Losing baby weight during lockdown

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 13/01/2021 09:43

Just looking for some help really! I just feel really lost with motivation and knowing what I should be doing.

So my situation - about 3.5 stone overweight, 5 month old baby, ebf. Currently taking the baby for a walk every day and going for a (very short!) run three times a week.

I know the key is diet really but I'm just SO hungry all the time and seem to have developed a sugar addiction to boot. My dp has lost loads of weight during lockdown as he's very strict at low-carbing but I'm vegetarian and don't like to eat a lot of dairy so if I restrict carbs what the hell do I eat? And I really need to cut out the evening biscuits/chocolate but I'm just so fed up at the moment with January and lockdown and being stuck at home with the baby that it's the only thing I have to look forward to or that feels like a treat. How do I kick the habit? I never used to eat so much junk and I don't buy chocolate for myself but we have a massive stash in the house left over from Christmas/birthday presents etc.

Any advice welcome! I know what I should do theoretically but everything is just so shit at the moment it's difficult just getting out of bed in the morning. But I really want to be back in my nice clothes this summer instead of wearing ratty old maternity leggings the whole time.

@gmailconfusion2 wow that must have burnt some serious calories!

At least the cashew nuts have some nutritional value @Nowisthemonthofmaying Grin

Sobloodyexhausted · 29/01/2021 19:44

Please add me - I empathise with so much of the above I’m ebf’ing a 6 month old and introduced solids about 2 weeks ago (she’s probably only eating about 2 spoons a day rest is going everywhere!). I haven’t weighed myself for a few months but I think I have about 3 stone to lose. Before pregnancy I did intermittent fasting and ran every other day up till 6months. Now I’m right back at the start with couch to 5k and finding running with the buggy a big challenge. Intermittent fasting is obvs out for now but I need to do something to stop mainlining the crap I’m currently consuming. Very happy to have found my people!

Welcome @LH1987 and @Sobloodyexhausted (can empathise with that user name!)

Marmite cashews are soooo good but unfortunately it's impossible to stop until you've eaten the whole packet...

Went for a run this morning so I'm feeling very pleased with myself, and I've also lost 3lb! Go me! Keeping away from the sugar & snacks (or trying to) is definitely working. Unfortunately the baker didn't have part of our order today so he gave us some free cookies instead which I have already eaten Blush

@gmailconfusion2 well done on the car pushing!

Well done on your loss @Nowisthemonthofmaying that's fantastic!

Still maintaining here but I'm going to restart on lower cals on Monday. Fingers crossed DD helps me out with the sleep situation.

Welcome new posters!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/01/2021 11:51

Feeling so fat today- there is no way to lose weight when there is nothing to do!!!!
If I ate the calories I burn in a day to stay the same weight I’d eat an apple a day!

LH1987 · 30/01/2021 15:02

One pair of my maternity leggings now has a hole in it, that only leaves me with two. If I buy more now, 8 months post baby, I have really given up!

gmailconfusion2 · 31/01/2021 10:17

@nowisthemonthofmaying well done!

@LH1987 oh no! More motivation I guess

I weighed myself this morning, I am now back at what I weighed in November which is a bit gutting but at least its down from 74kg.

71.8kg today, Hips at 40 inches then baby decided she wouldn't wait any more

WutheringShites86 · 01/02/2021 11:28

I'm getting back on the wagon from today. I've been maintaining for a couple of weeks but back to aiming for a 1lbs loss per week now.

Got a big shop delivered yesterday with meals planned for the week, healthy chicken tagine in the slow cooker and planning a long walk this afternoon for baby's nap.

Fingers crossed she actually sleeps today, yesterday she slept a grand total of 50mins between 9am and bedtime 😔. So demoralising that after weeks of good naps and shit night sleep that as soon as the nights have gotten marginally better her naps took a day off!

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 02/02/2021 16:12

@WutheringShites86 I feel your pain with naps, ours are all over the place at the moment!

Treated myself a bit too much at the weekend I think, but being good again now. Trying to keep the carbs down this week to see how much of a difference that makes.

What was that deleted message about, did anyone see it?

I think it was probably some diet marketing stuff

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 21/02/2021 20:39

How's everyone getting on?

I am totally failing on the diet front and trying to find a personal trainer to work with online as I think the only way I'm going to get exercising properly is with someone shouting at me...

WutheringShites86 · 21/02/2021 21:39

Hey @Nowisthemonthofmaying.Good days and bad days seem to be keeping me at the same weight which of course is better than gaining but I need to start being stricter again.

I have still been logging on mfp and exercising but I'm just giving in to temptation too much when the sleep deprivation hits hard.

So in summary, I've been going round in circles Confused

gmailconfusion2 · 22/02/2021 12:53

Me too!

I've decided I'm going to try going to bed earlier and get most of my sleep when she has her long stretch and see if that helps...

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 23/02/2021 07:59

I'm co-sleeping so pretty much sleep as much as the baby! Including an afternoon nap which is the only thing getting me through the day at the moment. I would love to try and claw a bit of my evenings back but not really sure of the best way to go about it.

Speaking to a trainer recommended by a friend tomorrow, I really hope she can help me out...

Went to fill up the car at the weekend and it was one of those M&S garages - first time I'd been in a shop in about 2 months so I got really carried away on the junk food. I just can't seem to stick to anything at the moment!

We had a two hour nap today, I wasosong patience as she had been awake 12ish til three last night crying if I tried to put her down and bedsharing leaves me in pain as I end up with DH and a pillow in my back, her in my armpit and no room. She was just lying there staring at me for three hours

spaceghetto · 23/02/2021 21:54

My ds was 2 before I started shifting the weight so well done! Bf made me so hungry all the time and made me tired so I was always wanting sugar. I started slowly, snacks only at night time and then reduced the bowl size. I have to snack, it brings me so much joy! So i've taken up running, 5k every other day. I've lost 3 stone in about 8 months.

Following as baby now 9 months and still not shifting past the initial weight loss despite increased attempts

I’m doing c25k and about half way through

gmailconfusion2 · 24/02/2021 10:48

@onedropbeat and @spaceghetto I got to week four and then it snowed and I havent had motivation since. Must start again!

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 24/02/2021 20:26

I started running but the breastfeeding hormones are knackering my joints so I'm restricted to once a week at the moment which is not going to get me very slim in a hurry!

On the plus side I spoke to a PT tonight who seems really nice, going to start sessions with her next week. Hopefully regular exercise will give me the boost I need to be a bit more mindful about my eating - today I had chocolate for breakfast and ice cream for dinner 🙈

WutheringShites86 · 24/02/2021 20:37

I've had the best day with calorie intake today for a long time and did 30mins on my exercise bike so ending the day with about a 700 cal deficit according to mfp. No coincidence that last night was DDs personal best ever in terms of sleep and therefore the single best night of sleep I've had since she was born! We'll see what tonight brings...

@Nowisthemonthofmaying hope the PT sessions give you some focus and motivation

gmailconfusion2 · 26/02/2021 18:13

I weighed myself today. 75.4kg. I have successfully put on 3.5kg and am heavier than when i started. FML.

Sleep really is a killer. Went for a run today and my legging kept falling down too. Definitely flashed one car.

WutheringShites86 · 26/02/2021 18:42

Don't be too hard in yourself @gmailconfusion2 its bloody hard!

The only way I'm getting any decent sleep is by cosleeping which also keeps me out of the range of the kitchen in the evening but it's a bit miserable being tired to an early bedtime.
