Losing baby weight during lockdown

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 13/01/2021 09:43

Just looking for some help really! I just feel really lost with motivation and knowing what I should be doing.

So my situation - about 3.5 stone overweight, 5 month old baby, ebf. Currently taking the baby for a walk every day and going for a (very short!) run three times a week.

I know the key is diet really but I'm just SO hungry all the time and seem to have developed a sugar addiction to boot. My dp has lost loads of weight during lockdown as he's very strict at low-carbing but I'm vegetarian and don't like to eat a lot of dairy so if I restrict carbs what the hell do I eat? And I really need to cut out the evening biscuits/chocolate but I'm just so fed up at the moment with January and lockdown and being stuck at home with the baby that it's the only thing I have to look forward to or that feels like a treat. How do I kick the habit? I never used to eat so much junk and I don't buy chocolate for myself but we have a massive stash in the house left over from Christmas/birthday presents etc.

Any advice welcome! I know what I should do theoretically but everything is just so shit at the moment it's difficult just getting out of bed in the morning. But I really want to be back in my nice clothes this summer instead of wearing ratty old maternity leggings the whole time.

*tied not tired

@WutheringShites86 I feel you, dd is cutting her first tooth so it's been a rough day, I'm already in bed with her 😂 I swear bedtime just gets earlier and earlier

@gmailconfusion2 try not to worry, I know it's quite dispiriting but my weight fluctuates like mad at the moment, I've been up and down by 6 pounds just in the last two weeks so you may be the same. Well done for keeping up with the running! I've upped my walks but sadly I don't think dawdling along with the pram is going to get me those Buns of steel...

@Nowisthemonthofmaying I had been worried previously about what a night owl DD is but now I'm quite grateful! I can't face being confined to the bedroom before 8PM. Bedtime is between 8PM and 9PM at the moment depending on her last nap but it has been creeping forward.

Teething is rough, DD started ridiculously early at about 8 weeks or so and the two bottom front ones finally cut at about 15/16 weeks.

WutheringShites86 · 26/02/2021 21:22

Also enjoying slight period pains over here which feels like a bit of a piss take from mother nature when DD is still feeding every 2-2.5 hours in the day!Angry

gmailconfusion2 · 27/02/2021 17:41

@Nowisthemonthofmaying the walks may not help with the weight but they definetly help with the sanity. We did a 5km walk today in a carrier, i had planned to go to rowhedge but decided i actually needed a wee so shortened it by three km. Heres hoping its just fluctuations.

8months and no teeth here, but chewing everything and so dribbly. We were up every two hours last night and nap refusing today.

@WutheringShites86 oh no just what you don't need! I keep wondering when mine will turn back up

WutheringShites86 · 01/03/2021 12:15

Weighed in this morning and I've lost a pound! Not a huge loss but its the first time I haven't just maintained in ages Grin

gmailconfusion2 · 01/03/2021 14:42

@wutheringshites86 well done! I didn't weigh myself today, I'll do it tomorrow and hope I'm not 75kg!

Once baby wakes we're going for a walk via the post office as I've managed to sell something on ebay and then go play pokemon for a bit to kill time, maybe take her to the cemetery so she can stare at all the trees! Should get me to at least 6km walk

WutheringShites86 · 01/03/2021 16:21

Thanks @gmailconfusion2. We're getting out for a good long walk most days too. Its very hilly where I live so pushing the pram around us a good calorie burner.

WutheringShites86 · 02/03/2021 20:04

Hi everyone, I've just come across a calculator for working out breastfeeding calories if anyone is interested www.thelactationnutritionist.com/post/how-many-calories-does-breastfeeding-burn-with-calorie-calculator

I couldn't find a way to account for breastfeeding on mfp so this was helpful

gmailconfusion2 · 02/03/2021 21:17

So 73.1kg this morning. Could be worse. Didn't manage a walk, have grazed but spent an hour on the phone to my grandma which is more important at the moment. Baby kept trying to eat my phone camera grandma though she was giving her kisses. Win win really

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 05/03/2021 15:20

@WutheringShites86 well done on the weight loss! Every little helps... I haven't dated weigh myself this week as I've eaten so much junk, I'm going to try and be good for a bit and weigh in next week. Will check out the breastfeeding calculator, I think maybe I need to start logging my food on mfp or somewhere too

@gmailconfusion2 well done on the long walks, and the weight! You're about 10kg less than me anyway Grin

Had my first session with the trainer on Thursday, it was really good (even if i felt sick for about two hours afterwards 😂) and all my muscles ache now. I've done yoga today and have set workouts for the rest of the week so hopefully I'll start to get some muscle tone back at some point. It's helping me stay disciplined about food as well as I don't want to undo all my hard work.

