Losing up to a stone of baby weight

I'm a size 12 post baby but petite and feel frumpy. The weight gain has been my stomach and hips which I guess is to be expected. I am six months post partum but have never been on a diet in my life before and don't know how or where to start. Calorie count, more exercise? I want to get back down to a size 10

I've lost two more pounds so very pleased. It is definitely much easier to eat less in the sun! Do you mind linking to the sun shade?

Jacky86 · 01/06/2021 13:17

Yes and I find for long walks more appealing in the sun ☀️ 😁

Vooga · 01/06/2021 13:25

I still had all my 'baby weight' when DD turned two last September! I started in November and have managed to get down to a normal healthy weight between then and now.

I did intermittent fasting and calorie counting. I lost the bulk of it between November and March, so when the gyms were closed. What you eat is far far more important than the exercise. I did everything very slowly, still plenty of treats and days off which helped me keep on track for a.longterm goal rather than short term loss.

tigerbreadandtea · 01/06/2021 13:41

@Vooga I agree it's way more about what you eat. I've not even missed the cakes and biscuits I was eating throughout the day before, feeling good in my clothes is more important to me!

@tigerbreadandtea I got this one: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GO8ECJG/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glt_fabc_607ZH6HYZKCXPBDNCWDV?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
This is how it looks in real life (excuse the laundry and the jungle of a garden). That's my own picnic blanket there, mesh at the back can be closed. It comes with tent hook thingies. I just weighed it down with a book.

Thank you! How's everyone doing in the heat? It's totally killed my appetite.

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 03/06/2021 22:16

I really like the heat, I just need to remember to drink enough water. I was going to write that I was doing quite well and eating sensibly, but then I go and demolish half a pack of rich tea biscuits this evening. So not impressed with myself.

Jacky86 · 05/06/2021 15:29

I’m down another 3lbs.. so that’s 10lbs in 3 weeks. Hopefully I’ll be at my target weight in two weeks 😀

tigerbreadandtea · 05/06/2021 23:10

Wow @Jacky86 that's amazing. What are you eating? Do your clothes feel better?

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 06/06/2021 08:43

@Jacky86 well done! That's stellar progress! What are you going to do once you reach your goal weight?
Weigh in for me: 57.5 kg. Slowly getting there.

Yes my clothes are finally starting to fit better! I wrote a full what I eat in a day in an earlier post but basically I have completely cut out all biscuits, chocolate and cheese. For dinner I have lean meat and veg and I weigh my carbs. I’m eating so much more veg and salad and a lot less pasta and bread.

Well I’m going to keep it up but I’ve been lucky over the past few weeks that I’ve had no nights out or events which definitely made it easier. Over the coming weeks I’ll be going on a trip away and other nights out. My plan is to go back to aerobics ( I used to do it three times a week pre baby). Hopefully when I’m at my target weight or below, the vigorous exercise three times a week and the odd dessert/ gin will all balance out.

yoyo1234 · 06/06/2021 10:15

Hiya, I am in a similar position scared of the scales and having difficulty recognising myself (appearance and health-wise). Also post partum baby weight. I have decided to try to cut out wheat and only eat in 8 hours of a day . Aim to stick with it for a week and then weigh myself weekly (if no success after 3 weeks may be try and cut out added sugar. Out with the 8 hours I can eat I can drink as much as I like (including milk).

yoyo1234 · 06/06/2021 10:17

I put on 4 stone with past pregnancy and have terrible feeling similar could have happened. I feel am a blob with a tiny head.....

Chillychili · 06/06/2021 10:29

Hey everyone can I please join? Am 8 months PP but struggling with the last 8-9lbs. Am also short (5ft2) so feel it’s very noticeable. I am breast feeding, so treat myself every night with biscuits 😅

Mc3209 · 06/06/2021 11:07

Hello Chilli and Yoyo 👋
I have to try hard to eat cleanly, it's such an effort, but at least the weight is slowly (very slowly!) coming off..
Breastfeeding too, so I am a little paranoid about going too low on the calories, in case it will affect the supply, but I am trying to fill up on 'good' calories instead.

Jacky86 · 06/06/2021 11:50

Yes, I was also conscious of cutting calories because of breastfeeding. So far it hasn’t affected my supply. I’m eating oats every day and drinking fennel tea. Both are good for maintaining supply. I’m not fasting at all, if anything I’m eating more regularly but it’s all good food.

Piccalily19 · 06/06/2021 20:56

Hi everyone can I join? I’ve seen a couple of others have today too so hoping you won’t mind a straggler.
I’m 4months post birth and 10lbs to shift until I’m back to where I was happy with my body.
Hoping writing in this thread keeps me accountable 😫
Pre-lockdown I was quite good at exercising but now I just don’t have the energy so I think this is going to have to be very diet led!

Mc3209 · 06/06/2021 23:12

Welcome Piccalily! I haven't been to the gym yet since baby. I keep meaning to find out about their baby and mother sessions.

I might actually make a batch of lactation cookies. It's all reasonably good stuff in there, I just need to check the sugar. I had a good recipe, but I haven't made them in a while. Might be a good way to help with supply and make me feel like I am treating myself 😅

teacatten · 07/06/2021 10:50

I might join in.

I’m nearly five months pp. Only just started exercising and am yet to clean up my diet after months of chocolate biscuit binges. Motivation is at an all time low but I also feel really rubbish about the way I look and frustrated that I can’t get off my butt and sort myself out.
I am also breastfeeding, which might be something to do with it - I’m hungry constantly.
Was a large size 12 now I’m more like a 14-16. My pre pregnancy clothes fitted me better when I was actually pregnant! Tired of living in leggings and jersey fabric - want to feel like me again.

Welcome Teacatten, I could have written your post a month ago. It’s so hard when you’re used to being a certain size and I know what you mean about the clothes. I bought shorts this time last year when I was 4 months pregnant and they were perfect, tried them on last week and they don’t fit me. Hopefully we can all motivate each other 😀.
Chillychili · 07/06/2021 12:33

@Mc3209 let me know how the lactation cookies go, I have a terrible habit of needing something sweet after a meal.
Meal planning for this week, lots of salad. Finding it a bit tricky with lunch. But will try to have a stock of roasted veg in the fridge to make wraps in the day. Have to try make sure something is at least baby friendly as weaning a baby who wants to try everything

tigerbreadandtea · 07/06/2021 12:35

Just had a spinach and tuna salad for lunch. At least the weather makes it easier to eat healthily.

Mc3209 · 08/06/2021 09:08

Stepped on the scales today. 56.85kg! There is progress ☺️ This thread is excellent at keeping me motivated.

Will be making lactation cookies today, will let you know how they turn out @Chillychili

Chillychili · 08/06/2021 09:10

Hey everyone, managed to weigh myself (don’t fully trust my scales) but it’s only about 5/6lbs which makes sense as my clothes do up but don’t ‘fit’. My period is due so still eating biscuits, but eating two a day not ten, small progress :)
@tigerbreadandtea I know how you feel with the warmer weather, much easier to eat less. Very hot sunny day in cornwall so hoping this will aid progress. I have a works night out the end of June, (covid depending)
