I am finally home. I had the sleeve gastrectomy on Saturday which went very well, and have had absolutely no pain whatsoever.
Unfortunately, I was unable to keep any fluids down other than by IV, and since I couldn't come home with a drip, I spent 4 nights in hospital. (Fortunately, surgery was a fixed price so it didn't cost me any more, and being a Yorkshire girl, I was happy to get a bit extra free).
The journey now begins!
@RalphtheMouth, glad to hear your surgery went well. Please don't try to do too much. Relax in the sunshine, and just 'potter about' occasionally.

Kamma89 · 01/04/2021 09:30

Bit late, but @CoronaCurls please keep us updated on skin issues! I'm like you, lost lots, quickly but no skin problems yet (5.5 months out). Surgeon said it can sort of just start to happen one day, almost like it realises there is nothing there to support it anymore Grin he also advised not to regain or stop losing to fill it out as the skin improves/recovers for up to 2 years once you're at maintenance. Improved diet & increased exercise can really help, to a point.

I'm 100% going to want boobs done but they have never been smaller than a G cup even at 10 stone & a size 8. At my heaviest they went to a JJ so they've been inflated & deflated regularly. I'm dreading what they'll look like at goal!

RalphtheMouth · 01/04/2021 10:16

@PUER125 glad to hear from you, I’ve been checking for posts. You feeling ok now?

I’m doing ok, not very good at doing nothing. Puréed food is vile I have to say 😀. Think I’ll live on soups until the mashing stage. You managing to eat?

MindBodyChocolate · 01/04/2021 19:58

@PUER125 sorry to hear you had to stay in hospital a bit longer but fingers crossed you’re moving in the right direction now. Hope you’re getting some liquids and purées in - I found it the toughest stage!!

@RalphtheMouth are you feeling ok now?

RalphtheMouth · 01/04/2021 21:15

Hi @MindBodyChocolate thanks for asking, I’m fine now.

Have a good Easter all!

PUER125 · 01/04/2021 22:18

@RalphtheMouth and @MindBodyChocolate, I am feeling so much better today thank you.
I have had lots of milk today, along with cordial, and a cup of hot chocolate. I don't like tepid drinks so will have to use my travel mug for any hot drinks, I think.
I am surprised you are tolerating pureed food already. I can't contemplate the thought of anything other than fluids. In fact, walking into my pantry just makes my stomach heave at the sight of all the food.
I am treating the fluid only stage as starting on the day I left hospital, not the day of the op, so I am taking it slowly. I don't want to jeopardise my progress. Of course, in a couple of days, I might be changing my mind on that.

RalphtheMouth · 01/04/2021 22:28

@PUER125 glad you’re feeling better. With Streamline it is straight away purée food for 4 weeks then mashed food for another 4. I’ve been having 120 mls in a small ramekin dish 3 x a day. I’ve also had the odd tea and coffee (small espresso sized cups) in between, plus water though I’m sure nowhere near the 2 litres yet.

Take it slowly and at your own pace.

GreenEyedMonsterMunch · 03/04/2021 11:03

I always find it so strange that different clinics have different rules about the food stages. Mine were no fluids til day 3 after op then water only til day 5 then fluids for 2 weeks then 2 weeks of puree then on to soft food then normal from the week after.

I'm almost 6 weeks out now, still can't eat more than 2-3 spoonfuls although I had the most amazing 1/4 of fishcake last night with white sauce. Not something I'd have even looked at pre op so I am glad my taste has changed a little anyway as usually I'd only be happy with chinese/indian food.

CoronaCurls · 05/04/2021 13:09

How did everyone get on over Easter?

I didn't get an egg for myself, and made a meringue dessert that I knew I could eat.

I want to get to 8 stone off far more than I want any chocolate!

MindBodyChocolate · 05/04/2021 19:54

Hi everyone - hope everyone has had a good Easter. @CoronaCurls well done on avoiding chocolate! I haven’t had any either. Any sweet tooth I used to have has disappeared so it isn’t really a sacrifice. And like you, for the first time ever I’m prioritising health and weight loss over food. Weird Smile

I had a great weigh in on Saturday - I was 14 stone 13 and reaching the 14 stone bracket felt amazing. I never thought I’d see 14 stone anything again and for the first time since starting at 19 stone 2lbs I feel like I’m really making progress. My mind is going to be blown when I get to 13 stone 13!!!!