Morning all!

Sounds like you're getting your exercise mojo back @Nowisthemonthofmaying, that's great!

I succumbed to Friday takeaway temptation last night but it was a tandoori mixed grill so I think that was the lesser of the calorific evils on the menu hopefully! Well it was delicious anyway so no regrets Grin

Managed to be pretty good all week aside from that.

The breastfeeding calculator said I should be able to have an additional 400 cals a day on top of what mfp gives me and still lose weight so I'm testing that out this week. I hope it is right because that's so much more sustainable long term. Fingers crossed 🤞

WutheringShites86 · 09/03/2021 10:28

Another pound down this week! DD is teething again and last night's sleep was pitiful so hopefully I can resist the urge to sugar binge today.

How is everyone doing?

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 10/03/2021 08:44

Well done on the lost pound @WutheringShites86! I've lost a pound too which is great, I'm now below 13 stone for the first time since I got pregnant, pretty much. Only another three or so to go 😂

I've been having a crap week with building work, teething dd and grumpy dd so it's good to know my sugar intake hasn't done too much damage...

Grumpy dh, I meant to say 😂 although dd has been quite grumpy too

@Nowisthemonthofmaying well done to you too, we're heading in the right direction!

MrsP1989 · 21/03/2021 12:47

Can I join? I'm in a bit of conundrum with losing baby weight. I only need to lose a few pounds to not be overweight but want to lose just over a stone to be back to prebaby weight and to feel more like myself. It's hard though because I had a spell of anorexia when I was younger and I find it difficult to count calories without slipping into old habits and I obviously don't want to find myself down that road again (and don't want to pass it on to my daughter - which historically is what's happened in my family) but equally want to be healthy and happy in my body. My DH does all the cooking and has himself been losing lots of weight in lockdown so dinners generally are fine but it's getting through the day and evenings that's a struggle without reaching for sugary snacks. DD is my first and 4 months old and ebf, she's also a big girl being in 98th percentile for height and 91st for weight! I'm not sure if I'm really asking anything haha but would be great to have the solidarity of working through this with other people doing the same. Obviously lockdown doesn't help, we live in a terraced house with steps up to it on a busy a road too so I find it really hard to leave the house. I do a weekly walk and talk in the local park and try and do a weekly baby wearing dance class on zoom when I've got enough energy but I don't seem to be shifting any weight since getting to where I am (I think I've lost about a stone since baby was born just from breastfeeding). We are moving house to a more residential spot which will make it so much easier to go out but still waiting for a completion date and could be months. Sending lots of love to you all, we're all doing so well to be getting through all of this baby stuff with pandemic on top!

WutheringShites86 · 21/03/2021 13:36

Welcome @MrsP1989. We've all agreed on here that the sugar cravings are definitely ebf and sleep deprivation related so you're not alone there.

I don't have any experience of eating disorders personally but I have struggled with my weight my entire life and I hear where you're coming from about not wanting to pass bad habits on to your DD. My little girl is 7 month now and on two meals a day (still wanting milk every 2ish hours in the day though Shock) and it has helped me stay focused on eating better to set her a good example. I've always eaten well in terms of cooking from scratch and plenty fruit and veg but I have a big weakness for salty snacks and portion control.

I've lost another 3 pounds since I last posted, woo hoo! Have had a few days of DD not sleeping again though and that has definitely put a dent in my willpower this weekend. There have been chocolate muffins and sausage butties 😬. Back on track from tomorrow though!

MrsP1989 · 21/03/2021 16:39

@WutheringShites86 Thank you, oh that's so good to know it's not just me! I was bad for sweet stuff before but this is a new level!

Go you for getting closer to your goal! It's no mean feat when looking after little ones as well! That's it, one day at a time, celebrating the good days and chalking of the bad ones! X

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 21/03/2021 19:05

Welcome @MrsP1989!

And well done @WutheringShites86!

I haven't lost anything this week but haven't gained anything either which is a win considering how much crap I've eaten 😂

Ah well, tomorrow is another day, back on the wagon again...
