I’ve lost 30lbs and nobody has noticed!

I’m not even upset really, more intrigued as to when people might say something. I’ve gone from BMI 36 to 30 so still lots to lose to be healthy weight but I’ve moved from obese to “just” overweight and dropped two dress sizes.

Literally one person has commented - a woman at work. DH hasn’t said anything, he must have noticed though!

Has anyone else had this? Yes

I would never comment on someone's weight and would hate it if someone commented on mine, whether I have put it on or lost it.

I am sure people have noticed but are too polite to make comments on your body.

DisgruntledPelican · 05/01/2021 11:51

Well done on making changes and getting healthier.

I would never, ever make personal remarks about someone’s appearance or weight loss, no matter how well I knew them, unless they brought it up in conversation. Notwithstanding that not all weight loss is welcome, i do not want to add to the narrative that weight loss is something for women to aspire to and that passing comment on people’s appearance is appropriate or necessary...

reprehensibleme · 05/01/2021 11:55

Yes, I had this, but I'm really tall and no-one really noticed until I'd lost about 3stone.

Congratulations on the loss - I bet you feel better in yourself, it makes such a difference to movement, clothes etc.

I learnt my lesson the hard way, I have a friend who has always been morbidly obese, known him 20yrs, hadn’t seen him for a while and he looked fab, had lost loads of weight, looked a healthy Bmi, i said you look really well, to which his response was, I don’t feel it, I’ve got leaukemia...awkward and insensitive of me, so I wouldn’t comment on weight loss now since that incident unless the person brought the subject up first or made it known they were actively trying to lose weight.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/02/2021 11:34

It's not the weight mention what's a problem. It's the comment.
"Have you lost weight?" Is a perfect opener. Then you just go with what they say and do either "aw great job" or "oh, that sucks, anything I can do?".
Kind of the best of all worlds. Makes people who worked hard feel like people are seeing it and it's bit of extra motivation tbh, and it's a safe starter if something is wrong.

After watching my weight yo-yo for the past 30 yrs, dh never instigates a conversation on my weight. He waits (!) until I mention it. He accepts that actually his opinion is by-the-by, it's how I feel that matters. If I'm happy and I express some satisfaction that eg I'm 'back in the 11s' or really enjoying these Fast800 recipes, then he will agree, congratulate or just a simple 'I'm glad you're feeling better about yourself'.
He has also learned that too much going on about it results in a loss of motivation for me. He has learned that I hate him joining in with my exercise regime or denying himself a biscuit in case it offends me.
Of course, if I drifted up into the danger zone weight wise I hope he would gently express his fears about my health (as I do to him as he is very slim and has a BMI at the very bottom of the healthy range)but other than that, he never raises an eyebrow about my weight.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 04/02/2021 20:06

Great job! Have hit the 28lb lost mark myself today, but unluckily it hasnt changed my dress size any :(

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/02/2021 20:29

@AlmostAJillSandwich I feel that😂
Great job! It will take a bit probably. I was massive and I swear to god it took like 40 pounds at first to change half a size. Don't forget some clothes "grows" with the owner so it's hard to say exactly.

You are doing well so keep on it and it will soon be very visible😁

AcornAutumn · 08/02/2021 15:39

I'm really flummoxed at the last two posts

28lb and 40lb making no difference to dress size? Are you very tall?

OP, well done. That's a great achievement.

No. My clothes were stretchy? I have no idea. I was 150kg so it really doesn't make THAT big difference as if someone smaller lost it. I am 170cm? Or 169. I had 1 non stretchy dress and I couldn't properly fit. It took 30kg to fit normally. I am weird. My dh claims i didn't look 150kg, 130 at max🤔 He tries to be nice😂
AcornAutumn · 08/02/2021 23:30

Schrodinger, that's a big loss, impressive.

I sort of feel as if I don't look that much different but my jeans think I'm several different people 😂

Do you feel different?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 08/02/2021 23:56

thank you @AcornAutumn I am now at 39kg loss😁 with Christmas and illness I am just slightly behind the plan (about 2-3kg). Not in a hurry. It took 8 years to put on, I am fine with 18-20 months to take it off.

Bloody hell yes it feels different now!
There is a saying:
In 2 months you will feel it, in 4 months you will see it, in 6 months you will hear it if you are a man ha I agree with it. There was a point when my DH kept saying I look so different, but it just didn't register with me or most of my clothes for a long time.

I have days when i feel big(ger) again and then moments when my brain registers that my arm is slimmer for example. Interesting change from my brain claiming I am still size 12-14 for years😂 I now have mirrors in every room because that bastards don't lie😂

I also realised today why i broke 2 office chairs in home offfice withing monthsBlush Looks like 150kg is not good for that wheels on cheaper models😂 When I get under 100 I will celebrate with new one maybe😁

Hope @CarlottaValdez is still feeling proud and keeps going!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 08/02/2021 23:56

Sorry for rambling🙈

AcornAutumn · 09/02/2021 00:08

Not rambling at all

I only have space for one mirror here but in general, I pay no attention to how I look, which has advantages but this aspect, I have to sort.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/02/2021 08:53

Yeah! It's plus and minus in a same time not to be looking into a mirror. Unfortunately mirrors seem to be the only thing which confuses my brain out of denial🙄 I genuinely looked at my legs in trousers at 150kg live weight and my brain did "boom, look at that, very much size 14, lovely". I don't understand how it was doing it😂
