I heard someone on the radio talking about this earlier and said it's easy to follow, weight loss will happen and won't be put back on. Has anyone done it? I think you just eat 800 - 1000 calories a day. Is it possible for a vegetarian to do it?

Yes but it takes a bit of prep and planning.

Sounds like Dr Michael Mosley's Blood Sugar diet - there's a book. There are BSD threads on here. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3950031-blood-sugar-diet-and-fast800-thread-20

Thanks, I didn't catch the man's name but he had a wife called doctor Claire. I'm back working in an office so might be too much prep but thanks for the pointers.

I think it’s something starting on tv on Wednesday.

quiteathome · 03/08/2020 19:46

Need to do something

I have have chubbed up over the past month or two. Never been this chubby

Howcanwehelp · 03/08/2020 20:00

I've been 5:2 for over a year and got down to ten stone. Over lock down I relaxed and put on more pounds. I'm just looking for something to kick start me again. I'm doing 1:6 and finding it tough but lost a couple of pounds.

I eat 900 a day but uts not dropping off that fast.

Fallulah · 03/08/2020 20:21

It is the Michael Moseley programme that starts on Channel4 on Wednesday night. His argument is that rapid weight loss is a good idea for people who are severely obese, and the benefits of doing it outweigh the risks of rapid weight loss.

I’m doing WW at the moment and find it so easy to track things and it does work if I stick to it (21 lbs lost so far but I have 5 stone to lose). His way seems so complicated though - counting calories and only eating between certain hours. I think it also uses HIIT. And I’m scared of getting gallstones from losing weight fast... but equally I’m scared of dying from corona!

I will watch the programme on Wednesday and see how easy it looks.

Can't stand him or his smug wife they were constantly looking down on the contestants. Awful

Iloveyoutothefridgeandback · 06/08/2020 07:50

I have that blood sugar diet book. DH and I gave it a go. I didn't mind the drastic calorie cutting as I knew it was temporary and I was pleased to see the weight coming off, but the recipes in there are absolutely revolting. I would have preferred to just make my own recipes within the calorie restriction but I'm sure that is cheating. We ended up scrapping it because we couldn't stand any more of that disgusting food.

Greentea93 · 06/08/2020 08:50

Might give it a go as waist is 39inches 🐷

Shedtheload · 06/08/2020 08:59

I watched it. I don't think there's a need to drop the calories quite as low as 800. They could go into ketosis eating low carb but as much as they want until they feel full. Going into ketosis will then reduce their appetite and they will naturally eat smaller portions. I am not a fan of low carb myself but I appreciate that it works for many, especially those with diabetes.

I think if you don't have diabetes, you can follow the principles but make sure you eat enough so that you aren't hungry (and when you're eating that sort of diet, it's actually fat rather than protein that is your major source of energy and satiety).

Fallulah · 06/08/2020 09:10

We watched it and we measured our waists - mine is the same as my other half’s but he is almost a foot taller than me! So we both have work to do but me more so!

Decided to stick with weightwatchers because I know I will not stick to something so restrictive, but will look at dramatically reducing the carbs (don’t really eat potato so for me that’s my morning toast and we quite like pasta). Also took on the advice about half the plate being greens/salad. I’ve ordered their 800cal cookbook to see if there’s anything inspiring in there - my OH says I’m a sucker and the whole programme is just marketing for their book!

I’ve been dieting for the past 6 weeks and have so far lost 1 stone 2lb. Am walking a lot more, doing couch to 5k and having around 1,200 calories a day. Is working all right for me at the moment

GisAFag · 06/08/2020 09:22

He was on This Morning yesterday. 800 calories and a lot of water. TV show also. Personally, I would be so hangry I'd end up in prison!

Smellybluecheese · 06/08/2020 11:54

I did this a while ago - I lost a lot of weight but it went straight back on. I'm now losing again more slowly by calorie counting as I can't live without carbs (vegetarian). It's not sustainable for me.

quiteathome · 06/08/2020 14:04

I don't think his way will work for me. I am not severely obese at the moment. Just a bit overweight.

Going to look at 5:2 or the other one where you can only eat 8 hours a day
