Losing up to a stone of baby weight

tigerbreadandtea · 13/05/2021 16:15

I'm a size 12 post baby but petite and feel frumpy. The weight gain has been my stomach and hips which I guess is to be expected. I am six months post partum but have never been on a diet in my life before and don't know how or where to start. Calorie count, more exercise? I want to get back down to a size 10

@Jacky86 we sound pretty similar! It really is that mindless grazing throughout the day that adds up. I am a good cook and cook from scratch so know what healthy food is. I went on the bbc website and looked up healthy recipes for dinner ~500 calories

Yes we do sound similar. That’s a good idea about the recipes. I’ve just been sticking to lean meat & veg with plenty of protein throughout the day but I’ll mix things up a bit this week.

Really confused because I weighed myself this morning and I have lost seven pounds according to the scales. This seems highly unlikely!!!

Wow 7lbs is amazing! Well done 🎉. I lost 3lbs which I’m happy enough with, hoping for another 3 off my next week.

Hello ☺️ can I join in please? I'm almost 7 months pp, and have a stone left to lose. I put on over 4 stone in pregnancy, not counting my chunk of a baby.. this is completely new territory for me as I've always been size 8. So far, breastfeeding and walks helped, but I need the motivation to battle with those food cravings to get last 6kg off. I tend to crave meaty, fatty stuff more than sweet things, so no burgers for me anytime soon.

@Jacky86 think I may have written down my start weight wrong. Welcome @Mc3209

Yes and it’s important to weigh yourself at the same tome each week. Morning and evening would be completely different for me.
Welcome Mc3209. It’s tough when you’re used to being a certain size. The weight fell off me on my first two. Think it must be coz I’m older now.

tigerbreadandtea · 24/05/2021 20:07

I think some of my weight gain is lockdown weight too.

@Jacky86 I agree re exact time of the day each week. Even a full bladder can make 400g difference! I've tried that today 😬 My official weigh in day is Sunday first thing in the morning.

Mc3209 · 24/05/2021 22:00

@tigerbreadandtea lockdown doesn't help, does it.
We will get there.

tigerbreadandtea · 24/05/2021 22:07

I'm eating more vegetable based recipes. BBC good food is a great website for dinners under 500 calories. I just had some pear and a small individual pot of low fat custard to feel like I was having dessert. Period is coming snd I always crave sweet treats. I have a wedding in August so this is good motivation. I also want to make sure I'm at a size I'm happy at before having a second baby (would probably try next year) otherwise I can totally see how you end up just piling the weight on after a couple of kids.

Mc3209 · 24/05/2021 22:13

@tigerbreadandtea wedding is a good motivation, and plenty of time before August too.
I was thinking of trying low carb high fat type of eating. I am a bit worried I won't be able to stick to the low carb bit (something tells me I will have no problem with 'high fat' 😂)

tigerbreadandtea · 24/05/2021 22:19

@Mc3209 do you meal plan? I have done this week and ordered food shop accordingly. Otherwise I end up saying there's nothing for dinner and getting a takeaway or just making do with pasta and cheese - while delicious not exactly great for weight loss ha.

Jacky86 · 24/05/2021 22:53

Yes I agree with planning meals in advance. I have all my meals for the day planned out including snacks.

Mc3209 · 24/05/2021 23:23

Yeah, I have to meal plan. I have got a magnetic whiteboard on my fridge, and use that to plan meals for the week ahead. I'm not too bad with dinner, but lunches are my downfall, that's when I'm the most guilty of eating rubbish/getting a take away.

Mc3209 · 26/05/2021 16:56

I did not eat rubbish today. I know the day is not over yet, but the danger time for me has passed (mostly). Feels almost like an achievement!

tigerbreadandtea · 29/05/2021 08:55

How's everyone doing? I'm not weighing myself again until I have had my period end. Baby has been fighting sleep so badly in the day that I have done shitloads of walking the last couple of days and not had time to eat much haha.

Jacky86 · 29/05/2021 11:10

I lost 4 pounds this week!! So that’s 7 pounds in 2 weeks. I’m thrilled 😁

tigerbreadandtea · 29/05/2021 18:15

@Jacky86 that's half a stone! I have just tried on shorts and dresses from my summer box and feel so fat! Definitely motivation to continue. What are you eating on a typical day?

OP posts:
Jacky86 · 29/05/2021 20:08

Breakfast: oats, fat free yogurt & blueberries and a boiled egg or a turkey rasher

Snack: coffee with skimmed milk, apple, 10 almonds

Lunch: child’s wrap filled with sliced ham, spread of laughing cow light and salad

Snack: mint tea, strawberries & fat free yogurt

Dinner: chicken & veg stir fry/ low fat chicken curry/ Spag Bol using lean mince and homemade sauce

Snack: 20g of popcorn

Two litres of water daily
One hour of walking daily

Mc3209 · 29/05/2021 23:10

My weigh in day is tomorrow. This has been a good week food wise. My baby is fighting sleep as well, so I am constantly on the go too. Let's see if that made a difference.
@Jacky86 that's fabulous progress! You've inspired me to do better with my water. I could definitely drink more.

tigerbreadandtea · 30/05/2021 08:56

@Jacky86 I need to drink more water too!

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 30/05/2021 15:35

I haven't lost any weight this week 😕 Disappointed, all that effort and self restraint, with not much to show for it. Will need to keep plodding on..

tigerbreadandtea · 30/05/2021 20:59

I have barely eaten today, I think it's the heat!

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 01/06/2021 09:37

I weighed myself today again, and I am half a kilo lighter 😁 57.65kg. So there is progress!
Weather is beautiful, it makes me so happy! I am definitely a summer creature. I got a sunshade for DS to put up in the garden and it's arriving today. Very much looking forward to trying it out. Need to do a bit of gardening, weeds are taking over the front lawn.
