Mutual support thread for those currently losing or working towards losing a lot of weight

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/03/2021 21:53

This is a mutual support thread for anyone who wants (and needs) to lose a lot of weight, is mid way through losing a lot of weight, or is nearing the end of a big weight loss and wants to continue to support and be supported as maintenance approaches.

The previous thread has been massively helpful to regular posters, as we share both our losses and our plateau or gains, congratulate or console, and talk about what works for us while understanding that different things work for different people, and we are all different ages, all have different families/ households/ people to plan around, different commitments, different working lives and different health conditions which partly determine our approaches.

We are all on this journey together - this thread is for us to encourage one another, post updates, chat about what we're doing, how we're doing, share stories and thoughts and sometimes wander slightly off topic if we want, but everyone posting should be somewhere along the journey towards escaping high BMI obesity.

The previous thread was started by someone who no longer posts and initially asked how to lose 9 stone - it developed into a support thread for people with varying amounts left to lose but all of whom started out with at least 5 or 6 stone + / 30 or 35 kg + to lose, very roughly...

No links to selling sites or unsolicited "helpful" lectures please - mutual support from existing and new posters all actually living this big weight loss now, or just starting out, welcome!

@MamaNewtNewt that sounds so hard and staying on the healthy eating is probably the last thing on your mind. But @Zebracat is right it would be best for your recovery so maybe give yourself a set amount of time where you can have chocolate etc and then ask DH to only buy healthy snacks going forwards. Hope it all goes well today Flowers

MamaNewtNewt · 29/05/2021 06:32

Yeah thanks I did need to hear that right now as it would definitely be for the best if I can keep the healthy eating going and it rally is tempting to think I deserve to eat all the bad stuff. Plus imagine how amazing it will be in a few months when I'm finally allowed to get on the scales Smile

FatCatThinCat · 29/05/2021 08:19

Weigh in for me today. I've lost 1.2 kg and am over the moon as that's the first loss for quite a few weeks. I'm currently weighing 114.9 kg so have 3.9 kg to lose before I'm back to where I was a few weeks ago. So current total loss is 25.1 kg. Only 49.9 kg to go ...

MamaNewtNewt · 29/05/2021 08:33

Well done @FatCatThinCat that's great!

WeightlossKin · 29/05/2021 09:42

Well done @FatCatThinCat! 😊 I bet it's lovely to feel some movement downward after a few weeks!

FatCatThinCat · 29/05/2021 11:56

It's a relief to know why I was overeating and therefore being able to do something about it. Not knowing sends my mental into freefall.

Readytostartagain · 29/05/2021 12:49

Well done @FatCatThinCat that’s brilliant Smile

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 29/05/2021 14:54

MamaNewtNewt good plan to just have the chocolate once then keep things under control - excellent willpower there but definitely the right choice as you're going to be forced to be inactive. Being unable to help yourself to snacks to drown your sorrows can definitely be reframed as a silver lining if you choose to... Flowers

FatCatThinCat well done that's great!

That's brilliant @FatCatThinCat

I still haven't been on the scales this week, but I've been feeling a bit unwell. Sore throat, cough etc and just generally feeling a bit yucky, so probably just going to focus on getting myself better. My partner ordered from Pizza Hut yesterday, but I managed to stay good, well as good as I could! And had a salad, which was really nice, a couple slices of garlic bread, one slice of pizza and a couple of chicken wings. Plus I had chicken soup for lunch earlier that day, so hoping I didn't have too many calories. Too scared to check lol

ScottishBeth · 29/05/2021 15:03

@MamaNewtNewt so sorry to hear about your ankle! How is it feeling now? I guess you will have had the first surgery by now - please let us know how it went. And even though you won't be able to weigh yourself it'd be great if you keep posting. Just for a bit of support. I agree with the others don't spend the next few weeks eating nothing but chocolate! But make sure you're kind to yourself as well!