QueenOfPain · 06/04/2021 16:40

I’ve had a little bit of chocolate over Easter, two of the mini creme eggs (smaller than a normal one) and about three thumbnail sized pieces my DP broke off his egg for me. But I just sat and let it all melt on my tongue rather than rushing through it.

I was given an Easter egg by work and got to choose one of a selection, I deliberately chose the one that came with a mug and less chocolate and all the chocolate has gone into the treat jar for a rainy day or visitors. I now have a nice new symbolic mug. Pre-surgery I’d have probably barrelled through the whole egg and the sweets that came with it before I’d even finished my shift.

I’m now at 74.5lbs down since my LRD started on Dec 14th. Still in awe have how well it’s all gone and how easy everything is. I’m going to think about restarting HelloFresh deliveries soon, but splitting my portion into 2-3 meals so that I can take leftovers to work or lunch the next day.

Jubilate · 06/04/2021 20:45

I'm still waiting for a dietician referral from my surgeon. I think I've been waiting about two weeks which feels interminable. I think I imagined it would all move a bit quicker. It has given me time to think and read a lot. I'll maybe give it a couple of days and then chase it up.

PUER125 · 07/04/2021 07:39

Things could not be going better here.
One month from starting my Liver reducing diet, and 10 days post surgery, I am 2 stones down.
My liquids only phase is going well, and I am starting to plan meals for the puree stage.
I did overdo it yesterday, pushing a trolley round Asda, I bought so much long-life milk it weighed a ton. I felt dizzy and clammy, and had to have a lie down. Soon felt back to normal.
Life is good!

CoronaCurls · 07/04/2021 07:42

That's great news @PEUR125 but make sure you keep taking it easy!

Have you tried the Bob protein-enriched milk? It tastes like normal milk with more protein and no fat.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 07/04/2021 10:34

@CoronaCurls Bob milk is my new favourite thing!

Well done @PUER125!! It all starts to get easier once your over the first couple of weeks

MindBodyChocolate · 07/04/2021 14:21

Well done @PUER125 - it’s an amazing feeling when the weight starts coming off. It’s easy to overdo things in the early stages so take it easy!

Jubilate · 07/04/2021 15:00

That's great news. I'm glad you are reaping the rewards of your hard work.

AwFeebs · 10/04/2021 15:44

Had my pre op yesterday in preparation for surgery on Monday. Grin

I'm starting to have a wobble though.

MindBodyChocolate · 10/04/2021 17:18

@AwFeebs - it’s normal to have a wobble. It’s also normal to think ‘what have I done?!’ when you wake up from surgery. But from then on it’s all good. You’ll feel lighter and healthier very quickly! Is there anything particular you’re worried about?

AwFeebs · 10/04/2021 17:44

@MindBodyChocolate

Just that I'm going to have it and fault miserably with it like past diets. I also feel guilty for spending so much money on myself when it's my own doing. Blush

I'm excited though as well.

MindBodyChocolate · 11/04/2021 10:20

@AwFeebs - I definitely felt like that too but it is different to normal diets. I can’t really explain it but it’s not like ‘being in a diet’. And the cost is significant but it’s 100% worth it. Best of luck with everything tomorrow - let us know how you get on when you’re feeling up to it!!

QueenOfPain · 11/04/2021 10:36

It’s definitely not like being on a diet, to me it feels more like absolute freedom and peace from dieting and those kind of worries. I just follow the rules of my surgery now and my body does the rest.

WeeFae · 11/04/2021 11:13

Had a mini gastric bypass on 1st April. Still feeling a bit weak and tired, but returning to home working tomorrow.

I am still on the liquid stage but seem to have no restriction so far, which is worrying!

No restriction? Can you elaborate?

itsalifetimesworkfella · 11/04/2021 11:28

@AwFeebs

Every penny you spend on your health and well-being is worth it. Thanks
