@weefae You won’t have a restriction on liquids, as it can all just flow straight through. Restriction comes from eating textured and solid foods.

QueenOfPain · 11/04/2021 11:33

@itsalifetimesworkfella

The feeling of fullness and satiety is referred to as “restriction”. It’ll happen quickly once the PP goes onto thicker textures and proper food.

Ahhh. Interesting, thank you.

I thought maybe it was like a gastric band that literally restricted food able to go down (mine didn't hence them being pretty useless).

QueenOfPain · 11/04/2021 11:48

@itsalifetimesworkfella Well it’s the same kind of principle as the stomach as been made permanently smaller which is what the gastric band artificially replicates. But there’s absolutely no doubt that you’d have restriction with a sleeve or a bypass provided you’re not eating slider foods regularly to get round it.

itsalifetimesworkfella · 11/04/2021 11:51

@QueenOfPain

That's my fear. That my own bad habits and food addiction will scupper my chances. I've had counselling and the hospital I'm going with has a support group so I'm hoping that helps.

AwFeebs · 11/04/2021 20:00

@itsalifetimesworkfella thank you! I know you're right.

@QueenOfPain & @MindBodyChocolate thank you both! Again I know you're both right.

I guess it's normal to have a little wobble, it is a major decision after all.

Don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight! Have to be at the hospital for 7.10AM Smile

PUER125 · 11/04/2021 23:08

@AwFeebs, good luck for tomorrow.
I am 15 days post-op, and believe I have been given a second chance at life. Yes, surgery cost a lot, but the new life I can now live makes it all worthwhile.

itsalifetimesworkfella · 11/04/2021 23:42

Sending @AwFeebs lots of support for tomorrow.

❤️

AwFeebs · 12/04/2021 06:54

Thank you all!

I've just arrived at the Alexandra now. Grin

RalphtheMouth · 12/04/2021 10:14

Good luck @AwFeebs

I’m two weeks post bypass and feeling fine - 25lbs down since start of LRD and pleased with progress so far. So looking forward to the next phase of food though, not a fan of puréed food!

Glad to see you’re doing well @PUER125

WeeFae · 12/04/2021 10:53

Hi all, thought I'd elaborate on my WLS story a bit.

I traveled to Turkey (Irmet hospital in Istanbul) and the cost for my mini bypass was £2950 (plus flights & covid costs).

I had my surgery on 1st April. I had some internal bleeding after and needed a bloo transfusion. I was still able to go home on day 5 though, with my friend who had traveled with me and also had surgery.

The hospital was amazing, the nurses really looked after me and even gave us massages! The rooms were spotless and cleaners came in twice a day. I had a nice room, the bathroom was hotel standard and there was a TV with Netflix.

I was given a whole load of tests pre-surgery including endoscopy, CT scan, ultrasound of abdomen and legs, blood tests and lung capacity.

Coming home was quite easy, I just slept through the flight home!

Im now day 12 I think? Ive had some thin soups and can manage a whole bowlfull. Today I had a mini pot of hummus as I need something savoury - I also managed to eat the whole pot with no full feeling. Hopeing it kicks in at some point! Grin

Good luck to those getting their surgery soon!

@BigToLittle

Hi all, I am coming out from lurking! I am teetering on the edge of booking my gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey for end of June. I know a few people here have gone through GetSlimInTurkey... I think i am just after a little reassurance to push myself over into booking flights and confirming the surgery!
Hi @BigToLittle I have booked to go with Get Slim in Turkey on 29th June. I'm really nervous about the whole thing especially having to travel, but I could ever afford the prices here in the U.K. let me know if you do book and I might see you there!
PUER125 · 13/04/2021 00:51

@RalphtheMouth, I have done three days of pureed food and I am not a fan either. I had shepherd's pie today, with pureed mince, and it looked disgusting. I topped it with mashed sweet potato for a bit of colour. Lunches are okay as I am having various pureed soups. I am missing my crusty bread with Lurpak with the soup though.
32lbs down from the start of my LRD, which I am really p!eased with.
The only disappointment so far, is that I have gone off tea. I don't drink coffee, so I hope my taste for tea returns.