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme I hope you are feeling a bit better now! It's so difficult with lockdowns and things closed and everything. I hope you enjoyed the pizza as well!

@BippityBoppity87 have you weighed yourself? It's so annoying waiting for that 1lb to drop!

@WeightlossKin well done on the loss!

@FatCatThinCat that's a fantastic weightloss! Also your total loss so far is amazing! Well done Smile

I am back from my holiday. Honestly it was so nice being away. I cried when I had to think about coming home. I think because things are a bit stressful with being off sick for so long. But I've contacted the staff support team at work to get some emotional support with everything, so that should help. And I think the holiday has done me a world of good. I did well over 3000 steps a day, every day, and still felt good. I know 3000 doesn't sound like much, but it's a lot for me at the moment, given how ill I've been.

Anyway, I weighed myself this morning. I was really worried that I was basically going to be back at my start weight, but I was 87.7, which is only 1kg more than my lightest! So I'm very pleased about that Grin

I really want to get down to 85.9, which will be my first milestone, of having lost 5%. It's pretty unlikely I'll lose that in a week, but if I really focus hopefully I'll do it in 2.

ScottishBeth · 29/05/2021 15:09

@BippityBoppity87 sorry you've been unwell! When I posted before I hadn't seen your post. I hope you feel better soon. And sounds like you wer very restrained with the takeaway!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 29/05/2021 15:41

ScottishBeth well done on not gaining much on holiday and staying active. I hope you reach your 5% goal soon!
The stupid thing is I don't especially like pizza - I don't not like it, its ok, its just one of the things that I eat because everyone else likes it... A real treat meal for me would be a pile of piping hot toast dripping with butter and real bitter marmalade (hard to find in Germany) or good honey Blush or a massive jacket potatoe with cheese and beans, or fried eggs with still liquid yolks on toast... or good fish and chips and mushy peas or a really good lamb rogan josh - both hard to get around here, and fish and chips impossible - pizza is just meh. Although I do like not having to cook...

I've actually realised I eat a lot of things because I am supposed to like them, and my family or other people like them, they're seen as a treat and I absolutely loathe fussy eating and performance dieting and refuse to be that person BlushGrin but I don't actually especially care whether I ever eat pizza or cake again - I realised a while ago that cake is overrated, but you're supposed to want it aren't you? If you say no you're "on a diet" - meh. I'm not virtuous - I love chocolate and chocolate digestives dipped in tea Blush but sometimes I know I waste high calorie "treat" eating on things the rest of the family likes, or even occasionally at work when everyone is having some "treat" and passing it around, that I wouldn't miss if I never ate them again...

BippityBoppity87 get well soon!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 29/05/2021 15:42

potato not toe obviously!

OP posts:
BippityBoppity87 · 29/05/2021 17:02

Thanks everyone. I had some co-codamol, went straight to my head Blush I just wanted the pain to go away, which it has a bit. Now I just feel weird lol. I rarely take pain medication so could be why. I won't take anymore today

I'm exactly the same as you @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme I'm not a huge pizza fan either. I just had a slice of my partners. I much prefer jacket potatoes, and like you said toast with lots of butter, bread in general, pasta, things like that. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, I just like my carbs too much! That's my problem. But I've cut down massively though. I still have some for time to time, but not as much

Zebracat · 30/05/2021 07:46

Well, this is depressing. Gained back 1.1 kilos today. So 95.3. I have been a bit off the boil, had my second vaccine and sat around waiting for side effects for 2 days. And we welcomed a new baby into the family and took a feast with us when we went to meet her and I had 2 snack size Mars bars and 2 soleros yesterday( gardening) Still feels a bit harsh though! Because I did keep within my calories.
So I haven’t met my goal to be comfortably under 95 by the end of May. Goal for June is to finish the month under 92. So we will see.
Good luck to all the Sunday weighers. @MamaNewtNewt, Ihope you had a reasonable night.

