I'm just curious are we allowed like a frube type yoghurt on the liquid stage PO as they're quite thing compared to protein Yoghurts.

I've emailed my dietician but just wondered what everyone else thought

MindBodyChocolate · 17/04/2021 12:50

@PUER125 don’t lose heart - there’s often a stall early on. And everyone loses differently as @QueenOfPain says - I lose 1-3lbs every week, never more, but very rarely nothing. That’s very frustrating sometimes too as I’d love to have huge losses all at once but it will probably even out over 12-18 months.

MindBodyChocolate · 17/04/2021 12:51

Well done @CoronaCurls. 8 stone is a magnificent achievement.

CoronaCurls · 17/04/2021 17:20

Thanks @MindBodyChocolate 😊
I even wore shorts today - only in the garden but it felt brilliant.

PUER125 · 18/04/2021 01:15

Thank you for the reassurance. I shall try to increase my fluids and see if that helps.

Ladybird69 · 18/04/2021 04:34

Hi, I’ve been referred to the nhs for operation but been going through the motions/hoops, plus COVID and I’m no closer now than I was 2+ years ago, I’m so frustrated. I’ve come into some money so been wondering whether to go abroad. I’m just a little worried as I’d have to go alone. My bmi is 64 and I know that surgeon will want me to lose weight first but I can’t lose weight on my own that’s why I need the op. And done all the psycho babble and nutritional stuff so I know I can’t lose it on my own. My metabolism is shot after all the crap I’ve put it through. I lost over 9 stone on lighter life but the weight just piled back on. I don’t care about fashion and what I look like I just want to be healthier. Anyone else had a bmi like mine and managed to get to a healthy weight?

Seriouslyconfused3 · 19/04/2021 15:51

Hey how is everyone getting on?

Apologies for the downbeat post but I’m starting to feel a bit disheartened tbh. Weight loss is slowing down. I’ve lost a total of 77% of my excess weight since October. Does anyone know if that is good/bad/average?

I’m now wearing a size 12/14 quite comfortably but feel like I look enormous. Is that quite a common thing? I really do need to tone up tho- my tummy is awful.

Glad everyone is doing so well (especially the newbies- the first few weeks are definitely tough)

Seriouslyconfused3 · 19/04/2021 15:54

@PUER125 my 3 week stall was an absolute bitch- but it was just a stall- the weight fell off afterwards. Just keep going and stay off the scales if you can

OP posts:
AwFeebs · 19/04/2021 15:59

@ladybird69

My BMI wasn't that but I bet if you join the group on FB for bariatric surgery someone will have definitley be in the same position as you.

@Seriouslyconfused3 that's amazing! I think it's normal, our head needs time to catch up with the physical weight loss I think.

My first weigh in today since op last Monday, scales said - 12lb which I'm thrilled with. Also got me down in the next stone bracket which is positive.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 19/04/2021 16:05

@AwFeebs that’s a brilliant start. I think it must be psychological. I keep ordering clothes 2 sizes too big and having to return them. I don’t really feel any different in my mind

OP posts:
MindBodyChocolate · 19/04/2021 17:35

@Seriouslyconfused3 - 77% loss so far sounds great. I’m not on course to achieve that in your timeframe. Size 12/14 is also amazing - but I do think it takes a while for brains to catch up and appreciate weight loss in the mirror.

I was thinking similarly yesterday about how wrinkly my neck looks now. I then found a pic of myself from last summer and sure enough my neck was non wrinkled. It was also surrounded in a mini tyre of fat that I’d barely registered beforehand. Looking objectively I prefer my skinnier wrinkly neck but it’s hard to focus on the positives sometimes.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 19/04/2021 18:14

Thanks @MindBodyChocolate maybe I’m hormonal or something I’m normally much more positive than this. Everyone is so complementary about my loss and I just don’t see it myself. I hope that changes Confused I’m really conscious of my face looking wrinkly too! I’ve always looked quite young (and padded with fat Blush) and feel like I’m going to age overnight. I’ll take the wrinkles though- it’s worth it to be able to jog again without feeling like I’m going to die!

Need to get back on track with my protein and water though- it’s so easy to slip with it. Getting sick of protein water now too

Hi all! Can I join? Sleeved 3 weeks ago.
Initially lost 16 pounds now stalled for 1.5 weeks.

