6 stone to lose - my journey!

StanleyOscar · 28/05/2021 11:14

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

@StanleyOscar
Amazing difference, you must feel so proud.

Can I ask, I think you said above that you've been sticking to a certain number of calories each day... how did you distract yourself from the hunger at the start?

And also, have you been exercising as well?

I lost a pound this week, so I've set my target, it's all done. So here's to tomorrow and every day thereafter, maintaining!

Fantastic! That's going to be a whole different challenge but one you're definitely able for. Looking forward to more inspiration from you!

StarStarStar 4.5 STONE LOSS! StarStarStar

1st 4lbs to go to get to my target weight of 12st 7lbs, but I probably won't quit there, I plan to keep going. Fingers crossed I will make it by xmas, but none the less I am very pleased with the progress I have made so far. [santa]

@TheFairPrincess @BirdSanctuary @Sidehustle99 - Welcome!

@picklemewalnuts - Congratulations! Well done! Please do keep us updated on how you get on with maintaining. You must be very pleased with yourself. Star

@whattowear21 - Yes I have been 'trying' to stick to 800 calories a day, but I keep falling short of that, more like 400-500kcals which is far too low, and is becoming an issue. Distraction was difficult in the early days of my diet, but now it is easy. My main rule is no bad foods in the house, ever. So no crisps, cakes, biscuits, chips, chocolate, ice-cream, peanuts etc, that way, I can't be tempted in anyway at all. Leave the party foods for parties. Also, I drink plenty of water which helps to stave off the hunger, and I also reduce all portions, smaller plates etc. Last meal of the day is 6pm, no snacking in the evening, off to bed by 9pm, get plenty of sleep.

My main distraction is counting the pounds. I actually weigh myself every evening, as well as each morning. Typically I lose 1.2lbs overnight and so I can predict what my weight will be the next day. If I don't lose weight, no problem, measure my waist etc, so don't forget the inches.

For exercise I row a boat twice a week, and also do a mixture of running on my treadmill and a little spin biking. Other than that, try to do as much walking as possible.

Hope that helps Smile

Thanks Halo

I love this thread, it's very motivating.

I'm now on day 3 and feeling really good. I've finally tried a meal replacement style diet combined with intermittent fasting and it is very easy to stick to. I lose weight easily too but I have an incredibly hard time sticking to diets mainly as I have soo many decisions so I inevitably end up giving in to cravings when preparing meals.

This is working so much better for me so far, the protein kills hunger and then I have a nice dinner in the early evening!

I must do this this time. I just turned 28, I have needed to lose baby weight for years and I had 2 stone to lose before I ever had kids, so I really need to do this for my health now and otherwise I will just continue to balloon. It's got to the point where I am self conscious at the thought of going out, seeing friends because I've gained so much :(

picklemewalnuts · 31/10/2021 16:14

Well done @TheFairPrincess ! The first step is the hardest! Remember all you need to do is be a bit better than you were before. It's ok to have days that aren't quite on plan, just have more days on plan than off and you'll move in the right direction!

I'll do some before and after pics...

picklemewalnuts · 31/10/2021 16:22

Here we go... not great pics, selfies are not my superpower!

StanleyOscar · 31/10/2021 16:37

@picklemewalnuts - Oh Wow! You look great! Must be so nice to be able to wear clothes which fit, and look right. To be nice and slim like you makes it all worth it. Grin

I actually look better in person! It is nice, though. Been a long time. I look like the me I remember!

Dandy008 · 02/11/2021 22:55

This is amazing

picklemewalnuts · 03/11/2021 11:08

So I put a pound on today, but I'm not surprised. If you remember I gamed the system a bit last week to get as low a target as possible. I also had a few treats this week and just didn't really count carefully. That's ok though, I'll be back on track this week and can lose 4lb from now and still be in my target zone.
I've got the book which tells you how to adjust to stay on track, and takes you through some thinking and planning for maintenance. I'll not really implement it until I've lost the 4 though. It will help me through Christmas, I think!

StanleyOscar · 09/11/2021 12:23

Quick update - Not a lot has changed since the 28th October, my weight was 13st 11lbs and there it stayed for 10 days no matter what exercise or diet I did. Nothing would budge the weight, total plateau for almost two weeks. Sad

On the flipside, I have lost an inch or two around the waist in that time. My new coat which I bought in Germany 3 weeks ago is already too big and I am comfortably in size Medium T-Shirts, joggers and hoodies now! Grin

The only I have been doing differently the past few weeks was that I stopped eating salads in the evening, I was back to just having a soup. Over the weekend I re-introduced chicken salad in the evenings and have already now lost 2lbs.

Only 1st 2lbs to go until I get to my goal, but I will probably carry on dieting afterwards because another 1 stone loss would be good.

Starting Weight: 18st 4lbs
Target Weight: 12st 7lbs
Current Weight: 13st 9lbs
Total loss so far: 65lbs

I had a nice little surprise on the scales this morning, 2lb loss! Grin

It seems that the switch back to salads in the evenings is helping a lot. Just one more stone to go until I reach my goal, aiming to achieve that by xmas [santa]

Starting Weight: 18st 4lbs
Target Weight: 12st 7lbs
Current Weight: 13st 7lbs

@picklemewalnuts @WheresMyTweezers @TheFairPrincess @whattowear21 - How we all doing?

OP posts:
WheresMyTweezers · 11/11/2021 09:28

Hi, I'm still here but work/life has been crazy!