Readytostartagain · 30/05/2021 09:59

Oh no @Zebracat what a pain. Did you get dehydrated gardening? Sometimes I find if I go the next day I seem to hold onto extra fluid. 1lb down for me this week- not stellar but if I kept it up I could be 2stone lighter by the end of the year 🤞

Zebracat · 30/05/2021 10:43

Hmm interesting @Readytostartagain. Did get dehydrated. Maybe it’s not a real gain. . It’s just I worry that I’m slipping back into my old ways. And I am. I’m sitting here now snarfing biscuits and grapes. Silly me.

Zebracat · 30/05/2021 10:43

But well done on your loss. I think a pound is lovely.

Readytostartagain · 30/05/2021 12:59

Thanks @Zebracat now put the biscuits away or it will be a real gain! I just always feel weight takes so much longer to lose than it does to gain

Rebuildingconfidence · 30/05/2021 15:23

@Zebracat I have had a gain too, back to 101kgs. Annoying but I have been indulging myself and gone pretty much off plan for some reason so I only have myself to blame.

I have been good at focusing on my well being this week. I got mt hair cut and I went swimming! So I am feeling great and very relaxed.

Hopefully next week will be better!

Zebracat · 30/05/2021 18:58

@Rebuildingconfidence. I am pleased to hear you are looking after yourself. Let’s try to stick to our plans this week. Are you planking?Although I am doing afternoon tea tomorrow and a family reunion dinner on Tuesday. I need to be disciplined the rest of the time.

Rebuildingconfidence · 31/05/2021 09:34

@Zebracat I haven't been planking but I will start again today!

I have a motivating goal for this month as I hope to meet up with friends in July who I haven't seen in a long time and I would like to not be the size I am now.

Yesterday I met up with a friend and beforehand I tried on a lot of clothes which looked bad. Tummy was jutting out a lot. So that is motivation too.

Let's have a good week this week, exercise, good food, water, sleep, and caring for ourselves.

WeightlossKin · 31/05/2021 20:41

@Rebuildingconfidence that sounds like good motivation to stay on track! I've got a mini goal for July too as we're going away for the weekend and I'm not buying anything new as I want to fit back into my shorts and floaty trousers that were almost too big last year. 4 weeks on Thursday! So I better get on it.

I lost another 1lb this week. Surprised!! Sadly today I've had a bit of a wobbly flap and seem to need to eat everything in sight 😬 I've only just broken my calorie target for the day, so it's not the end of the world but it really could have been healthier choices! I have prepared slimming world pancakes for breakfast tomorrow to get me off to a good start. 😊 If I lose 1lb and 5oz I'll be in the next stone bracket, so hoping for that next week 🤞
Hope everyone has had a good start to the week!

Zebracat · 31/05/2021 21:47

Yes. Let’s make this a good week. I have mydaughters wedding in July, and my dress doesn’t do up! We had an afternoon tea hen party this pm, so I have eaten lots of crap, but I did a really long swim first, which kind of covered the calories. Weirdly realised that I no longer enjoy sweet foods, my teeth hurt!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 01/06/2021 11:21

Zebracat how annoying! Hopefully its not a true gain - sugar inflammation can be as bad as salt water retention for that I think.A week of unprocessed foods and plenty of water might see a good readjustment ... I hope you are enjoying all your planned events though, it sounds as though you've got a good amount of social stuff going on!

Readytostartagain and WeightlossKin well done!

I've got DD's "graduation" (as in school not university) at the end of July - the teens all wear evening dress or traditional national costume and DD has a very elegant cocktail dress) I wasn't sure they'd even be allowed guests but DD informs me me that I need to book the day off work and wear a dress - she has in fact expressed a preference about which dress ShockGrin and she wants her brothers there in suits, which they're astonishingly willing to try... I think H&M suits will suffice for a 13 and 10 year old both growing like weeds Grin. So also a July "dressing up" event, though as a background character.