I am quite scared by how much I can now eat - its a lot compared to when I first came out of surgery. I can do 600 - 700 cals a day without difficulty and can tolerate everything. I am also hungry when its meal times.

Did anyone else find this? I have a fear of not losing or stretching out the sleeve (even though I always stop when I feel full).

Summerbreezer · 19/04/2021 20:02

I suppose as well (sorry, following on from my last post) that I am just getting my head away from "get something down you" to "actually I need to start calorie tracking now". Cheese is my absolute downfall, I could eat that all day before surgery, and I don't want to use the fact its high protein to do the same after!

AwFeebs · 19/04/2021 20:25

@Summerbreezer I wouldn't worry apparently it takes a huge amounts of repetitive bad choices to actually stretch our sleeve.

What foods are you on now?

Also when did everyone return to driving after their op?

Mylittlesandwich · 20/04/2021 17:30

I've finally made a call, I have an appointment on Monday to talk about surgery. I weighed myself recently and I weigh more than I thought I did and that's after loosing some weight, my clothes are fitting better.

QueenOfPain · 20/04/2021 19:07

@AwFeebs

I was told not to drive for two weeks.

MindBodyChocolate · 21/04/2021 14:48

Yes, 2 weeks no driving for me.

Non scale victory today: got a lovely pure linen blazer from charity shop today for £9 - size 16 Star Really pleased. Started as a big size 22 nearly 6 months ago and I’m happy with progress so far.

Kamma89 · 23/04/2021 07:36

@Seriouslyconfused3 77% is over what most people lose with sleeve. I think it's the majority lose 60-70% of excess weight total! So don't feel down, you're doing amazing.

@Summerbreezer I too could tolerate just about anything (bar veg, annoyingly) from very early out. Even in the puree stage I was getting in around 600 calories. On normal food I get in from 750-1000! a day & I'm at about 75% excess weight lost since October. (I am tall & active though) Don't fear hunger or obsess over calories, you'll find what works for you. Previous poster has it right, you have to make a lot of bad choices continuously to stretch sleeve.

MananaForever · 25/04/2021 07:09

This thread has been so helpful. I had my dietician appointment yesterday and I’m just waiting for a surgery date now. I’ve been told it would be end of May or start of June. It’s not great timing as I start a new job tomorrow and I’m going to have to ask for 2 weeks off pretty much straight away and I don’t think that is going to go down well.

Those who are post-op, what did you tell work/colleagues about the surgery?

I feel really anxious about telling people I’m having it done. I feel so embarrassed.

I will need to tell them that I need time off for surgery, I can’t lie and pretend it’s a holiday can I? I’m thinking of saying something vague about needing a minor operation and hoping they don’t ask exactly what? Blush

Did anyone go back to work sooner than 2 weeks? I’m wondering if I would feel well enough to work from home after 1 week.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 25/04/2021 08:16

@MananaForever congrats on getting the ball rolling!

Best excuses I’ve seen on the fb groups are gall bladder removal or some sort of gynae surgery (people don’t tend to ask questions)

OP posts:
MindBodyChocolate · 25/04/2021 10:25

We’ll done @MananaForever - I didn’t tell ppl at work. I said I was having a hernia repair. I don’t feel bad about this because the WLS was ‘necessary’ (I don’t think anyone has it unless they have no other options), it’s health related and you don’t have to tell work chapter and verse your personal medical details. I’m not ashamed of having it done - I tell non work people - I just didn’t want it to become a ‘thing’ at work.

RalphtheMouth · 25/04/2021 10:27

@MananaForever I told my boss I was having my gallbladder removed and other colleagues I just said a small operation.

Good luck with everything.

MananaForever · 25/04/2021 13:47

I just know that if I say I’m having my gallbladder removed then sods law says that I’ll develop gallstones and end up needed it actually removed and then getting in a complete pickle 😂

Hernia repair is a pretty safe option, as is a gynae operation, can’t imagine my male boss will want to know any details! Thanks for the ideas.

If you didn’t tell colleagues about the op how did you explain your weight loss at work? People are so nosey, I know there will be all the ‘what diet are you doing’ questions?

RalphtheMouth · 25/04/2021 14:02

@MananaForever I had mine removed 20 years ago so was a safe option for me!

I’m only 4 weeks out (lost 32lbs) but work from home so nobody noticing yet. I’ll just say smaller portions if I get asked.
