Dress size v BMI

Purely out of curiosity, what dress size are you or do you think you will be when you're at the top of your healthy BMI range? (And middle and bottom if you know).
I'm 5'8"
BMI 25 = size 12/14
BMI 22 -= size 8
BMI 19 = size 4 (I'm guessing - never gonna happen!)

I'm 6ft tall and a size 16-18. BMI is 30 which makes me technically obese but I don't look it.

With a BMI of 25 I would probably be 14-16. Would still have a big bum, but this would be healthy for me. Smile

BMI of 20 I'd probably be a size 12 which would be extremely skinny for me and that will never happen and is not something I want in any way.

Bobbybobbins · 01/08/2020 07:21

I'm 41, 5'5 and 9.5 stone (half a stone heavier than I'd like be)

BMI is 22 - size 10/12 depending on shop

When my BMI was 19 when I started my job at 24 and had to have a medical, I was an 8/10.

Lockdownseperation · 01/08/2020 07:22

Clothes sizing is very inconsistent. I’ve tried a size 14 and it was too big and didn’t look great. I then immediately tried on another size 14 dress in the same shop and I couldn’t get it on!

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 01/08/2020 07:22

5 foot 6. I have a BMI of about 23.5. Am in a size 14 but they are all looking a bit loose on me. Could probably fit into a 12 but hate things being even slightly tight. At BMI 25 I was a 14.

By BMI 22.5 I expect to be comfortably in a 12.

BMI 21.5 then 12s looking a bit big.

DaffodilThatch · 01/08/2020 07:25

I'm 5'6 BMI 21.5 and size 12, sometimes 14 after having kids. Was the same weight before kids but was more 10-12. I find it frustrating that I've lost the weight but am still bigger! My tummy is definitely is. I guess it's because I have less muscle mass now.

BullshitVivienne · 01/08/2020 07:25

@Looneytune253

Lol my body is weird. My bmi is 35 and I'm size 14/16. In 5'7
I wasn't dissimilar to you size wise before I started losing weight, and my clothes were size 20. I am shocked anyone with a category 2 obese BMI can fit into size 14 clothes.
Fressia123 · 01/08/2020 07:25

BMI 27 - size 8
BMI 25 - size 6
BMI 22- size 4

monkeytennis97 · 01/08/2020 07:27

5'5'
BMI 32
Size 16/18

NotGenerationAlpha · 01/08/2020 07:32

Sizing varies a lot though. I’m 45 BMI 19 and size 8 top and size 10 bottom. However I don’t fit anything from next or M&S. They are all too big. I buy from topshop, H&M, uniqlo etc.

Rayna37 · 01/08/2020 07:38

5'3"
25- into size 14 (10 stone)
22- 10-12 (9 stone)
21- solid 10 (8 1/2 stone)

Inaquandry19 · 01/08/2020 07:41

5ft 8

Bmi 25 14-16 top 10 bottoms
Bmi 22 12-14 top 6 to 8 bottoms
I am inverted triangle shape which clothes do not seem to be designed for.

RedCatBlueCat · 01/08/2020 07:42

BMI 30. 5'7. Size 14 - just edging into a 16.
Last time I was BMI 25 I was a 12. Hoping to get back here.
At my slimmest (and people asking if i was ill) i was BMI 22 and a 10.

Inaquandry19 · 01/08/2020 07:43

Current bmi is 29

I am 16 to 18 top, 12 bottoms

Lobsterquadrille2 · 01/08/2020 07:44

I'm 5 foot 8, BMI 19 and only below a size 8 in Next. I have quite wide hips and don't think I'd ever be a smaller size.

RowboatsinDisguise · 01/08/2020 07:47

5’6
BMI 20 or below - 6
BMI 21-23 - 8
BMI 23-24.5 - 10
BMI 25-26 - 12

I’m very active and muscular if that makes a difference. I usually sit comfortably on the 8-10 borderline.

Looneytune253 · 01/08/2020 11:47

@BullshitVivienne I know tell me about it, that's why I said my body is weird. I do have A LOT of muscle tho which is denser than fat. I'll try and find an unidentifiable photo but I'm defo not bigger than that

changenamez · 01/08/2020 11:52

BMI. 24
Weight 10 st
Wear size 14

userabcname · 01/08/2020 11:57

Current: BMI 27 size 14
Pre-baby: BMI 23 size 10-12
At thinnest: BMI 20 size 6-8
I'm 5'3

Looneytune253 · 01/08/2020 12:02

Just to add to my previous post. Dress size 14-16 5'7 but my BMI is 35. Seems unbelievable but it's true

itssquidstella · 01/08/2020 12:05

5'11", bmi 20.4, size 10 (8 in M&S/Next which go in for vanity sizing in a big way). At bmi 18 I'd probably still be a 10 tbh as I have wide hips and shoulders.

At bmi 25 I'd be a 12, maybe a 14 on the bottom.

Shedtheload · 01/08/2020 13:12

This photo is when my BMI was 32.9, ie in the middle of the obese range. I am also 5’7’’. I was a size 14 at the time although if I’m honest with myself it would probably have been a size 16 in tailored clothes but I lived in stretchy jeans (that were a size 12, lol). It’s only now that I’ve lost over 2 stone that I can see how big I was. I thought I looked pretty normal but I didn’t. My BMI is 27 now and I want to lose another stone to bring it down to the top of the healthy range. My waist size is now 29 inches so I am an actual size 12, not just in my head. Once I lose the rest I think I will still be a 12 but possibly a 10 in vanity sizes, lol.

You look great! It must be the muscle thing.
OddestSock · 04/08/2020 17:50

I'm currently BMI 26 and a size 12. At 24.5, where I was last year, I was 10-12 (and happy with that!). When I had a BMI of 30, I was size 16.

Many years ago, when I suffered from very disordered eating, I had a BMI of 18 and was size 6 (and looked very, very gaunt).

Trying to get back to 10-12 again :)

goteam · 04/08/2020 18:10

@OddestSock same as me. BMI 26 but would love to lose a stone and fit more comfortably in size 10 or 12 rather than 12 or 14.

Shayisgreat · 04/08/2020 18:14

5'6 and BMI 24. Wear size 10.