BigToLittle · 13/04/2021 10:56

@CatalinaCasesolver That's the date i am looking at going! Coming back on the 3rd?
Would you mind me asking what your flight routes are? That is literally the only thing putting me off at the moment is the restriction of direct flights... not sure I want to do a connecting flight post-surgery!
Please feel free to inbox me if you'd rather not share publically x

@BigToLittle I am flying Gatwick direct to Izmir with easyJet and if they get cancelled I will move my surgery to later in the year.
Coming back on 3rd too :)

wombatsandaplant · 13/04/2021 15:10

Hi,

I’m tentatively considering bariatric surgery. My bmi is 59. I was also fat as I ate too much then put on 50 kg due to a medication I was on.

My psychiatrist offered to refer me for bariatric surgery a couple years ago but I was no where near ready then. I’ve been having therapy for 6 months for food addiction and bingeing. I don’t really binge anymore at all. And it’s getting less and less frequent. I had a small binge last week but before that it was about a month, which is great as it used to be everyday.

Anyhow, I have an appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow so I’m going to ask if he can refer me for it, just so I can explore the option of it. I’m still very much in two minds about it though. But I’d like to explore the option of it.

Anyone in Scotland, is it any different to the English system?

I’m trying to find out as much about the options as I can.

BigToLittle · 13/04/2021 18:50

@CatalinaCasesolver

Those are the same dates and locations as me! Dare i even ask what hospital you've chosen? I am leaning more towards Godze at the moment... Are you on the private fb group?

CatalinaCasesolver · 14/04/2021 10:25

@BigToLittle I went with EKOL because I wanted Dr. Ismail, and they have requested him for me. I think Gozde is a better location and nicer hospital but I was also looking at the type of staples they use and there was more information on google about the kind of staples they use at EKOL. Tbh I think it's much of a muchness though and personal choice!

Yes I'm on the fb group, are you? If you PM me I'll send you my name haha

AwFeebs · 14/04/2021 12:29

Hi everyone..

Surgery went well on Monday, came home yesterday late afternoon.

Not feeling too bad, just wiped out and sore.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

MindBodyChocolate · 15/04/2021 17:27

Well done @AwFeebs!! I felt very tired for a while afterwards. Hopefully once you get going with food again you’ll feel more energetic.

RalphtheMouth · 16/04/2021 09:49

Glad all went well @AwFeebs.

Three weeks post op today, 2 stone down and feeling really positive. Had dietician appointment and she said to start introducing mashed food next week so excited for that.

Everyone else getting on ok?

MindBodyChocolate · 16/04/2021 11:20

Great results already @RalphtheMouth!! Mashed is so good after purées. My dietitian also said I could have a cracker or toast in the mash stage if I chewed incredibly well and it was a revelation after so long not having anything with a crunch!!

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

PUER125 · 17/04/2021 09:57

Very disappointed today. I only get weighed on Saturday mornings, so got on the scale today, and nothing. I have lost nothing this week!
I am three weeks post-op, and six weeks from the start of my LRD, and definitely didn't expect to stall at this stage.
I have been having pureed food for the past week, which I am not enjoying, so am perhaps not eating as much as I should be. I am still drinking milk though, probably at least a litre per day.
I even got on the scales six times to make sure they were working, and they didn't waver once.
Very frustrated!

QueenOfPain · 17/04/2021 10:26

Try not to get too stressed about it @PUER125.

I stall every other week, I lose 5-6lbs one week, and nothing the next, then lose again. It was stressful at first, but now I anticipate that pattern it’s a lot easier to deal with.

Are you getting all your water in? My losses are very much water dependant, if I’m poorly hydrated I don’t lose.

CoronaCurls · 17/04/2021 11:41

@PEUR125 I stalled in my 2nd week post-surgery- mainly because I was eating mostly peanut butter.
It made me start tracking protein and calories properly and I've lost every week since then.

I got to 8 stone off this week and am feeling amazing! The weight loss and starting to feel normal has helped my mental health far more than I expected it to.
