6 stone to lose - my journey!

Hi everyone, long-time lurker here but decided to pop my head up and talk about my weight loss journey which I have just begun.

49 years old, yo-yo dieter for approx 20 years. Never have much problem loosing weight, just can't keep it off. So, I joined Slimming World on Wednesday and have around 6 stone to lose. So far I have lost 3lb, which is to be expected in week 1. Very much enjoyed the group meeting, and the meals/recipes are good too.

So far, so good. Anyone else on their journey too?

@StanleyOscar
I've been watching your thread for a while now and just wanted to say congratulations to you! You've done so well and been so determined and it's all paying off!

To be honest it's inspired me to have a go myself. I recently had a baby and am carrying an extra stone and a half but for some reason it just feels like such a daunting task to lose it.

But when I read about how well you've done I think I can!

StanleyOscar · 21/10/2021 09:28

@whattowear21 - Thank you for your lovely post, it pleases me to hear my journey may help others to start their journey. You can definitely do it!

It always seems daunting to begin with, but just don't give up, no matter what. The main thing I have learned from my journey so far, is that so long as I stick to the plan, the weight will come off. It doesn't happen everyday, but it does happen. Doesn't matter how fast or slow, doesn't matter if I have an off day, I will just stick to it.

The rewards are amazing, and I'm not even done yet. People I meet day to day are so complimentary, some don't even recognise me. My health, fitness and general wellbeing is wonderful and well worth the dedication. Smile

Morning team!

Weighed in this morning and another 1lb off, so I have lost 3lb since arriving back from Germany at the beginning of the week, and a total of 60lbs in 5 months. Scales this morning said 14st exactly, just one more pound and I am in the 13 stone bracket. Grin

Tried on my new jog bottoms today Size L, and they are too big and so I am going to have to try on the Medium size. At the beginning of the diet I was wearing size XXXL Shock

Holding my own! I had an unplanned late night bowl of cereal yesterday. It's a learning point- I will eat something else in the evening, so best to plan and allocate it.

I've planned a few days meals and allocated my HXAs to cheese and fruit or pickles every evening. My HXbs are available as I'm out of cereal bars and not planning on buying more, so I may even have a handful of nuts with it!

This is my last push week. There are numbers I'd like to reach, but I'm not going to beat myself up about it.

Here's my Stanley table:

Starting weight 122.2kg 19 st 3lbs BMI 43
Current weight 86kg 13st 8lbs. BMI 31.6

Total loss 36.2kg. 5st 9lb

Another 4/5lbs loss would be amazing, but it can wait!

picklemewalnuts · 22/10/2021 10:55

Total loss 79lbs, in a year and a couple of weeks.

whattowear21 · 22/10/2021 12:17

Thinking of starting on Monday. I'm unwell at the moment so don't think it's a great point to begin.

I feel positive though and would love to use this thread to help keep me motivated!

picklemewalnuts · 22/10/2021 14:15

Go for it, @whattowear21 ! All you need to do is have less than you usually would. You don't need to follow a plan perfectly, or never make a mistake or have a treat. Just do better than you used to do.

StanleyOscar · 24/10/2021 08:40

StarStarStar 13st 13lbs! StarStarStar

Done it! I am now in the 13 stone bracket!

Weighed in this morning, another pound off and finally 13st 13lbs, I am so chuffed!

61lbs off so far, 20lbs left to hit my goal before xmas [santa]

@picklemewalnuts - That's an astonishing amount to lose, you have done amazingly well! Star

@whattowear21 - Yes, go for it and I couldn't put it better myself than what @picklemewalnuts said, "All you need to do is have less than you usually would. You don't need to follow a plan perfectly, or never make a mistake or have a treat. Just do better than you used to do." Star

I was in the same boat as you 22 weeks ago, and now my world is totally different!

Congratulations!! What an amazing achievement.

Yes I'm going to start on Monday, I'll weigh myself tonight and keep you guys updated of my progress.

Thanks both of you for being so welcoming!

picklemewalnuts · 24/10/2021 15:40

Good for you, @whattowear21 !

@StanleyOscar that's fabulous! What a triumph!

Someone was asking me about it today, and I felt a bit uncomfortable to be honest. I'm not a better person for having lost weight, I'm not a loser for having been obese for a long time, I didn't carry extra weight because I was lazy but now I'm virtuous so go me etc. etc.

It's great, and it's an achievement and all, but really it's more about circumstances. Circumstances allowed me to stick with it and make it the major focus of my day to day life. For the previous 30 years circumstances did not permit that.

On the up side, I'm anticipating ensuring circumstances will continue to work in my favour from here on in. There are fewer things to negotiate my way around!

StanleyOscar · 26/10/2021 09:11

Another 1lb off this morning bringing me down to 13st 12lbs. One more pound and I will have lost 4.5st. I am just moving into Medium sized clothes too! Grin

XXXL XXL XL L M

@picklemewalnuts - That's interesting that you feel the way you do about your weight loss when someone mentions it, I can quite see why you do. For me, circumstances have almost always allowed me to go on a diet, but my bad eating habits and lack of motivation has meant I've just not bothered.

