Losing up to a stone of baby weight

tigerbreadandtea · 13/05/2021 16:15

I'm a size 12 post baby but petite and feel frumpy. The weight gain has been my stomach and hips which I guess is to be expected. I am six months post partum but have never been on a diet in my life before and don't know how or where to start. Calorie count, more exercise? I want to get back down to a size 10

This thread is such an inspiration! You're all doing so well.

I had twins last year and need to lose 1.5 stone.
I'm 5'4" and normally 9 stone (was 9.5st just before I got pregnant due to steroids and IVF meds).
During pregnancy I hardly put on any weight (was too busy in work and just completely lost my appetite). By the time I gave birth I was 11 stone, which was mostly babies, so quickly went back to normal (just with a bit of a tum).

BUT then in the last year I've gone back up to 11 stone! :( It's a combination of lots of reasons - went straight into menopause after the birth, Covid weight, no time to exercise with 2 babies, developed a love for Lindt chocolate balls!

Now I want to go back to 9 or 9.5 stone.
My plan is :

  • walk for 30 mins a day before work (walk 1.5 hours a weekends)
  • cut down from 4 Lindt balls a day to one
  • cut out honey on my toast
  • no crisps, biscuits etc
  • try to eat less bread

I have chicken salad for dinner most days. Any ideas for lunches that don't involve bread or salad? I'm not keen on soup.

Small steps are definitely the way forward. I have lost one stone and three pounds since I joined this thread 5 weeks ago. Just by making small changes! To answer your question, instead of having bread for lunch I have a wrap. I buy child sized ones and I think they’re 90 calories each.

@Jacky86 that is incredible. I'm half a stone down. Are you drinking any alcohol?

No. I’m still breastfeeding but weaning soon so will go back to my few glasses of wine/ gin every weekend.

Thanks Jacky. Wow, that's credible weight loss - well done!
Will try the wraps instead of bread.

I forgot to mention, I also have a small glass of wine every night. It's my treat at the end of the day, when work is done and babies are asleep. I should cut this down to just at the weekend.

I've plateaued this week too. I found I was hungrier after being to the gym. Still being good with clean eating and no alcohol, but I also need to watch my portions too, especially with the gym now.

Before I made changes I was having a a bar of chocolate and a packet of crisps every night. I swapped it for a small bag of popcorn. I have some chocolate at the weekend but because I can see results I don’t want to ruin my progress and this stops me from binging.

I need to join in, early days for me as baby is only 3 weeks old but I am eating more than when I was pregnant now. After DC1 I had lost weight in pregnancy (unintentional), this time I have piled it on. I want to lose around 2 stone slowly. I'll start by cutting down on the sweets, bread and sugar in drinks, increasing protein and water. I'll get weighed tomorrow to see the start point!

tigerbreadandtea · 21/06/2021 05:17

Ok my period has just arrived so I think that also explains the plateau. Will not weigh myself again until it's gone!

How is everyone doing?

tigerbreadandtea · 28/06/2021 11:32

I've lost 8lbs now. The last couple of weeks I've had some boozy nights out and have been socialising more so trying to pick healthy option from the menu and not having cake with coffee. I ordered the pinch of nom light recipe book for skme new ideas.

I’m down 1 stone 5lbs. I’m delighted. Hoping to join the gym next week. It wasn’t hard to lose once I put my mind to it but it will be challenging to maintain as I have a few nights away and nights out planned.

tigerbreadandtea · 28/06/2021 14:41

Well done Jacky. I think I could have lost a bit more by now if I hadn't had a social life but it's been really hectic the last couple of weeks! Just shows how calorie counting does work!

Mc3209 · 28/06/2021 18:40

Excellent progress @Jacky86 and @tigerbreadandtea! I've lost 9lbs so far. I also had cheat days with burgers for dinner 😬

tigerbreadandtea · 12/07/2021 18:07

Hi all. I've stopped losing after 8lbs which makes me think what I'm eating now is making me maintain not lose. I am definitely too sedentary so I am thinking about doing the body coach 90 day thing, anyone heard of it?

I’m doing okay, I’ve reached my target weight so I’m trying to maintain that now. I find that more challenging than loosing the weight! Trying to find the right balance. How are you?
MrsWolfyWoo · 21/07/2022 00:01

@tigerbreadandtea
hi ,
how did you get on. I am 9months PP
and I’m now a size 12 trying to get back to size 10! I’m fed up of feeling crap!
