholemeal, 1 egg, 1 tomato - about 300 cals)
Packet of mini cheddars (130 cals)

Dinner
Cully and Sully Fish chowder ( 320 calories)
White chocolate magnum (250 calories)
More cherries (150 calories)

Total 1350 calories.
Usually would have more substantial evening meal but not the Magnum or cheddars so fairly typical consumption.

Did 7500 steps which is low - usually do 8-9000 minimum.

StanleyOscar · 02/07/2021 10:33

@WheresMyTweezers - Well done on the 2lbs loss, let's hope you are wrong and it doesn't go back on tomorrow! Smile

Do you find the bread has any impact on your weight? I love bread, but it doesn't matter if it is white or wholemeal, my weight goes up if I eat it.

OP posts:
WheresMyTweezers · 02/07/2021 10:36

I find white bread send me spiralling - I can't seem to stop at 1-2 slices, and I think it triggers cravings for EVERYTHING. So probably slice for slice, not much different on weight, but big difference in the way I act!

73kittycat73 · 02/07/2021 11:48

Sounds really lovely picklemewalnuts. I've not heard of Flamborough or The Deep. Looking at birds and castles sounds really interesting. I hope you like the sea food!
Congratulations on the 2lb WheresMyTweezers! That's really good. Star
Thank you, and well done too on your 2lb StanleyOscar! If you notice a pattern you can prepare for it, so you know when you'll lose and when not, etc. Good that you are still losing inches though!
I don't miss bread so much (Apart from Tiger Rolls. drools ) Are you both low carbing? I am medium carb. I am a type 2 diabetic so am supposed to avoid them. However, I was getting so bored and fed up with what I've been eating, I ordered some mash, and jacket potatoes with my shopping yesterday. Had double carbs for tea, had a jacket potato and veggie ravioli! Shock I don't care as I enjoyed it, it left me full, and it was something different!

StanleyOscar · 02/07/2021 14:07

@73kittycat73 - Tiger rolls! I love tiger rolls, but we can't have them!

BOO-HOO! Sad

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 02/07/2021 17:08

SlimmingWorld you avoid bread but potatoes are fine. I've eaten barely anything so far today. Apple, Cube of cheese, small bag frazzles and a skinny crunch. I'm hungry now though. We bought a meal deal at M&S on the way here.

73kittycat73 · 02/07/2021 18:30

Are you on holiday now picklemewalnuts? Enjoy your meal deal. I tried M & S roast potatoes at Christmas, they were divine! Almost as good as my mums. Grin And yes StanleyOscar no tiger rolls for us at the moment. Sad

picklemewalnuts · 03/07/2021 06:59

I am! And joy of joys, we have wifi. Didn't think we did, used half my data in 1 day and went into a decline thinking no Mumsnet, no Google, no wotsapp etc!

I don't think I've 'fessed up on here- I take orlistat as well. If anyone is significantly overweight, the GP will prescribe it. I started to get me over a plateau, and have taken it ever since. I've not had any of the famous symptoms, I think because the diet is low fat anyway.

My gut has slowed down again, despite an apricot and some skin on kiwis! Caffeinated coffee for me this morning!

Poor DH decamped into the spare room at some point last night. No idea why, though I can hear a regular persistent and annoying beep which could be the culprit.

picklemewalnuts · 03/07/2021 06:59

And stop talking about tiger bread- it's cruel, I tell ya!

Veuvelily · 03/07/2021 10:46

Thursday morning the scales said 16st 5
This morning 16st 11
Pimms and champagne at Wimbledon, which was the best day ever and then had birthday dinner out last night. I had 4 prawns and a tiny plate of ravioli. So no overeating but a lot of alcohol. Very active 18k day though.
From experience it will settle back down in a couple of days, but it’s hard to watch!!