Loving the pictures - coincidentally I found a picture of me in a dress on NYE and a picture of me in same dress last week and was going to post but I don't think it's a dramatic enough image!

I have been hovering around the same weight, and I'm ok with that as I was off plan for a few days (mainly ok though) and my menstrual cycle is all over the place so it makes it hard for me to predict when I'll lose/STS/gain and I was always really good at doing that.

I'm still hanging in though, weighing myself almost every day and I KNOW at some point I'll see a few pounds drop off in one go. It's definitely more of a long haul for me now though and that's ok as I think I really have adjusted my habits so the weight will come off - eventually.

Anyway a NSV - Im wearing a rather fantastic jumpsuit today and feeling very glam!

Well done again in keeping going @StanleyOscar and @picklemewalnuts I hope your maintenance is still going well. Have to run as I'm due in a meeting.

picklemewalnuts · 11/11/2021 09:36

Ooh, jumpsuits are great! I've not worn one for years, but will look out for one.

I'm here, at target but with room to lose a few before Christmas so I stay in the zone even if I eat a little more.

Blood test today so I'll see how the thyroid levels are doing. It will be a challenge if they drop my meds, I think!

Well done Stanley, and yes Tweezers, it's a life style change so it's ok if it's a bit slower but sustainable! It will happen naturally.

StanleyOscar · 17/11/2021 09:32

Morning team!

Another 1lb off yesterday putting me at 13st 6lbs.

Well, I am getting close to a 5 stone loss and also now have just 13lbs to lose until I hit my target weight of 12st 7lbs, all to be done by xmas. So, I need an average loss of 2.3lbs a week until then, which is just about achievable.

My current diet is still strict and consists of the following:

Breakfast - 0% Yoghurt with granola and a cup of coffee.
Lunch - Cuppa soup and 1 boiled egg.
Dinner - Chicken salad with lettuce, cucumber, pickled onion, low fat salad cream followed by a low calorie jelly.

I drink lots of water and tea through the daytime, and may have an extra egg or apple. I don't feel hungry at all, food is no longer a distraction, I genuinely do not miss eating crisps, peanuts, cakes, chips, burgers etc. I've lasted 5 months so far without cracking or reverting back to my old eating habits.

Weight loss pattern is very strange as usual. I went 10 days with no weight loss at all, but then in the last 10 days I have lost 5lbs.

@picklemewalnuts - How's the maintenance diet going?
@TheFairPrincess @WheresMyTweezers - How are you?

Starting Weight: 18st 4lbs
Target Weight: 12st 7lbs
Current Weight: 13st 6lbs

I'm ok, weighed in 2lb up, but I'm wearing jeans and boots. It was a deliberate choice to bite the bullet!

You are doing really well, Stanley. If I remember correctly you are in a comfortable financial position. You should see a dietician- not a faddy one, a boring old fashioned one- just because with a restricted diet it's worth checking your nutrition.

Speaking as an older woman, things like calcium and protein are really important. When we are eating less, we have to be more careful!

StanleyOscar · 17/11/2021 09:54

@picklemewalnuts - Glad to hear you are doing well, and 2lbs up isn't bad at all, especially considering all the weight you have lost. I am sure when I get back to a normal maintenance diet, I will probably add a pound or two hence I intend to carry on my diet until I hit 11st 11lbs if possible. That way, I have some flexibility, I can afford a few extra lbs.

Thanks also for the advice regarding nutrition, I will do so! Grin

WheresMyTweezers · 17/11/2021 10:14

waves at everyone
Still here, still weighing daily. Quite glad nothing's gone on as I'm well and truly in the Christmas spirit! Expecting a loss next week though (if I follow my STS, STS, BIG LOSS, SMALL GAIN, STS, STS...pattern). Still happily racking up NSVs though - was quite happy to realise I can wrap a towel around myself and my stomach is actually covered Blush

Also I have some lovely outfits lined up for Christmas. I think cracking another few pound off for Christmas would be ideal, and then I'm hoping I can carry on and lose a bit more next year. I've got my dream holiday booked and rather vainly I want to swan round looking swish and get loads of photos. Definitely a long haul for me but, well, the time passes anyway!

@picklemewalnuts 2lb can be a hormonal fluctuation, a big roast dinner or a poo! You know your body now and know if a tweak will help or it'll just naturally even out.

@StanleyOscar oh well done! Glad you're still feeling motivated. Agree with Pickle that you need to keep an eye on nutrition but that's possibly something more pertinent to women - I have heard some horror stories!

picklemewalnuts · 17/11/2021 10:44

That sounds fabulous, Tweezers! That towel moment is a lovely thing! You are quite right, those NSVs are brilliant, and the go on and on. You will be regularly surprised by a new NSV!

For me, having fewer clothes and not needing to pay so much attention to what I wear with what is a boon. Also, some old bog standard cheap tights I found at the back of a drawer were easy to wear, stayed up, and did their thing without stress.

StanleyOscar · 19/11/2021 08:43

Weighed in this morning at 13st 5lbs, same as yesterday, just one more pound to lose and I hit the 5 stone loss mark!

If I lose the pound tomorrow, that will be 5 stone loss in 5 months to the day (started diet on 20th May 2021).

Well done Stanley!! Fabulous progress. I weighed in and I'm back at target. So I've lost my winter clothes weight! Very happy with that. I'd like to lose 3lb before Christmas. So I can put some on again! I'm planning on having a drink or two, and some chocolate!

I had a dietitian report and all is good! I need to eat some nuts and some sushi. Tragic! Apart from that it's all covered- very gratifying!