These days I don't really get a choice about people mentioning about the amount of weight I have lost, but what is nice is so many friends and family have asked if I am okay first, they just want to know that I'm not dying or something, I have just lost a lot of weight because I don't eat junk anymore.

Probably the most asked question is "What's your secret?" Well, there isn't any secret, I'm not even really dieting, I'm just eating healthy foods and taking regular exercise. Smile

Hello!! So encouraged by this. In same boat, starting tomorrow, 6 stone to lose. Will be trailing through the above posts for tips!!

picklemewalnuts · 26/10/2021 12:42

Go for it @BirdSanctuary !
We'll be here to cheer you on!
Taget day tomorrow. I'm going to do what I never have and game the system.

I'm going to wear very light clothes and not drink first.

I want my official number to be as low as possible, because I want my target range to be on the low side. I'm allowed to get 3lb below or above target before having to pay again! So my real target to maintain at will be at the lower end of the allowed range, and I want that to be as low as I can manage!

Hope that makes sense!

BirdSanctuary · 26/10/2021 12:54

@picklemewalnuts ... So excited for you. Remember that feeling well from successful attempt in past. Used to just love the weeks I was looking forward to group because I knew I had been on plan. Wishing you lots of luck and thanks for support!!

whattowear21 · 26/10/2021 21:01

Right, I've weighed in.

63kg / 10 stone and I'd like to be 54kg/8.5 stone (I'm very short!).

Today I've started by just trying not to be as bad as yesterday! It's definitely not been perfect but I'm feeling positive!

picklemewalnuts · 27/10/2021 06:22

Excellent start, whattowear!

WheresMyTweezers · 27/10/2021 07:11

Hi everyone,

Back from my break. Wasn't going to weigh in today as I have been a glutton and my period is in town but I got on the scales and yes there's a small gain but nowhere near what I was expecting (and boy was it worth it!!!)

@BirdSanctuary if you're a habitual dieter you need to read Why We Eat (Too Much) - I'm a bit evangelical about it, but so many things dropped into place when reading it.

@picklemewalnuts I get exactly what you mean! Weight isn't a moral thing. For me, I think it took me so long because I was happy and have a great life and weight/size was just a small component of that. If I hadn't been incapacitated last year (not weight related, just freak accident) and been able to wonder if I'd have coped better if I'd been lighter, I'm not sure I would have made that first step of getting on the scales. I'm a bit lighter now but I'm not "happier" (I'm not unhappy, but because I was happy to start with there maybe wasn't as high a level of happiness for me to get to?). Again the book WWE(TM) really helped with how I felt about food. I wasn't a failure because I'd not managed to "be disciplined" in the past, I just needed to understand how my body/environment sometimes works against me so I could properly take control and I think because I've been able to banish the "shame" element, I've been able to make long term changes and while my loss stops and starts (I suspect I'm peri- menopausal which doesn't help) like @StanleyOscar said, the overall trend is what counts and if I carry on, I'll get there. The time will pass anyway.

@whattowear21 getting on the scales is the hardest but IMHO - good luck!

In terms of effects, I did so much walking while away and while I never count exercise calories I think the combined effect of walking a fair distance every day for months now and dropping a relatively small amount of weight (c2 stone depending on the day!) means I'm the fittest I've been in years. I rarely get out of breath when walking now, my heart rate is good (both resting and when walking fast) and I don't get red sweaty face anymore. I've also been able to get some of my favourite clothes back out. I genuinely think Non Scale Victories motivate me the most.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far.

Words · 27/10/2021 10:08

Hello Everyone, just visiting. Anyone is of course hugely welcome to join thé Why we eat too much threads, based on the ideas in the book of the same name referenced previously.

I try not to be evangelical about it as there are few things more off putting. But it's really working for a number of us.Grin

Congratulations on all your weight losses by the way. Super inspiring!

logsonlogsoff · 27/10/2021 10:34

@StanleyOscar Wow, well done OP. You really are an inspiration! You;ve inspired me anyway.

StanleyOscar · 27/10/2021 10:49

What a difference 5 months can make!

Thought I would drop this 'Before & After' piccy of me. On the left is me when we were in Vienna before my diet and I was around 18st 4lbs size XXXL. The piccy on the right is of me a few days ago at 13st 13lbs Size L.

It's definitely worth it. Still a way to go, but the results show and people now think I look taller. Grin

I hope it inspires anyone thinking of going on a diet to just get on and do it! I started on 20th May 2021 and the time really has flown past.

6 stone to lose - my journey!

Oh shit, I started my journey today, this was so incredibly helpful and inspiring to see all of your updates, you should be so proud!

BirdSanctuary · 27/10/2021 12:04

@WheresMyTweezers thank you! I will nosey.
Had first class and feeling the motivational juices starting to flow. Sitting with books to refresh knowledge. I've forgotten a LOT about the plans!

BirdSanctuary · 27/10/2021 12:04

@TheFairPrincess
Good luck! Great to see another newbie.

BirdSanctuary · 27/10/2021 12:05
